After Cosmo's safe trip down the super slides, he is back on a bounce cycle I was hoping he was done with riding the Rollercoaster, but at the same time, it was nice to see him have a nice blue streak. Hopefully, he has some residual effects today
He does! He was super sneaky last night - he ate all his overnight food by +4 so I put out some more when I headed to sleep. Seems he ate all of that too and DH gave him more at +7 So...he is all carbed up this am.
So you're understanding of the bounces and why they happen...whenever he sees the 'rare' low numbers his body is just responding to that perceived threat! Like whoa! WHAT is going on here! We haven't been this LOW in days!!! Time to go and get some extra goodies from the storage tank and try to bring things back to rights...only problem is - the storage tank is full of emergency rations of glycogen/sugar and the liver just goes crazy and dumps a load into his blood stream...makes the BG look kinda awful; but the rest of him says...ah...back to 'normal'.
Unfortunately we know that's not normal..but his body has become accustomed to those higher levels and for Cosmo, well as they say, that is his new normal.
So you're doing right by him. Just keep testing...let's hope he learns that this is not a dangerous situation and look plenty more supplies (food) are coming in all the time...maybe we don't all have to get so excited next time...but it takes time for them to learn and level off. And the food he has to eat for his megacolon doesn't help that situation ... so just pace it out...and you'll get there...just going to take time to learn what level of insulin is going to be needed to get him balanced with the mega-colon food he's eating.
Looks like you had a lovely day for a hike!! Make the best of it...someday you'll be stuck at home monitoring those low numbers on your boy
Depending what time you did your hike, I might have been on the water side of that. Always good to use the opportunity to do something for yourself when you can.
Not sure if he will slide or surf tonight. I'll set an alarm to grab a +5 or +6 and see which way he would like to go.
I put down some more food and he ate about 1/4 of it.
