Jupiter is doing well todaybut hes still not eating much... He barely ate anything at all today....
ETA: well he seemed to be doing well...he was active... had a poor appy but seemed to be doing well.... now he went into the crate to lay and he only goes in there when hes not feeling well.... :sad:


This morning he somehow got onto his cat perch when I wasnt looking!!!!

Later in the day he tried to go up there again but this time he didnt make it up there and he was hanging on with his front paws and trying to get up but couldnt. I helped him up - I am so worried about him hurting himself! I also picked him up when he started looking like he didnt want to be up there anymore. I dont want him to be trying such high jumps quite yet til he strengthens his leg more - but hes a stubborn kitty! We are going to crate him overnight until Monday - then no more crate and no more restrictions for him. I dont want to risk him getting stuck somewhere when I am asleep or him jumping and hurting himself...

Sorry for the late post again today. I had a rash on my face this morning and it kept getting worse and I had no idea what it was from. Thought maybe allergic reaction or something. Went to see a doctor. She said she thinks it may be viral but she isnt sure. She prescribed me an allergy medicine(its supposed to help with the itching on my face) .... which is the same medicine I used to take for insomnia (Vistaril) so the meds knock me out. There is no staying awake after I take it. I also have a kidney infection :sad: so I got some AB's for that. Cant deal with all these stones and now an infection. Its exhausting!

Whenever you are stressed your immune system takes a hit.. As Jupiter feels better, and you worry less, you will feel better too!!

Are you feeding him anything different from before? Is he on any meds? He sounds like he is doing well so something is impacting his appetite...
 
He ocassionally gets temptations treats(yes HC dry treats - but after surgery it was just so important we get him to eat something...anything at all) when I cant get him to eat... Been giving him a few of those a day... sometimes if I can get him to eat a few treats I think he realizes hes hungry and will then eat his food. I am going to try some Iams max cal (Thanks Dyana for sending a few cans for Jupe!) since he ate so little today. Hes being picky and sometimes the only thing I can get him to eat is a FF appetizer or a meow mix wet cup of food...


I already have a really bad immune system. My kidneys dont function well so doctors think that they arent getting rid of toxins in my blood as well as they should be. I get sick so easy all the time. This rash on my face though... never had anything like this before!

I often give J.D. some Temptations (just a few) as he likes them and I need him to eat, too. Sometimes, whatever food is better than none, ya know? You're doing fine. What has his blood sugar been? Is tonight the last night of the cone?
 
No more cone for Jupiter! He wore it most of the night until Dane got up for work and then we took the cone off. We will continue to use the crate at night for maybe 2-3 more days.

His BG was 67 yesterday @ 6:45pm

The only meds he is on is Prozac for anxiety which is a regular medicine for him.

I offer him food and he just wont eat and we leave food out at all times and hes just not eating much. For a few days he ate better but his appy is back to really poor again.

I just offered him some normal LC pate and some max cal and he did not want either. He ate about 5 temptations treats maybe about an hour ago...

I think I am going to give him a meow mix wet cup of food... see if he will eat that. I dont know the carbs on those but I just need him to eat something.... anything

Some of the time he might be being picky and wanting a FF appetizer or meow mix cup... I dont know....


I know hes not feeling well now... He just went and laid in the crate... He never does this unless hes not feeling well. He left the bed to go to the crate :sad:
 
The last time we gave him Bupe was Saturday 9/21. The vet said he shouldnt be in anymore pain and he doesnt seem to be in pain either... He has been pretty active the past few days.

I tried the meow mix cup and he did eat some of it but not a lot...
 
Awww, so sorry Jupe isn't eating good :sad: Come on Jupiter, the more you eat the stronger you get.

I am not sure exactly because the 3 of my cats share food and free feed. I do notice when he doesnt go to the food plate at all though because I watch him. Put food in front of him earlier in the day and he took like 4 licks and didnt want anymore... thats usually not a good sign for him

Hes just eating a lot less then he normally would. Hes lost weight so maybe he doesnt need as much? But hes not even eating anywhere near the amount the civies are eating and they weigh less then him.

His current weight is 14.6lbs (This was on Monday when the vet weighed him when he went in to get staples removed)
He was 15.2lbs 3 days after the amputation surgery
He was 16.1 lbs before the amputation surgery
 
Well before the surgery he had another leg, so that was extra weight.. Why don't you weigh him (hold him and weigh yourself with and without him and do the math). Then weigh him again next week and see.

Meanwhile try and keep a close eye on him and tempt him to eat. He might be eating more than you think.
 
We put 2 cans of FF LC pate out this morning at 7am. They didnt eat it all about 1/3 of a can left sitting that we threw out. (Jupiter ate about a third of 1 can of food this morning) We put out 2 more cans and Jupiter took maybe 4 or 5 licks from and civies ate about half of that food.

Jupiter ate maybe 1/3 a can of food this morning... then only a few licks later in the day.... and just now ate a little bit of meow mix
 
He's going to have his ups and downs. Jupe will get stronger and stronger as he recovers, sometimes just like humans cats will over exert them selves. Sending good appy vines for Jupe and anti-itch vines for you.
 
Our scale ( we are using a wii fit board and do not have a scale) doesnt seem to be very accurate. We got 4 weights so far..

I will try my best to try to keep track exactly how much hes eating. For his weight how much should he be eating a day? Can someone please help me figure that out?
 
All you can do is take an average and weigh again in a week or two. If he loses a significant amount of weight you should see it.

How much to feed? Required calories per day = [13.6 X ideal weight in lbs] + 70

One can of ff is about 85 calories. But required calories varies with activity level etc. And he is still recovering. Have you tried feeding him separately? Ie away from the other cats?

If a good weight is between 14 - 15 lbs, he should be getting between 260 - 270 calories per day. However, the formula that Wendy gave you is from Dr. Lisa's site and she says that it is "generous."

You might think about smashing some of the Temptations and sprinkling it on Jupe's food.

It's impressive Jupiter jumped to his cat perch by himself today!!!

I am sorry his appetite is poor.... :sad:
Have you tried Hill's a/d?
I know that prescription foods are over-rated, but I know of a few kitties who ate nothing else but this one when they were sick.
When/if you go to the vet next time, ask for a sample.
Many vet clinics give away a can as a sample.

ETA: But I don't know the carbs of this product, but figured anything is good if he eats at the moment...

I apologize for the lack of updates in the past few days - dealing with a kidney infection and a few other health problems.

I will be posting an update tomorrow about Jupiter, chemo, etc.


His appetite is on and off. I am doing everything I can to get him to eat. I do syringe a little max cal on the days he wont eat much even after I try everything. Lately though, he will eat with some FF appetizer on top... but thats about it.
