9/29 - Frosty - not eating, vomited this am. 2nd larger skin tear

yesterdays post

I think my title pretty much sums up the situation. I don’t know where that second tear came from, it looks like maybe he was grooming the area but I can’t imagine him grooming in this condition. Anyway I put the onesie back on him. I think his feeling poorly has nothing to do with it.

He threw up as soon as I put down his food, which confirms that he really is nauseous and probably has a pancreatitis flare, or whatever it is what happened 3 weeks ago. He didn’t wanna eat so I just have him buprenex and will try again later.

I don’t even know. Again, it seems he’s getting worse, as he was eating yesterday and seems more withdrawn today. It really sucks. I don’t know if he will get through this one.

Ugh. Poor Frosty and you. I know I sound like a broken record, but don't look ahead. Get through each hour and each day. A flare takes time to lessen.
I know. He won’t eat still so I’m gonna give him pain meds and take him outside. It’s sunny and warm and he loves being outside. We will sit on my chair swing and see if he likes it. Then we will try to feed him again later tonight. Whatever happens happens... we are not going back to the doctor again.

Does anyone know how long a cat can go without eating before it gets hepatic lipidosis? I hope he can make it through next week until next Saturday, but I also don’t want to cause him more pain and suffering.

Thanks guys for your support.

Have you given him anything for nausea or an appetite stimulant. Buddy has chronic pancreatitis, so I am always on stand by with these things. I am sure you know about all of these things.

After 24 hours or so, I make a slurry of AD and water or use baby food and syringe feed Grandpa a few times a day. It keeps calories in him until the flare subsides and he'll eat again.

AD is great, most of the time my sick kitty's will perk up for AD., or tuna. My cats like tuna water, low salt lunch meat or even chicken.

Yes, all the meds he’s on is in my signature.

We tried AD and the RC recovery last time, he won’t eat it. I can’t syringe feed him bc it’s torture for him, he hates it.

Have you seen this video on assist feeding? Maybe Frosty will not think it's torture forever and will let you little by little eventually. Also, have you tried the liver shake? Or bone broth?
Sending better appetite vines to Frosty.
I’ll try it but it looks pretty awful. Frosty hates it when i give him meds like that in the side of the mouth, he freaks out. I don’t think I can do this to him.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Sending love and hugs to both of you and healing wishes for Frosty. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Did you take him outside? How did it go?

:bighug::bighug::bighug: that liver shake is supposed to be really liked by the cat's that get it. I hope that helps. Sending you healing vines and soothing vines for you. Hang in there.

I did. He didn’t seem to like it that much. He seemed relaxed but wanted to jump off the swing where we sat so I let him. He would take a few steps and then stop and lay down. I wasn’t sure if he was trying to get under one of our cars? So I brought him over to the sunny area and he just laid there. I took some pictures. I’ll post the ones in which he didn’t look as sick. This really sucks. I wish I could make him feel better. :(

Sending more vines your way. It is just horrible to feel so helpless with them. :bighug: I gave Bubba the liver shake once during a GI upset, perhaps it was a P'titis flare, not sure, but he did perk up. And the bone broth is wonderful too.

He kind of looks like Buddy, so he is adorable.
Do you say you tried the liver shake, I have used this myself with my sick kitty's. We are all coming up with ideas, but if they don't work for you, that is fine, you don't have to use our ideas.

Dear (((Ana))), I hope that Frosty gets through this flair and has some good days so that you can both relax. I've never tried the liver shake, but I have recommended it and Sina (@HWright ) swears by it.
Rusty always ate something, but when his appetite was low I used to finger-feed him Beechnut Stage 1 Turkey baby food.
Lots of healing vines for Frosty tonight.

If only the power of all our love and prayers could be enough to make them all well...I wish all the time it could be like that.
Frosty is so precious (as are all the kitties on here) and I really hope he manages to pull through again. Sending vines, prayers and hugs :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Theresa and I think of Frosty everyday - the miracle kitteh, which his Angel Mom. We hope he gets better. Sometimes just a few steps forward are good. I hope he gets his appetite back.:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Grandpa hates it, too. He has scratched us pretty good and it's hard to know where to hold him that won't hurt him. But it's only a few days normally and it keeps him strong enough to get over a flare.

I have had luck putting him beside me in a big armchair with his butt backed into the corner. I kind of hug him against me and wrap a towel around his shoulders so I can use the ends to wipe what drips out of his mouth.

Have you tried the Stella & Chewy freeze dried food nuggets? When Grandpa won't eat anything else, he will often eat those. I put 5 or 6 in a cup of warm water for several minutes but I don't mash them together. I pick them out one by one and put in front of him. I think he sees them as a treat.

I love the pics, especially the one from behind his furry ears.

Ana,
Yes, the liver shake got Azalea through for many months, and my old Bo in the time before. I adapted it some for Azalea who didn’t like raw egg yolk but was fine with egg yolk powder and/or egg white powder in it instead. Also she preferred carrot juice instead of tomato juice but that was what worked for her. And when she was eating on her own, she’s go for a few days with it as an “appetizer” and between meals “snack”, then reject it being offered for a few days but eat her slurry anyway and then resume with it. It got so I was making small quantities at a time so that when I brought home new supply of liver (I used chicken or calf liver) I put it, it’s juices and spring or filtered water in a blender and then pour it in ice cube trays. And then put the frozen cubes in freezer baggies. Did the same thing for the carrot juice (froze it in ice cube trays). For mini batches of LS I used 2-3 cubes liver: 1 cube frozen juice, let those thaw together in fridge overnight and then mixed in blender with other ingredients when thawed.

Here’s the fdmb link to the LS recipe:

Plain Bone broth / meat broth as was suggested really does help too. And I think Ella also mentioned Beechnut turkey baby food. The simpler the food the better, at least that’s what I’ve found during crises.

Here’s a link to a way to make bone broth if you haven’t tried it before:

I was wondering if you’ve considered cbd oil or cbd powder for Frosty. Also SEB or MMR can help soothe gi tract too.

Sending heaps of hugs, ❤️ and vines for you and Frosty.

Edited to add: also wondering if Subq fluids and b12 injections a possibility. Subq can help flush kidneys flush toxins and add depleted electrolytes and b12 can help perk up appy, too.

Azalea did not like assist feeding when I tried it with me behind or if she was facing me but the syringe on the same side of mouth where she was eye-less. But on the side with vision, she was ok with smaller syringe as long as she and I faced each other and she could see what I was doing.
We developed a routine where she’d either be in my lap (me kinda slumped on a chair so that she could rest on my chest) or on the bed with my head and chest kinda elevated with pillows so thT shecould rest on my chest, with her head closest to mine (and also elevated). I used smaller oral syringes (3cc or 5cc) bc the larger ones freaked her out. I usually brought a dish (like those small Pyrex glass storage dishes), one of ls and one of her slurry. I drew up about 3cc of one or the other, usually the ls, and “plunged” about 1-2 cc at a time, giving her time to swallow and be ready for the next squirt. She was like a little baby bird being fed by mama. When she indicated she’d had enough ls (and sometimes all it took was a couple cc’s assist fed then she’d slip up the rest on her own or switch to the slurry). Sometimes I alternated between drawing up ls and slurry. Whatever the moment called for. Also, she lived assurance, particularly a gentle finger “pat” from her nose, up her forehead , and along to between the shoulder blades. And of course lots of mushy talk and cuddles. I noticed recently with civie Dancer that a healing pat or rub in sane way and particularly between shoulder blades seemed to inspire her to eat.

You’ll find what works for you both, whatever it is. Patience calm and even think and say, thereby assuring you both, to Frosty that you’re doing this together. I took lots of deep calming breaths with Azalea on my chest and that became part of our routines. You’ll find whatever calms you both and assures him that it’s ok.
