Vines for the dosecrease. Wish I knew more about R, but I never used it with Polly. Others have had great success, though. Help will be on the way!

Down you go Hyde. Black is not becoming or slimming on cats! Either that or too much cheesecake at the party last night.

When you use R depends on the circumstances and the cat. Using it at the L (Lev or Lantus) preshot time is common. Sometimes I'll use it a little earlier if I can see Neko's starting to rise quickly or bounce at the end of the cycle. You do want to make sure the L nadir and R nadir don't correspond. The idea is to use R to either keep numbers from rising (keep it flat) or take them down a little bit lower. If you had used R at +10 during yesterday's day cycle (she was on the way up), it might have made the preshot lower. You want to avoid big drops due to R, cause that could just set off another bounce. So the first few times you use R it's good to test every hour for as long as the R lasts (typically 4 or a bit longer), so you get the idea of it's onset and nadir, which will help you figure out good times to give it.

Yuckers Hyde. Black is not a color for kitties! (ChrisFarley said I had to clarify this statement to say - unless it is natural of course!)

Hope a dosecrease helps!

Please listen to the requests to come down a few floors Hyde. Good luck with an increase or trying R.

what Wendy said! It's a quick acting insulin that is in and out in about 4 hours, although in cats with iaa it can last longer. R is used in addition to one of L insulins, not instead of them.

If you want to try it, pick up a bottle of either Humulin R or Novolin R (they are the same thing) at your pharmacy. For whatever reason they don't require a prescription. It's relatively cheap - my vial for punkin cost $35 and lasted for his whole life, then I passed it on to someone else. It isn't as delicate as the L insulins. You'll use the same syringes. When you have it, then we can take a look and find a time that one of the experienced R users will be able to stay with you for the following 4 hours. You'll start with a tiny dose, test every hour, then depending on what that does, decide what the next step is.

The goal with using R isn't to replace the L, just to bring down the blood sugar some so the L can do its job.

We can take it one step at a time. Go ahead and get the bottle of R if you want to try this and let me know.

As Wendy said, there are a couple of ways to use R. One is to stop the rise, say just as she passes 250 give a small dose to just hold her flat. Another is to give it with the shot to bring the #s down a bit so that when the Lantus begins to onset, she's at a slightly lower number.

You'd definitely need to be doing the trial when you can test hourly afterwards for at least 4 hours. You might want to choose a weekend, so that just in case she has more of a response than expected, you're home and able to care for her.

+10 yesterday's day cycle would've been a perfect time to try it. There will be other good opportunities.

YIKES! really?!? Well, check around and see if you can find it cheaper elsewhere. I'm sure it's gone up, but the last I heard I think someone said $60 something.

I've heard it's cheaper at Walmart. Like other insulins, it's cheaper in Canada, I paid $23. Worth calling around.

Hi Anne, I certainly hope you find a cheaper supplier, I pay about 33 euros so it's considerably cheaper than the Levemir. I do a 6am / 6pm shooting schedule too with Crystal and quite often give R at +10 before PMPS to catch her if she is rising. Good luck with doing your R trial, you will be in safe hands with Julie. Our first trial was a bit of a non event as Crystal didn't respond to such a low dose (typical) but ECID and a small drop for Hyde may be all that's needed. I would certainly recommend it's use, it's a very good tool to have in your fight with the acro. Will be keeping paws crossed for a good result for Hyde. :bighug:
