So first things - Fiona's u/s showed no growth of liver nodule or lymph nodes so surgery is on....however it was cancelled for today as the hospital had 2 major "traumas" that needed emergent surgery. I totally understood but was so glad to have the u/s news. I think that was the thing I was soooo nervous about this AM - that we would find that even surgery wasn't possible. So more nerves for Monday. But she continues to look great. EAting, purring, cleaning, and TALKING! I'm so glad she is home with me tonite. She loves to cuddle!
then became talk of Boris coming home. The IM Dr and the oncology Dr wanted to come up with a plan. He was eating, off IV fluids for more than 12 hours and looking pretty darn good. His BG's were in the high 300's - not his norm but lots of stress, prednisolone is now bid. He's always been kind of sensitive to the insulin - I feel and for the most part - o.5u is all he's ever really needed. Well they gave 1u this AM - ok - needs watching but he is high. So at 3:30pm I got to go home with my boy. We are an hour away and today got quite warm here - in the 80's - wierd for this time of year. I had the air conditioning on for him and Fiona all the way home. Got in house about 4:30pm. He wandered around abit, ate some sliced roast beef and then settled in one of his favorite beds. I was exhausted so sat to drink and read over his bill. All of a sudden he fell out of his bed and had a seizure. Again I did the stupid thing of putting karo in mouth with my finger and again I got bit bad. I don't care. It's a repeat of the one seizure he had last year which we thought was a hypo and one reason we are so careful about raising his dose even when he's hi. None of my neighbors were home to help. Our town vet is closed. So I called a good friend who is on the way to the vet. I grabbed Boris, his testing stuff and drove to her housevwhere she helped me test him (283) -then drove me back to the city. He was alert then. He got checked over again and Dr Herman and I talked. We decided it just might be better to leave him in one more nite. And no more 1u. We aren't sure it it really was a hypo or what but he's been getting 0.5u bid since being in hospital and now 1u. Usually we give between 0.25-0.5u. So the more I think - the more I hope that it was just too much insulin and now too with fluids off....All I know is I'm tired.
Tomorrow I will go get Boris again - friends are taking me. And call for some ABX for myself. My friend had some ampicillin so i at least started that (ya know us nurses ) Joe can't get off work - they are not empathetic at all to the situation.
Again you have all been so kind to us thru this long journey. We are sooo lucky to have so many of you thinking of our boy and our girl. It means the world to us.
