Just a tad higher this morning, so Trix did get a follow-up pokey, just to be sure Ms P was feeling the luv (of fuds, that is!), and sure enough, Ms P headed off to the lagoon! Trix has been quite the little glutton this morning...so much so that I might not do the "assist feed for extra calories" before work. She seems to be putting in enough calories on her own so far today.
I've learned yet a couple more new things with Trix: One is that if I assist feed with a food she's not too fond of, she's not a happy camper, but if I use one she likes, she is A-OK with the syringe. I know that's the opposite of what is usually recommended, since they can develop an aversion to the fuds that is used for assist feeding, but that's not the case with Trix. I use Purina One Chicken Pate for her assist feeding, and she also happily eats it from a plate. For a few days I was trying to use Wild Callings Cabin Fever because I know it's higher in calories and lower in phosphorous, but she doesn't like that food from a plate - or from a syringe. Lesson learned!
For awhile, I was also feeding her exclusively one food until she got sick of it, then would switch to the other....and I would toggle back and forth between the two, in hopes of avoiding finickiness. I recently learned, though, that If I offer her one food and she eats a fair amount of it, and then immediately offer the other food, she'll also eat a fair amount of that one - even though she just filled her belly pretty well with food #1! So, more calories are going in that way, too.
Fortunately, seeing Trix pack away the fuds has helped fade the memory of our vetty's unusual gloomy mood from last weekend.
I briefly spoke with my Mom yesterday morning and she said my Dad is starting to feel better, and is even doing some stuff to get active again - like replacing the innards of the toilet, and getting back to going to morning mass. Hopefully the worst of Chemo Round 1 is over. I didn't call last night, just to give them a breather from me (and since my Mom called me in the morning). I'm really trying my best to helicopter from a distance (BTW, Dyana...loved that picture inTrix's condo yesterday...that is SO me!). Follow up is this Friday; Chemo Round 2 is next Tuesday.
Thinking of my LL family...prayers going out for everyone. Have a great day, LL!
