Good morning LL! Everyone in the Gracie household is dragging today 'cept the kitten. He's running around as if to say "what are we doing today what are we doing today?"
We stayed up until 1:30 am to catch that +6 just because we didn't trust her :lol: So now headed btb to catch a couple winks before +2 to see if the rodeo starts again today. I have no idea how long this bounce will last....all of you guides were so right!! And I was hoping our girl might be different but it was alot for her little system in one day.

Achilles...I'm rooting for you during your trial. Mannie, pls tell Stu I hope he passes his "test" and gets to stay in a health spa a few days so he can feel better. My brother Gus did that and he's lots better....go Stu...hope you got a nanner with you (but they won't let you bring it home).

That's how the kitties do it...when they are good and ready. Not a moment earlier either! :lol:

Your little girl is doing very well for herself...and so are you too! Their uniqueness seems to take a back seat for this FD dance kiddo. They are all pretty similar in their reactions to the dance.
And, so are most of the Beans. Some are not as conscientious as you...so it is good to see you are keeping on top of things!

Nice day for Gracie yesterday - you guys did so well. Kudos to you for staying up to get the +6. Good job! I hope she has a great day - be patient on the bounce clearing - some go quickly, some take a couple of days. Have a good one today.

I echo what Pat said.
Marjorie, you have done such a great job in such a short amount of time. I was in your shoes about 6 weeks ago and I went through the same ups and downs you are feeling.
One thing I found helpful was to experiment with the LC and MC food percentages to get a sense of what Achilles reacted to. I found that at times all he needed was an 8% or 9% snack to get his numbers up and get him to surf instead of karo or HC gravy. Of course, ECID and Gracie will let you know what she needs. All in good time my dear... :-D
Keep up the great work! And thanks for cheering us on with our trial. It means a lot.

Good morning...again....had a power nap out on the kitty cage...it's a beautiful, cool, breezy morning in Tucson so we opened up all the doors and windows
and the house is filled with autumn air and birds singing. Had my first cup of ~O) ~O) and breffis....baby girl is good...stacking up for a great day.

Gosh...thank you all SO much for your wonderful supportive comments today. You all help to keep me grounded :-D

Pat: You are one of my mainstays in sound advice. Thank you. And I'm finally learning how to do my posts...now if I could just abbreviate my questions :lol: :lol:

MJ and MIchelle: thank you both for keeping track of us...your comments help me to realize that I need to go back to the word PATIENCE. I just so want my little girl to be her old self again....she has certainly been more subdued since this whole FD started...I don't know if it's all the ups and downs her little body is going through or not. Anyway, if you want to see another adorable photo of her, I added one to my profile. You'll see the SF in her for sure, MJ.

Eva: Thank you for your kudos. Like I've said before, you and Achilles are our motivation. Do you want to come and live with us and help me get Gracie where Achilles is? I labelled all the food can tops yesterday with the % carbs and I have called the companies of the food I feed to reverify the info on J&B's charts so I can ensure she's getting LC. I wish we hadn't gone into the HC gravy yesterday but it was an honest mistake...one we won't make again. Live and learn ;-) I am so excited for your trial!!

Anne: Thanks for your "blue" thoughts but looks like my girl is gonna give it her best bounce today :lol: I hope little Muffin starts to feel better and better each day. She isn't that much older than Gracie...still kittens!!

Mike and I were talking that this might be good actually for Grace to have a little break today. She was really worn out by all that action yesterday...wouldn't let her sleep for pokeying her every 30 mins...my gosh, she only got in 18 hours of sleep instead of 20 :lol: :lol:

Just saw the new pic of Gracie...she is gorgeous. What a beautiful little girl you are Gracie.

