Squamee slept all day yesterday and seemed a little wobbly when walking. She had more of the eating problem than she has since put on steroids. This morning seemed a little better-I am keeping my fingers crossed. My work schedule this week means much less testing---I will do what I can. Trying to be extra careful about fur shots.

Not a good day. She slept a lot and had considerable trouble eating. I have to call the vet and ask him if he has anything else in his bag of tricks. The steroids are not supposed to wear off for another month or so. Damn.
 
Thanks, Joanna. I am not hopeful. NOne of the tests showed anything, and the vet thinks it is being caused by a brain tumor. To treat it would mean a CAT scan for diagnosis and then possible surgery. That would be a minimun of $5000, and we are not going that route. Leaves us with only palliative care. He was hoping the steroids would work for awhile (last time around it worked for a year) but that does not seem to be happening. It's a bummer.
 
wow, that is rough... have you considered a 2nd opinion? could be another vet has an idea of something simple that might help, or some good palliative options... just a thought :) hugs to you & Miss Squamee :YMHUG:
 
I took her last year to a big vet in NYC who found nothing. My current vet sent me to a dental specialist with whom he continued consulting after a tooth extraction did not help. That specialist recommended the CAT scan, and that would be about $1000. Even if we could manage that, they would be looking for some kind of cancer, and we are not willing to do chemo or major surgery, so there seems no point. Gator had suggested taking her to Cornell, but that is several hundred miles away, and since it seems we are most likely not willing to treat---it doesn't really make sense. It doesn't seem like there is much else to do.
 
Judy - you are a very good cat mom.

We're tying the gabapentin pain drug on F that Nancy also mentioned. I'll let you know if we end up with any great results with that. I just put it into google and one of the suggestions was "gabapentin abuse" - so this may effect a vet's willingness to Rx it?? LOL, when I asked our local vet here for buprenorphine he said "now you aren't going to take this yourself are you?" LOL I was kind of stunned. Like even if that was my master plan - to steal meds from my dying cat - that I would admit to that. ohmygod_smile
