I took her in at 9 because Dr. B did not have any appts until late today so another vet saw her. She said she did not feel it was pancreatitis because Gracie has absolutely no abdominal pain (or any pain) and she thought if she had pancreatitis, her BG would be much higher. She felt that it was likely that either Gracie ate something that didn't agree with her (e.g. bug) or she has an intestinal bacteria or virus. She could not get any blood from Gracie; while we were there, Dr. B's 11 a.m. appt cancelled so Dr. R. asked us to bring Gracie back so Dr. B could also do the NRT testing on her and try and localize the problem. I took in a stool sample that I got this morning because it was abnormal in appearance AND she just had a poo last night (which was totally normal) and she usually only goes once a day. Dr. R thought the stool looked a little pale and soft because whatever is bothering Gracie's gut caused the poo to not sit as long in the intestine as it normally would.
I got her home and she ate a little 4% food. She has not vomited since I gave the cerenia (touch wood). Right before we left to go back to the vet, she was at 51 and she wouldn't eat so I syringe fed her. Dr. B did an X-ray and Gracie has a lot of gas in her intestines. She tested weak in the stomach, and small/large intestines but her liver, gall bladder, pancreas (and everything else) tested normal. However, she also tested for parasites through NRT. She cannot take metronidazole so Dr. B but her on Albon (pill form). The xrays will go to the radiologist just for a second eye. She also did bloodwork and that will, hopefully, be back today. She said to give her cerenia for two more days and only give the ondansetron if Gracie acts nauseous. Recheck in 10 days
She's a little quiet but only a tad. She ate really, really well on her own when I got her home. Here she is in her carrier at the vet (that little paw thingy is her diabetes tag).
As you all know, Gus has not been eating well either and has had some soft stools and Tobey has had kind of soft poo on and off lately. We took Gus with us and his kidneys, which tested at a 10 (which is the best and most strongest) just a couple weeks ago were a 0 today and his stomach and intestines also tested very weak AND tested for the same parasite that Gracie did. So he is on metronidazole and so is Tobey now. Tobey had coccidia as a kitten and we thought it was resolved but Dr. B said he could be a carrier and it is odd (read coincidental) that all three cats have something going on. She also did bloodwork on Gussie and we are very, very concerned that the results are not going to be good.
We are sending our prayers a million times over for Barb and Checkers and sending Checks healing vines and comfort vines. We are saddened by the news and hope he and Barb will have many high quality days together.
Thank you all again. You are the best. Now I'm going to spend some time with LBG and also Tobey because he has had no attention this morning at all.