Achilles knows how you feel about the pokies Gracie. Some sugarbabies can sleep through them, but Achilles was not one of them. He just gives us a look and I know he's thinking "come on, you just bit my eat 30 minutes ago, now give me a treat and let me sleep!" :lol: :lol:

Thanks Eva...she is really a very beautiful little girl and her purrsonality is something super special...but they all are. As soon as I saw her little face
on the breeder's website, I knew she had to be mine. I knew the breeder and called him and he said she was "breeder quality" and she was promised to
a Scottish Fold breeder in CA. I told him...sorry...that is my kitten...we have a telepathic connection!! He just laughed. But then he called me back
two weeks later and he had taken her to the vet and her jaw was off by a HAIR (it is not even noticeable) and so he said he would not put her in the
breeding program and altho he had about 10 people on the list ahead of me, he felt she was meant to be ours. So I travelled to Canada to get her and
she has been my heart and joy in a very, very special way. Anyway..more than you probably wanted to know but I'm chatty today ~O) ~O) ~O)

Lori...yep..looks like a slow day...but you never know with our girl! Call me so we can do Tom's picture.

tom, who is usually aloof to ALL cats...altho much admired by the ladies...has taken a curious interest in gracie.
he asked me to offer her a bit of his raw rabbit as a greeting gesture. then he walked away, licked his butt and lay down for a nap.

ohmygod_smile MJ...I love her ears like that :lol: :lol: CLOTHESPINS??? YIKES!! :lol: :lol: When we got our new kitten, Tobey, I purposefully
went for the SE instead of the FE. I think the SEs are healthier and they have much less dental issues. I have to really stay on top of the teefies for
the FEs (well, we do for all and brush every day) but even brushing every day, the FEs get more plaque than the SEs. My 13-year old SE who crossed over
had one dental his entire life and his teeth were beautiful. My FEs...they need dentals about every year.

Lori...Gracie says...bring it on TomTom...I'm a lot of woman in a little pkg but not sure about the raw bunny.

I'm trying to figure out what's best here. Gracie seems to be at her nadir between 5 and 6. I was going to just wait and test at +10. Does anyone have any other thoughts about whether I should test sooner than that? I like the yellow :-D

tom digresses his offer of raw bunny. altho it's his personal favorite meal, he would like to know if there is anything special that miss gracie would like as gift. he let me know he is entertained by her spunky 'bring it on' and feels compelled to do just that. most of the ladies are so shy about dating tom. he truly is uber kewl.
truth be known, he is quite taken with her looks. would gracie enjoy a small gift wrapped live mousie or lizard with a bow?
does she enjoy hunting or lounging by a sunny window watching animal planet?

Tom...your offers are most generous! I love laying by the windows at the back of the house and watching our collared lizard, Collin, scampering
around on the patio and from my kitty cage, I can see little rodents scurrying around in the courtyard at night...they look YUMMY. Being only an indoor feline, I've never sampled one...I am a lady of the highest order; however, I am known as being a great hunter of scorpions and bagged my first one when I was about 14 weeks old and weighed less than 1.5 lbs! He was almost as large as I was at the time. I actually was stung on the chin by one of those vile creatures when I was 2 years old so I have now learned to just torment them from a distance. My mamabean is not happy that they get into the house and she even stepped on one...I felt her pain :lol: Anyway, I digress. As for you, big Tom, you are extremely manly and handsome; I love that sardonic look on your face....shows real catitude. How old are you? When you wanna hook up?

Thanks, Libby. I'm glad she's coming down...just wondering if I should just do a +10 and then PMPS or should I throw in a +8, +10 and PMPS? She's getting in some rest today and I wonder with a 244 this morning if we'll see her come back down for a long night :smile: Thanks for checking in on us. I usually like to watch where my kitties are going during the day.... I am alerted at each new BG test as to what I MAY see in an hour or two. Yet, I don't really KNOW for sure what will be. I wouldn't put money on a guess even after doing this for 13 months. Sometimes, my guesses are good and turn out right...but I don't bet on anything.

If you look at Shadow's SS you will see less testing in the beginning when I didn't know too much. Later on I realized the value of testing and the amount of tests kinda picked up a little. :lol: (meaning that I still have some white boxes on my SS)
The more data, the better you can see a pattern. My Shadow is on Levemir so his nadir changes but mostly I expect that the cycle is not over at +4 for us...I expect to see lowered numbers all the way up to +8. And then he surprises me some evenings with a low number again at the PM preshot!

You will have to decide when to test Gracie in the end Marjorie. Let's say that yesterday you decided to give Gracie's ear a rest since she started off with a yellow and planned on testing her at +7. Where do you suppose Gracie's numbers would have been if you hadn't intervened at the early times? See what I mean? Some people think they know what is going to happen and if they don't test. Well, many times they are surprised. The more data you have collected, the better. The testing might be upsetting at first, but few more instances of lower numbers and you will be SO happy that you have that important tool at your disposal.

