Linda for Weezer

Member Since 2011
Yesterday Weezer spent the day at the vet for the change to Lantus. Here is what the day looked like:
+11 BG taken at home 233
AMPS 434 - 1.5 U Lantus
+2 353
+4 353
+6 264
+8 284
+10 359
PMPS 273 taken at home
+5 218
The vet stress is obvious, as is her relief at coming home! I wonder what they think when we leave them like that?!

So all is well in Weezer World this morning, back home where everything smells right and all of the beans think she is the center of the universe.

Re: 9/29 Weezer AMPS 269, day 2 of Lantus

I don't believe I have stopped by to welcome you. Isn't it amazing how much a vet visit can raise their BG? Tarragon is always 100 - 150 higher at the vet. In the beginning I was having them do the curves and the dose kept going up up up. When I started home testing, it was evident that he was way over dosed.

Glad you got Weezer home. Of course he is the center of the universe and the beans are the servants. Just as it should be. :-D

Have a wonderful day!

Re: 9/29 Weezer AMPS 269, day 2 of Lantus

Remember that with Lantus, unlike with Humulin N, you may not see much of a response until the insulin depot (aka "shed") is formed. This takes roughly 5 - 7 days. Lantus doesn't yank numbers down they way N does.

Please read over the stickies. N is very different than Lantus and one of the biggest adjustments is how you have to think about dosing and a long-acting insulin. Getting a first day curve at the vet is not usually very helpful given that this is a depot-type of medication. Also, you will be needing to get spot checks. Lantus dosing is not based on the pre-shot number -- it's based on nadir.

Re: 9/29 Weezer AMPS 269, day 2 of Lantus

Thanks Sienne. I figured the vet's curve wouldn't be as informative as the one I'll do this weekend. But I want to develop a good working relationship with this new vet who gave us the Lantus prescription. While I am away during the day Weezer will be under the very watchful eye of DH. He will get the mid-day readings. I don't expect to see much change while the shed builds, but I was amazed this morning when Weezer ate a reasonable amount and walked away with food left in her dish! That is pre-diabetes behavior for her!

Re: 9/29 Weezer AMPS 269, +6 269, +9 264, day 2 of Lantus

Linda and Weezer,
Welcome to Lantus Land if I hadn't already said that! Thank you for your visit yesterday when KT was skinny dipping. That was our first experience so scared ME a lot more than it bothered KT. John and Apollo are doing that quickstep today.

Day 1 down, Day 2 almost down into that 5-7 days. YIPEE!

Hugs!
