Recap:
AMPS 289
+2 307
+5 244
+8 294
PMSP 318
+2 320
+5 302

None of us enjoying these pinks after that exhilirating run of greens the other day. Hoping baby girl will get through this bounce today and come back
down. Considering that she did run green on this dose, how long do you wait for the bounce to clear before you decide if she needs a dosecrease? She's
been on 1u now since Saturday..so 7 cycles. I'm hoping this will be a good dose for her once she "debounces"

Have a wonderful day in LL or wherever you are and hope everyone has some good surfin' in store today.

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281

Yes...at first it was scary...now we want them BAAACCCKKKK   Looks like my girl needs liver boot camp :o

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281

I think a bounce can last up to 72 hours and it is hard to sit on your hands and wait for it to be over. I guess we're supposed to be patient. I hope Gracie comes down soon.

ps I looked at your profile last night - what a cute pic of Gracie!

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281

I too believe that a bounce can last up to 72 hours. sometimes, in the beginning, Mannie took a little longer. And yes - once one gets a taste of the greens we all want them back - everyday!

I hope Gracie has a great day! Back down you go!

Hey Gracie - you want to come on a road trip to NYC? We are headed there to visit Stu. Shall I pick you up, after I get Tess? ~~ Mannie

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281

Morning Marjorie. Hope Gracie clears the bounce quickly and shows you some more pretty numbers. Gracie - come on down cutie pie!

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281 +2 158 here we go!

Morning Marjorie - nice blues so far for Miss Gracie. Hope she's headed for the greens. Have a good day. You prolly need a nap, huh? Thanks for keeping me company last night.

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281 +2 158 here we go!

Thanks, Anne, Michelle, Ele, Kim, and Lisa for checking in with us. Ok...my nerves are a little on edge now...DH gone to physical therapy so I'm on my own so breathing deeply. Yes, Kim, I need a nappus today!!

Hope Muffin is better...will check in with your post shortly, Anne.

Hey Mannie...you are so handsome...Mamabean showed me your photo today..wowza. Of course, Tom is courting me, too. But I'd love to go see Stu..think they'll letus peak through a window at him??? I hope he gets his thyroid fixed and feels better~

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281 +2 158 +2.5 143 Recheck 1 hr?

YAY! bounce over. remember someone told you at first you get scared by the greens, then your not truly happy until you get one again
you and gracie are doing fantastic!
thank you so much for putting my boy's face where everyone can see and admire him.

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281 +2 158 +2.5 143 Recheck 1 hr?

Yup...on my own today...Mike is at the physical therapist so we'll see..I'm glad the bounce didn't last long. I could tell something was
up today because she actually PLAYED with Tobey...running and wrestling...for the first time since this started :!:

You're welcome (Tom's photo)..such a handsome guy and with our posts together..you can see them at the same time! So let me know when you're
ready to do his profile and we'll put a bigger picture on it! Hugs!

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281 +2 158 +2.5 143 Recheck 1 hr?

Hi Marjorie! IMHO - you should be ok to wait the hour. I would if it were Mannie. It looks like her drop is slowing, she may surf this for a bit. she's not dangerously low - just keep an eye on her, for now in an hour should be fine. Hey Gracie - surf OK?

Good luck!

Hey Gracie - I too hope they will let us peek at him through the window - they have bird feeders by the window too. Cool! See you soon! ~~ Mannie

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281 +2 158 +2.5 143

Thanks, Michelle. She didn't drop as fast as she did the other day and I DO want her to hang out in low blues or even high greens today and get used
to having insulin on board and her organs working like they should. I have her out on the kitty cage patio with me and so I'm watching her closely.

Thanks for being there!

WOW..is that what Stu said? Bird feeders by a vet's window??? Cool!!! It will be like a vacation for him. Gus said the people at the vet couldn't leave him alone...always loving on him...he was there five days. Hopefully Stu won't have to be there too long if he gets his treatment!

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281 +2 158 +2.5 143 +3.5 106

Trying to let her surf blues....but she fell a little faster this time....should I do 1/2 hour or one hour check? If she falls as much in another hour as she did the past, then she could be getting low so I'll probably go take a shower and recheck at +4....for my own sanity

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281 +2 158 +2.5 143 +3.5 106 +4 89

Thanks, Pat. Showered and now trying to stay cool. I gave her a SCANT tsp 10% post +4. Will recheck 30 mins. She's not happy about pokeys today...I think because she feels good.
Why does my mamabean have to spoil a good day with all those pokeys???

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281 +2 158 +2.5 143 +3.5 106 +4 89

You're doing great. Seems like you've got the later, rinse, repeat action down to a science!

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281 +2 158 +2.5 143 +3.5 106 +4 89

ok girl, let cool head prevail..the 10% was a good idea.
this dose sure is working...we will find out soon enough if it is OVER working if you know what i mean?

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281 +2 158 +2.5 143 +3.5 106 +4 89

Thanks, Sienne and Lori....trying to stay cool. So instead of hovering over her the entire 30 mins between tests, I actually managed to shower, sweep the front porch, fill the outdoor fountains, and water some plants....Cool enough? I'm sure another drop and I'll be nailbite_smile nailbite_smile nailbite_smile But I want her to have a nice surf so she can get used to being "normal".

