Yesterday's Condo

We had green! Not for long, but I saw it, so it counts! Right now Cinco seems to be hung up on numbers ending in 9. Not sure what that means, but I hope he's not planning to go up much higher. Of course, the last time he had a cycle that looked like this we had a PJ party that night. Good thing we have no plans to go out!

Another very difficult pilling session this morning. I am having slightly more success getting Cinco's mouth open using Amy's hint of tapping the side of his mouth, but he doesn't open it far, and with my clumsy fingers I can't always get the popper in far enough to shoot the pill to the back of his throat, so he works it back out. Since the Clavamox tablets are so big, I've been cutting them into pieces and putting them in gelcaps, but that means at least two gelcaps, and then there's also the Tramadol, so that's three gelcaps. I may try tonight to put 3/4 of the Clavamox in a #3 gelcap and the other 1/4 plus the Tramadol in a #4. That at least reduces the number of times we have to wrestle. I checked, and Clavamox is not available in an injectible form. We have an appointment at 5:00 pm to get the Fentanyl patch removed. I'm hoping he'll only need the Tramadol another couple of days.

At least Cinco's appetite is good today. All four kitties qualified for CPC. :-D

We finally got some rain yesterday - a thunderstorm rolled in during the afternoon and it poured. We even got a little bit of hail (very small pellets). Then it settled into a steady drizzle that lasted for a couple of hours! :-D :-D :-D Very nice for this whole area, and even better, it rained in the Sierra foothills where they are fighting a huge wildfire. Hopefully this is the beginning of the end of that blaze. The smoke has spread all over the Sacramento valley and beyond - we've even gotten a little here a couple of times.

I'm going to run to Petco and see if I can get one or two more of the glass inserts for the new feeding system - just in case they are phasing that size out. Plus I can then have one in the dishwasher and another one or two to use, instead of having to wash it after every feeding.

Sending healing vines to all kitties in need, and hugs to all their beans. :YMHUG:

Praying for Amy's DF, Lyresa's DF & DH, Elise's DM and Wendy's DM, as well as our entire LL family.

It's nice to see those greens today for Cinco. Are you able to give Cinco liquid medicine? Clavamox does come in a liquid, but I don't know if it would be any easier than the pilling. I hope you are able to get the insert dishes at Petco.

I noticed in J.D.'s condo you mentioned you get Advantage Multi at your vet. 1800PetMeds.com sells it. When I looked at their web site, it looks like it is for dogs, but when you click on it you can select dog or cat. http://www.1800petmeds.com/Advantage+Multi-prod10945.html

Yay for CPC for all the kitties and for the rain.

Hi Carla. Thanks for stopping by. The vet did offer the Clavamox as a liquid, but I'm not sure that would be much better, as it is so hard to get his mouth open. The AB I gave him for Bartonella was liquid, and I seem to remember having more success with that, so I have been thinking about trying the liquid. I may call on Monday and ask for it, since that would give me a second option.

Yes, you can get Advantage Multi at 1-800-petmeds, and a few other places, but it still requires a prescription. My vet doesn't mark things like that up much, so I just get it from her.

I wish I didn't have an inborn disdain for people who drink alcohol in the morning, as I sure needed an adult beverage after today's session!.

Hey - it's not afternoon anymore. Perhaps an adult beverage is still in order! ;-)

So sorry that you are having such a hard time with pilling. We've been extremely fortunate that our kitties will eat pill pockets...and eat them after being dusted in FortiFlora when the plain ol' pill pockets aren't doing the trick. We did use a pill popper for a cat, but that was years ago. All I remember is that it wasn't pleasant.

Besides the bad pilling experience, how is Cinco doing? His numbers are looking good, especially after all that has happened this week.

Good call on the vetty visit. It will be a lot let stressful on you (and probably Cinco, too) just to have them take care of it.

Have a great night, Tricia! Should I hope for a PJ party? It just seems wrong to hope someone has to stay up most of the night, but then it seems wrong to hope that the numbers don't get down into those pretty greens. I'm just so confused. :? ohmygod_smile

Hi Tricia! Well that is a pretty nice blue and green day so far, maybe a night like that too, Cinco? Beautiful. Mr Greenie counts no matter how long;)

Sorry about the difficult pilling...I hope you manage to get the Clavamox in liquid, and it works better. You'd think by now someone would have invented a better way to pill a cat, or made all medications injectable...lol. May the patch removal go smoothly as well as the rest of your day! I'll send you a message later too, hopefully. If I get home in time and don't collapse from being wiped out from work, busy in spurts today;)

Woo hoo on all kitties CPC! I hope Petco has what you need, I wish we had a Petco here, they have some interesting stuff. Happy Caturday!

I have a terrible time getting pills into Tess too. She's so gentle and quiet, but boy that tongue whips pills out in the blink of an eye! Liquids work much better for her, but the liquid Clavamox really upsets her tummy.

Re: 9/27 Cinco PMPS 103

Thanks for visiting, Ann, Rachel and Shelly.

We're back from the vet - the worst thing about it was the trip there - Cinco peed in the carrier! :o Not a big surprise, but a pain. They let me go straight to an exam room so I could get him out of the carrier and replace the wet pee pads (I alway carry a supply). I tried to wipe him off the best I could, too. The tech that came to get him seemed to be pretty knowledgeable about Fentanyl patches. It only took about five minutes and she said she got all the residue off and sprayed it with something that sounded like Vetcillen (?) which she said should help prevent irritation. They didn't charge me anything, which I thought was nice since they didn't do the surgery. Since he's been home he's been trying to contort his body so that he can get to it, but fortunately the cone is doing its job and he's just fallen asleep from all the effort! Poor baby.

Ann, the pill form of Clavamox upset Sasha's tummy, too, but I learned if I gave it to her at least half an hour after she'd eaten, it didn't bother her. So I've been sure to do the same with Cinco. Hopefully it will work with the liquid, too.

Yes, Rachel, some lovely numbers today. I'm fine with a PJ party, if that's what Cinco wants to do. Judging by that PMPS, it just might happen! I agree with wishing there was a better way. I have a hard time with Sasha, too, but not quite as bad. With her, injectables wouldn't work. The Oncologist said, due to her vaccine related sarcoma, we want to keep the injections down to only what is absolutely necessary. I pray she doesn't develop diabetes!!

The Petco closest to us only had one dish in the extra small size. I nabbed it and will check the next closest one at my first opportunity - probably Tuesday.

Shelly, there are definitely adult beverages in my near future! Had to do a Costco run and hit Petco and the grocery store, but now we're home and I can imbibe. Gotta keep it in moderation though, in case Cinco requires my supervision. Cinco used to like pill pockets. I don't know why he stopped eating them. Forti flora worked for a while. Then FD salmon. Now nothing seems to induce him to eat them. He is otherwise doing well. Eating well and moving around. He's developed a real fondness for a vigorous back rub, something he loved when he was still an outside cat. He went through a phase where he didn't like them anymore, but now he's back to loving them. It's so cute the way he writhes around on the floor and tries to rub his paw across his face - something he does when he's really happy. He purrs, too, which is a rarity with him.

Gorgeous numbers for Cinco last night...I hope he carries that through today!

I can only imagine how difficult it is to pill a hard-to-pill cat with a cone and and incision on his little face. Sending tons and tons of prayers that the rest of the pilling goes better.

BTW, I don't use a popper - I use my fingers so I can feel what I'm doing. Any chance that might work better with Cinco?
