Well hello fellow LLanders. I am borrowing a condo this morning.

Just wanted to put an update on what is going on with Max. He has developed what we believe to be a UTI. Started 1 mil Clavamox bid on Friday 9/24/10. Yesterday I started a mini-curve on him and got a 145. Fed and retested in 2 hours and he was down to 111. Well this morning he gave me a 143. Unsure at this point if it is the infection, the Clavamox or Mr. P is needing some assistance again and we are done honeymooning. I am going to be doing lots of poking today to see what's going on here with his numbers. It's starting to look to me like we may be on our way to shooting again.

Edits have all just been subject line.

Oh Lynee, Sorry to hear this, Glad to see you, wish it was under different circumstances..
UTI raises BG sometimes a LOT--So, let's see what happens--Moonie says Hi to her friend Max!!
Hope your stay here is short..HUGS!

Re: 9/29 - Max AMBG 143

How many days of Clavamox did the vet give you? It may simply be the ABs haven't fully kicked in. More data will help you know what's up.

Re: 9/29 - Max AMBG 143

Hi Lynee...I am sorry to hear that max isn't feeling so well. It is so great that you took him right away to the vet and discovered the UTI.
Raja was on Clavamox for 2 weeks last month and this past week, her numbers were well into the 200s. Higher than Max's....I hope the Clavamox will knock that infection out of his system.. . Are you giving Fortiflora too?
Keep monitoring him...maybe once the ABs really do their job, his numbers will come down even further! :YMHUG:

Re: 9/29 - Max AMBG 143

Yes Pat I'm giving Fortiflora with the Clavamox. Just started it last night because I ran out and had to get some. He did have diarrhea within a day of starting the Clavamox so we gave him some pumpkin. I'm hoping that starting the Fortiflora last night will take the belly ache away and maybe that is having alot to do with the high numbers.

Re: 9/29 - Max AMBG 143 ~ +2 147

Heading the wrong way. I was sure hoping to see a drop in this number. When I went into the bedroom to do the next test on him, I opened the bedroom door to a pile of pukus on the floor. Had a hairball in one pile of the vomit and the other pile was just liquid. Not good considering he just got his Clavamox about an hour before so he may have thrown up all the medicine. Next test will be in 2 hours.

Re: 9/29 - Max AMBG 143 ~ +2 147 ~ +7 198

I am now offically beyond freaking out here. I cannot believe that I am seeing an almost yellow number with him OTJ. I don't even know what to say to this one. Can it really be te Clavamox causing this increase in his numbers? When he was tested an hour before his vet appointment on Friday, I got a number of 101. Since that vet appointment, he has continued to rise.

Hi Lynee
Nice to see you but sorry to see you open a condo for Max. I hope this is just a quick little visit so he can get back to his real condo in the Falls.
How old is your insulin? I know you have not needed it for a while so it might be outdated unless you have a new script.

I hope Max is feeling better soon.

Hey Miriam. I got his insulin back in February before he went OTJ. I still have 4 pens that haven't been touched yet. I already checked it and it's not cloudy and there are no floaters so I think we're still okay. I threw the one away that was poked before he went OTJ and the 4 that I have left have been refrigerated and haven't been touched at all.

Re: 9/29 - Max AMBG 143 ~ +2 147 ~ +5 198 ~ +7 108

Well Mr. P is still working even with all this going on. He is finally back down a nice pleasing number that I can live with. I am going to continue the curve today and probably do another one tomorrow just to see what's going on. Will be back in 2 hours with another number.

Re: 9/29 - Max AMBG 143 ~ +2 147 ~ +5 198 ~ +7 108

To be honest Lynee...you only got that one number...101 right? Unless you had done other tests on that day and the following couple of days, you wouldn't really know where he was, right? Maybe he had similar numbers to what he is seeing now....

He is still in the blues so just keep testing and see how it goes. I really REALLY don't want you to crack open a new pen....
(mine is already opened with Shadow so it wasn't that dramatic when I had to give Raja some now.)
I am wishing and hoping that this is just an effect of what is going on with him.

Did the vet say how long the Clavamox should be given?

Re: 9/29 - Max AMBG 143 ~ +2 147 ~ +5 198 ~ +7 108

Sounds like everything going on could be making his numbers higher - hairballs included.

A non-diabetic probably wouldn't start insulin with those numbers, but seeing as how he's honeymooning I guess you have to keep a close eye on him. Glad he came back down nicely!

He need some extra lovins while he's recovering, he's probably loving those testing treats.

9/29 - Max PMBG 125

Well I missed testing him before his dinner. It's been so long before I had to test before food that I completely forgot about it. Got going in my normal routine of feeding all the furries in the house that Max didn't get his check.

This PMBG number is 1 hour after dinner and 30 minutes after evening dose of Clav. He's already on the rise again tonight. Going to finish out curve tonight, at least to the highest point. Will start another curve tomorrow on opposite times as today.

WCR: He's somewhat playful. Was just throwing a bouncy ball down the hall and running after it. Is now meatloafed in the hallway. This is typical behavior as to what we'd been seeing that caused the vet visit. Only 4 full days of abx so I think we have some time to go yet.

Pat - I think you are right, The test that I did on him before he went to the vet was taken around 4:00 pm and based on what I'm seeing today, that is right around the time that he's showing me his lowest number of the day. So that does leave me thinking that had I tested him on a curve that day I probably would have seen exactly what I'm seeing now. Vet wanted to do one week of Clav and then call her to discuss his condition. She is also watching his ss closely from the office. I am thinking that we are going to have to go the full two weeks but her and I will talk about it on Friday when I call.

Nina - yes he's loving these extra treats but he's definitely not liking the pokes. He's used to getting poked about once a month or on a really off day. But by the third time today poking he quickly realized that this was gonna be a long day

Re: 9/29 - Max AMBG 143 ~ PMBG 125

oh, Lynee, I'm so sorry to see you here, but then again, glad to see you around! I'm thinking that it may just be the ab's and the uti that may be bringing those numbers up. It happened to Spot, you know. If it were me....and I've been there a few times now (Spot doesn't know if he wants to be on or off the juice it seems), just monitor for a little bit more, but by all means, don't wait to long before deciding to give some juice. Mr. P may need a little help. I'll be looking to see how Mr. Max is doing...

Continuing to drop from highest point today of 198. Will grab a few more checks tonight if he will allow it.

Thanks guys for all the advice today. I'm armed and ready to talk to the vet tomorrow when she calls about a little help for Mr. P while all this is going on. I do not want to see another day like today of almost yellow or even into the yellows. I may not repost tonight cuz bean is tired after all this pokusing today. Max and I are gonna go in the bedroom and watch some tv. Good night everybody and see y'all tomorrow.

almost forgot WCR: He's been a little more playful this evening. Was chasing Kodak around in circles between the living room and kitchen. Doin a little slidin on the kitchen rug, got his favorite jumbo tennis ball out of the dog's toy box and was rolling around on the floor with it in attack mode. Shortly afterwards he immediately laid down in front of the refrigerator where it's warm.

((((Lynee)))) I'm sorry you're going through this. It does look like Mr. P is working. Try your best to help it out with food - multiple small meals through out the day. If food is bringing him down, then keep the food coming! (not too much, of course, but divide his usual meals into even more portions). Some cats take up to 4 hours to come down after a snack, so keep testing and you'll start to fill in the picture.

Hi there Lynee and Max. It's nice to see you, but sorry you're back for a bit. I think Max just knows that all the cool cats have been coming back and he just wants to fit it.