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281 +2 158 +2.5 143 +3.5 106 +4 89 +4.5 87

ahhhhh surfing the cool green waters of tucson!

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281 +2 158 +2.5 143 +3.5 106 +4 89 +4.5 87

Yep...hope I didn't slow her down too much. I'm going to give her an hour now and then test and see where she is.

Still hot there? Getting warmer here now..had to close doors and windows. How's TomTom doing on his numbers? Think I'll hop over to PZI and check it out.

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281 +2 158 +2.5 143 +3.5 106 +4 89 +4.5 87

love it! you're doing all the good. that 30 minutes between tests - isn't it the longest 30 minutes of your life?

Surf, baby girl.

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281 +2 158 +2.5 143 +3.5 106 +4 89 +4.5 87

Ooh Gracie - look at you girl! Surf it baby, surf it! You're doing great Marjorie! And thanks for dropping by and keeping tabs on us.

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281 +2 158 +2.5 143 +3.5 106 +4 89 +4.5 87

Thanks, Kim!!

It is the LONGEST but I'm trying to get some things done to help me with it. I bet it's even longer if you don't feel well or you are so tired that you can hardly stand it. I'm certain we're in for some of that but it's ok....whatever it takes ;-) I'm waiting an hour now as she slowed down some and she's napping.

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281 +2 158 +2.5 143 +3.5 106 +4 89 +4.5 87

Thanks Anne for checking it. I can do this, I can do this, I can do this....alone no less as DH is out and all the other kits are sleeping. So it's
a good exercise for me. He goes back to work in 2 weeks and then I'll be on my own again for doing Teddi's fluids, Gus's meds, and keeping
Gracie stable...oh, yeah...and working   But there are so many role models in LL that it'll all be good!

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281 +2 158 +2.5 143 +3.5 106 +4 89 +4.5 87

Gracie's looking good! You're doing a great job Marjorie! I know how scary those greens are at first. Emma hasn't seen too many of them, but we do wish they'd come back!

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281 +2 158 +2.5 143 +3.5 106 +4 89 +4.5 87

Gracie is looking very good! You may have wondered where I went after we PM'd before you started insulin. I'm watching your condos but not chiming in (except now), because I just don't have the expertise to be of any help.

Keep up the good work!

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281 +2 158 +2.5 143 +3.5 106 +4 89 +4.5 87

Thank you, Kristen and Jean....I really appreciate the moral support!!! We are getting more comfortable and less panicky when numbers start to drop.
I hope your kitties are doing well...I'm sorry I haven't checked into your posts...I am so focused on Gracie and can only visit so many other posts but
it means alot to me to hear from you!!

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281 +2 158 +3.5 106 +4 89 +4.5 87 +5.5 112

BUMMER....guess I should have stuck with the 7% instead of the 10...she was so slow to react to the HC the other day that I thought 10% would
steer her nice and steady. Learning about my baby!!

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281 +2 158 +3.5 106 +4 89 +4.5 87 +5.5 112

You are doing great !! this is how we learn - about foods an how our kitties react to what we fed them. Good job! I am still learning too - an ongoing process. What a nice surf Gracie has going - I hope she can hold this. Did you feed the +5.5? As soon as she reaches nadir maybe you can hold off some on the food, and see if she will surf these wonderful numbers! If she still drops you can always feed again.

nice job - you are becoming a pro! :-D

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281 +2 158 +3.5 106 +4 89 +4.5 87 +5.5 112

112 is still a perfectly respectable surf

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281 +2 158 +3.5 106 +4 89 +4.5 87 +5.5 112

Thanks Michelle and MJ...I did not feed the +5.5 because I want her to hold it. I'm getting the basics, right?  And I do mean the VERY basics.
I probably won't test her now until +7 or +8 and go from there...she's cazonked snoozing.

Re: 9/28 Gracie AMPS 281 +2 158 +3.5 106 +4 89 +4.5 87 +5.5 112

You are sure looking great today  you asked about paw testing it was the only way I could test DL back in my early FD days I tried to test his ears but he hates just hates his ears touched so after 2 weeks of failing at this I gave up on hometesting all together and it was not until March when I finally was able to get him on lantus that I knew I had to learn thats when I saw somewhere on here about pad testing and so we started and he is great just lays on his side purring away I do put neosporin on them each time and keep a eye out for infection since its his feet but so far he has done real well with this

Re: 9/28 GracieAMPS281+2 158+3.5 106+4 89+4.5 87+5.5 112+7 112

WHOOOOOO HOOOOOOO _ I always Miss the excitement lately!!! Da*n Working!!
LOOK At Gracie!--You did a great job--I so remember the days of counting down the 15 min-half hour till next test!!!

Idea into reality--I test shoot & feed Moonie in the bedroom, so when she goes low, to save time,I bring my laptop into the bedroom right by her, so it's all right there!!
No fuss, running back & forth to computee, no time lost--I'm neurotic huh??
Been testing Moonie's ears for yrs. & she never even had a scab!! Whaata good girl--
Whatever you do, you do with love & she knows that--Hugs from Us!

