@Marje and Gracie

Any thoughts on what might of made Ravan's BG go up so high?

He goes to the vet tomorrow.Last time he did this was 8 weeks ago. I had him checked & blood work. Vet said everything looked OK.

I can't keep having Blood work done every time his BG goes up. I need to understand why it' suddenly went up.

How is he feeling? I don’t know other than the usual suspects:
  • Infection
  • Pancreatitis or some other inflammation
  • Stress
  • Contraband (which I know is unlikely here)
  • Insulin issue
  • Just needs an increase.

Do you still feed canned? Any chance that has changed?

His basic food is his Raw diet he's been eating all his life. I occasionally give him canned but he's not too interested. Nothing new. All his food is Low carb & low phosphorus. Like I said ,he did this a month ago I had him checked & blood work & nothing showed up???

How is he feeling?

He seems just fine.
Nothing different going on.?? THat's what's so confusing. He hasn't gone this high since last March. Just recently he was doing really good on .25 dose.

very interesting post by TSP

I checked out her post.

Ravan has been eating a raw diet all his life If I do give a bit of canned food it's not anything new.
He was doing so good for over 5 months ,this is so unexpected. He does have other issues. Kidney disease & high blood pressure. But the last blood work 8 weeks ago looked good even his kidney readings had stabilized.
I was Happy nothing was wrong. This sudden increase has me very concerned.

Hi there. :) Mostly a lurker chiming in here. Have been following Ravan's progress since my Sweet Pea's has progress has been very similar. Like Ravan, she has recently had a couple bouts of unexplained high bgs. She also has CKD and has blood work done once a month. Everything is always stable. She would go for weeks, months in greens and low blues then all of a sudden--yellow. Happening right now, in fact. I've researched and studied and found no answers but have developed a theory of my own. I feel like my cat's pancreas might be too damaged to fully heal. Yes, she got into remission but it did not last. It just might be that some cats are able to get very stable in the blues and greens with help a tiny amount insulin, but after awhile the pancreas gets tired out from shouldering the load and gives out. Give more insulin and pancreas heals a bit more and can shoulder the load more easily...until the next time it tires out. I'm feeling like Sweet Pea will never get back to remission but might get caught in this cycle of her pancreas helping/failing alternately throughout the weeks. It's been frustrating to see weeks, even months of greens only to pop up to yellow and have to scale back up the insulin ladder. Anyway, just thought I'd let you know you're not alone in experiencing random, unexplained increases. Hopefully we'll both find answers soon. :)

This is a very interesting theory! It’s as good of an explanation as any bloodwork has not shown any issues.

I think it's a very interesting theory as well. When you remove all the variables like no change in food or insulin and no apparent health issues, what’s left is how the kittie’s pancreas and other organs are dealing with diabetes and CKD.

Lots of compassion for you Joy. I sure wish I could contribute something useful. The gut has already been mentioned, which is what I keep thinking. Hairballs shot Tina up. Best wishes on the vet visit.

Thank you for your thoughts on Ravan's sudden high BG. I don't think I'd be so upset if he just went into yellow. It was nearly 6 months he didn't have any Pink #'s. When I saw the 372 yesterday I really got worried.

I guess I'll find out in a few days if anythings wrong.

Thanks to everyone for your kind words & support. With Peggy Sue having cancer & now Ravan's huge increase I'm just so stressed out!

It's dry. But she's eating Young Again Zero (dry). Forgot to change my sig. You can see where I panicked thinking her food was causing her numbers to go up, so I switched from YA (which worked wonders for her!) to Dr. Elsey's, which ended up being HORRENDOUS for her bg. As soon as I switched back to YA her bg sank like a stone. I think even the smallest increase in carbs put her over the edge.

Hi Joy :) :cat:
Nelli has CKD (it’s breaking my heart). She eats (has all her life) a raw diet like Raven. You mentioned this and it caught my attention: “All his food is Low carb & low phosphorus”
I am having a difficult time keeping Nelli P level down.
May I ask... do you make the raw diet or buy it?
Thanks :bighug:
.
I must ask, what in the heck is going on wih yellow, pink and, red... last few days?
Hope all is going ok in your world :bighug:
