Well, I tried to do the "get up, poke, shoot, go back to bed; get up, poke, go back to bed, etc." but I don't think it worked very well. Still tired. Very tired. In fact, I think the bags under my eyes are even tired. hmph! :YMSIGH: Shasta snuggled a little bit last night, but it was an under-the-covers snuggle, which didn't last long...too suffocating under the covers!

Well, her appy was ok this morning...always made better by momma holding the bowl for her! Of course, there's her lovely dive between +1 & +2. I imagine her numbers will start up at +5, but I'll wait until I see her numbers go up before I leave to run errands (make up for the pathetic errands from yesterday.)

Hope all the kitties and beans are having a lovely Labor Day (or just a lovely Monday)! <- that's a rare thing for me to write...a lovely Monday! Must be a Monday holiday for me!!!

Wow, great slide today for Shasta. Deborah, no worries, as it is very hard to set the alarm, get up while still in a zombie state and do the poke. You're doing great with her.

Re: 9/3 Shasta PMPS=268; +1=299; +2=153; +3=96

Thank you, Leslie! My errands went well. I spent way too much money at Hobby Lobby on glass knobs/drawer pulls!  On top of it all, I have gotten ABSOLUTELY NOTHING done this 3 day weekend! ohmygod_smile Oh well!

I have a question good people of LL...what should I be doing regarding food/carb, etc.? She was on 8% this weekend at main meals and she did well, but she still had her massive drop at +2. So, tonight, I tried 10%...no better. Drop of 150 points between +1 and +2...as usual! Any thoughts?! Thank you, in advance!

no advice from me I'm afraid, I have the king of the divers and still haven't figured out what works but am watching replies to you to see if I can get any insights as well! NIce day for Shasta!!

Re: 9/3 Shasta PMPS=268; +1=299; +2=153; +3=96

Hey, Deborah,

No advice on the diet; we stick with less than 6% and take the reductions as needed.

Your 3-day weekend sounds as productive as mine!

Shasta - Looking good! Keep up the good work!!!

Have a great night -

Re: 9/3 Shasta PMPS=268; +1=299; +2=153; +3=96

We have two tricks we use with Zener. We use the Greenies Pill Pockets (duck and pea doesn't have sugar but does have carbs, the other flavors have sugar so avoid those). Unfortunately they have stopped making the feline version but the canine version is the same but has a smoked flavor, which he likes. I figure 1 dog one is equivalent to 8 cat ones. He gets a zobaline pill every day. So when we see a big drop at +1 or +2, we would give him the zobaline broken up into 4 pieces, each one wrapped in 1/4 of a pill pocket. That would usually slow things down. If he's still dropping at the next test, we would give him another 1/2 or whole pill pocket.

When he's dropping like a rock and closing in on 50, or below 50, we give him a treat, a SeaFlex (Sea Cucumber Formula with Sea Chondroitin and Glucosamine). Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 to slow him down. These are laced with honey. Pre-FD, he got 5 of these every afternoon at 4 pm. Supposedly they were for his joints (as recommended by a previous clueless vet) but I think they contributed to his diabetes since they have much more honey than glucosamine.

He's still a bouncy boy, but this strategy seems to help. He's not been on the red floor since June (anti-jinx) and he's not on the pink floor all that much. His numbers were not great about a couple of weeks ago because we were giving him ProPlan Chicken Entree when his appy wasn't very good and those carbs apparently shoot up his BG. The past week I've given him cyprohexadine instead and he will eat FF Chicken Florentine and his numbers have improved.

Deborah

The SS shows you started with 8% at PS and then switched to lower carb at +1 and +2. Why not try using the 8% for those feedings, too? It might leave her a little higher but should slow the drop....we hope.

I'm going to have dinner and then I'll look at it a little more, ok?

Re: 9/3 Shasta PMPS=268; +1=299; +2=153; +3=96; +4=75

Nice green Shasta! Of course she picks a school night to drop. As if you weren't tired enough. I think they conspire against us sometimes. Have a great night Deborah!

Re: 9/3 Shasta PMPS=268; +1=299; +2=153; +3=96; +4=75

Thanks Liz. Thanks Marje.

I mean, don't get me wrong...I like her in the blues and greens, but I understand that I should be trying to "minimize" her curve so that there aren't such big drops, but dangit, she drops like a boulder at +2...almost every time! It's like she really wants to be in the mid-100's, but somehow got too high and now has to hurry up and come back down. And that's with me still feeding her the mid-carb at +1. She usually eats half of her breffis/dinner at shot time and then finishes it at +1. Sometimes she won't finish all of it until I add in some "other" food like her 4% or 5%, but she does finish it.

Other then Saturday morning when she had a real 12 hour curve, she seems to get to her nadir around +4 or +5 and then starts shooting up faster than Superman! That's the only reason I don't keep feeding her more of the mid-carb. hmph! I will probably try adding some slivers of 10% to her early snacks tomorrow while I'm at work. Should be interesting to see how high she goes while I'm gone. :YMSIGH:

Re: 9/3 Shasta PMPS=268; +1=299; +2=153; +3=96; +4=75

Thanks Rhiannon and Melissa! I'm sure by her +5 (in 5 minutes), she'll be headed up and I can be going to bed. I even have my work sitting next to me, like I was going to grade papers or something! She always keeps me guessing. Hopefully, she'll behave herself tomorrow while I'm at school. Silly child!

Re: 9/3 Shasta PMPS=268; +1=299; +2=153; +3=96; +4=75

Deborah

I looked at her SS. Food management of the curve is trial and error. Now that I've looked at the SS longer, I wonder if feeding her the 8 or 10% at PS is giving her a higher food spike at +1 to dive from. I wonder if you fed 4% at PS so she didn't get as much food spike, and then at +1, feed her the 8-10% to catch the drop at +2. That's one thing I wonder.....

The other thing to try is to really frontload so that the majority of the food that is the 8-10% is fed at PS and +1.

I used to get frustrated when I would hear that it was just trial and error but it is...this is definitely a situation where ECID. And food trials take time to see the results so if you try one, it's not an overnight fix.

Well, there's her +5...97. She's on the rise and I'm off to bed. I have a snack left out for her and will see if I can get her to eat a little before crawling into bed, but I do not worry about her dipping any lower. Thank you all for visiting today. Sorry I didn't get to make night rounds to everyone's condos. Got caught up on YouTube looking for videos for my classes.

Hope everyone has a great night with lots of kitty snuggles and a great Tuesday! Good night!