Re: 9/28 GracieAMPS281 +3.5 106+4 89+4.5 87+5.5 112+7 112+10 160

Thanks, Roni and Michelle...a great afternoon for my baby girl and she has acted more like her old self today ALL day!! It brings tears to our eyes!

Back for PMPS and see where we go tonight!

Re: 9/28 GracieAMPS281 +4.5 87+5.5 112+7 112+10 160 PS QUESTION!

We're coming up on PMPS. Gracie has been in the blue most of today. Her +10 was 160. If she follows her pattern, I would assume her PMPS will be higher but
I want to be sure I don't "pull the trigger" too fast.

1. If her PMPS is lower than her +10, I need to wait and keep testing until it comes up, is that correct?
2. If her PMPS is higher than her +10, I'm assuming I should do normal shoot at normal time, right?

Is anyone around tonight if we need any help :-D Thanks!!

Re: 9/28 Gracie PMPS 393 Question Please

confused_cat confused_cat confused_cat confused_cat She hasn't ever had a number this high since we've been testing. Bummer.

If a cat is bouncing between nice numbers and ridiculous numbers, how do you know when she needs a dosecrease? Do you wait for the bounce
to clear and see what her numbers are? This is Gracie's 8th cycle at 1u. Thanks!!

Thinking of Stu like us all.

the answer is SHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!! (at +12 of course, not now). She had a nadir already in this cycle, so there is no need to worry about whether the +12 is higher than +10. It might be, it might not be (lots of Lantus kitties do the double dip, meaning that they go back down a little after +10). The reason that people will wait for a rise sometimes is if a cat is clearing a bounce right at PS time, the cat could be going down fast and sometimes adding insulin to that fast ride can get REALLY fast.

Some people will wait if they see a cycle like this:

AMPS 400
+6 ~ 200
+10 ~ 150
PMPS 100

See how it is going down all day? But if it's this:

AMPS 400
+6 ~ 70
+10 ~ 130
PMPS 100

then no worries because there was already a nadir, and this lower +12 is just a double dip. Totally shootable if you're able to monitor.

Does that make sense?

Re: 9/28 GracieAMPS281 +4.5 87+5.5 112+7 112+10 160 PS QUESTION!

I'm not quite sure where those 'rules' came from. Generally, the relationship between a late in the cycle test and your PS test and whether you shoot depends on where the number is. For example, if your +10 or +11 is 375 and your PS is 330, I think you'd shoot regardless. If the +11 was 75 and the PS was 55, you might want to stall and see if the numbers were coming up.

Some cats also double dip -- drop at shot time.

I think it's good you're trying to think about the various scenarios. I just think that when dealing with cats, it's a matter of the best laid plans tend to cause you to trip over the monkey wrench your kitty throws into the works.

And, to answer your question about dosecreases, yes -- you wait until the bounce clears.

Re: 9/28 Gracie PMPS 393

Thanks Libby and Sienne!! Well...as usual when I jump the gun and come up with scenarios, she does the opposite so one of these days I'll learn to listen to you all
and not anticipate what she's going to do. I went back and looked at some other SSs...Tess, Binks, etc and it looks like they've had some cycles like this, too. I had hoped that because her drop today was gradual, that her liver was getting the hang of it but guess not. Darn..and she felt so good today.

One quick question...when I shot her tonight, as usual, I part the fur when I'm done and make sure there is no insulin or insulin smell. Tonight, there was a little blood on
her skin but no insulin or insulin smell. Do you think I might have just hit a capillary or did I goof the shot? Thanks!! I know we are all really upset about Stu.

Re: 9/28 Gracie PMPS 393 Blood with Shot???

You probably nicked a capillary. And yes, I've gone through a lot of tissues thinking about Stu. So sad.

Re: 9/28 Gracie PMPS 393 Blood with Shot???

Thanks, Sienne for the response. Those needles are sharp...I was putting the cap back on one this morning and got the cap crooked, the needle came through it and stabbed me but I'd already given her the shot.

We lost Gracie's best friend, Max, last Feb (same age as Stu) to polycystic kidney disease. Interesting that Ella said Stu had nodules on his kidneys as that
is what PKD can look like even though it's cysts. Also interesting that his BUN shot up like that because that is exactly what happened to Max despite the
fact that we were giving him subq fluids and treating him similar to CKD (CRF). It was almost overnight...BUN, creat, and phosphorus went wild and three
days in hosp on IV fluids did not make any difference. Who knows what caused Stu's sudden change but it really is tragic.

Hope Gabby is well. Thanks again.

Re: 9/28 Gracie PMPS 393

So agreed on Stu - we will all miss him.

And Gracie really is doing well - great day today. The whole process just takes time... Sorry for the pink at pmps. I hope she clears it quickly - I bet she does.

Have a great evening!

Re: 9/28 Gracie PMPS 393

Thanks, Michelle. I hope she recovers quickly from it...such a surprise to have it jump like that.

Dear Mannie...we are so sorry you lost your best friend today. Now he is a special angel watching over us all.