Thanks Roni ...so I'll take that as an emphatic "only test at +10" :lol: :lol: Gracie thanks you. She's doing really great this afternoon and seems relatively happy so
I'm happy to leave her be as far as pokeys. I am happy that the bounce did not stay up in the pink all day...I was concerned about that. Thinking the +2 might have been food but I only fed her after AMPS, before shot, and a little after shot to try and see what's really happening.

I would love to be your gal pal, Moonie!! And, unlike my sister, Teddi, I look normal 'cept my little flat face :lol:

Thanks, Pat. I have looked at both of your kitties' spreadsheets and I see your point. So guess I'll rethink that +8 and test her. Yesterday, I just had an intuition that we should watch her more closely. She's very good at test time but she doesn't like it and by last night, she had started to growl a little but was still a good girl. My biggest issue now is I cannot figure out what her nadir is. Sometimes it looks like +5 and others +6. And can I judge by what happened yesterday when we were feeding her HC foods? If I look at yesterday, her nadir would have been about +4.5 but I was steering her up so who knows when she would have turned on her own? Like you said..it could have been 6, 8....I do know we were both surprised when she was still 111 at +10...we thought she'd bounce higher, quicker. She's an enigma :lol:

Guess I may have answered my own question about her nadir. Definitely between +5 and +6 but it's confusing since some days +5 is her lowest number
and some days +6 is but except for yesterday, she really has little variation.

Wow..what a bounce!! She's feeling really lethargic too....is that normal with a bounce like this?? She is eating really well. Haven't checked her ketones today
as she hasn't been in box since earlier so will be sure and do that ASAP. It took her a solid three days before to clear the bounce; I'm trying to decide how much to test tonight and I'm thinking a +2 and +4 and see where she is? I'm more comfortable with the +5 cause that is closer to what I think her nadir is..I may just have to go to bed and get up. Thanks for suggestions!

Sometimes higher numbers can make them a bit "slow", we saw that too.
Is she eating ok tonight?
Do try for that ketones check when you can.

+2, +4 sounds ok.
+5 is good too. Follow your instincts.

Food spike...Gracie LOVES cooked green peas and DH wasn't thinking when he gave her some. Plus...she was absolutely starving at +1 so I gave her 1 tsp LC.

when Shadow was running numbers like Gracie's, she was hungry all the time and if she wandered into the kitchen wanting to eat, I fed her. now that she runs lower numbers, that has gone away and I can get away with just a small snack here and there because she certainly could stand to lose some weight. (couldn't we all? :-D )

so Gracie loves green peas? how did you guys discover that? wonder where green peas fit on the glycemic index scale? k, just looked in my south beach book, they let you have them in Phase 2. do you think they gave her much of a food spike?

when you say Gracie's jaw is off by a hair, what does that mean, exactly?

Sorry you have to be up so late...yes we're on PDT right now. I was born in Ft Worth, BTW...still have half my family there.

Gracie loves peas but really loves corn; however, she no longer can have any of that at all and he didn't give her many peas. Thanks for looking it up
in your South Beach book. I don't know that it hurt her too much...she's been bouncing after a great day on ....Sat? Can't remember now.

If you look at her teeth, her upper jaw is just a hair off centerline from her bottom jaw. But it's so tiny that it doesn't affect her bite.

do you set an alarm or are you up roaming around the house? I'm hanging by a thread. one more poke and I'm done, unless she surprises me with something wonky. she's not a very wonky girl but I need to make sure she isn't going to drop any more.

Hey Kim...guess we conked out before I read your last post last night. We're off for two weeks so we were just up...we take turns napping. Not sure how we'll
do this when it's time to go back to work. But we'll figure it out. Hope you got some rest last night..need to look at your numbers for today. Typically I go over to
FW every six months to see my mom but with cat issues this last spring and now, I haven't been in a while. Hope you have a great day!
 
Gracie is doing so well, and such a cutie. I wouldn't call 2 points a food spike. Remember meters are only guaranteed within 20% , so the higher the number the more variance there can be. Even in a low range 2 points is considered the same number. Usually +2 is about the same as PS so Gracie's numbers are classic.
