Good morning ~O) ~O) ~O) ~O)
Michael loves that stinky pink  . Hope he decides to change to blue
Will get a new vial this week. I have had this one almost 6mos. Might be losing potency.
Any thoughts on Sheba pate cat food :?: I couldn't find it in any of the food lists.
If some foods are really lc (1%) Does that affect the dose of Insulin :?:
Thanks,
Paula

Re: 9/29 Michaels amps 313

I used Sheba before switching to raw, still feed it to tommy cause the raw makes him constipated.

Re: 9/29 Michaels amps 313

Are you thinking of switching, the carbs are apparently only 1%. You may want to get some advise on if switching from friskies mix grill 12% down to Sheba 1% will make that big of a difference on insulin needs.

Re: 9/29 Michaels amps 313

Thanks Darin.
Your suggestion just raised a question. Should I be feeding all the same brand of low carb wet food. I'm not switching from friskies, still using it, but thought I would use another brand of lc food since M can't eat FF.(It upsets his tummy.)

Re: 9/29 Michaels amps 313 Need food advice

Well the mixed grill is 12%, 9% and under is what is considered lc. Maybe switch to friskies turkey and giblet pate that is 9% and keep the mixed grill for food intervention. Hopefully others will give their input.

Re: 9/29 Michaels amps 313 Need food advice

My first vial was toast at the 6 month mark as well. My second is about to expire but still going strong. I tried one of the new pens and either Max was bouncing or it is a bad pen. So expect a little wonkiness if my experience is usual.

Re: 9/29 Michaels amps 313 Need food advice

i suspect your insulin still has some potency, but it may not be 100%. I'm thinking that because he hasn't seen green numbers in a while, but it obviously moves the blood sugar some because he is getting blues.

You might want to get some new insulin. What a lot of people do is get the new insulin, try a couple of shots with it (same dose) and if the numbers continue to look the same, then they go back to the old insulin and finish it up.

If you try the new and the BGs drop down, then that is evidence that the old insulin wasn't working. In that case, you'd stick with the new insulin.

Is there a reason you're feeding 12% routinely? Most people go with somewhere around 4-5% all of the time unless they are trying to bring up BGs. Sometimes when people go to ultra-low carb, like 0-2%, it can increase the bouncing. Or at least it doesn't help it. Often bouncy cats seem to do a little better (smoothing out bounces) with some carbs (i'm thinking 3% and up or so). Just generalizing.

Re: 9/29 Michaels amps 313 +10 270Need food advice

I having been feeding all the friskies pate because I understood they were lc. I bought a couple of cans of sheba because it was pate. I understood that all pates are lc.

A +2 would be good tonight since Michael is clearing his bounce. If the plus 2 is less then the pmps, it could be an active cycle.
When you start feeding the Sheba it would be wise to keep an eye on his BG because of the carb difference.

Here is the food list. You will find the carb count in the C column under dry matter.

Thanks, Darin
The list should be most helpful.
