Becky, is it possible for you to get that evening cycle check that Sienne's talking about? even if we can't see a daytime nadir, the evening often tells enough that the picture fills out a bit and we can at least make an educated guess. just check before you go to bed at night.
if the cost of strips is a factor in how often you test, try skipping the second half of a cycle on the weekend if you're seeing a relatively high mid-cycle. for example, last weekend, you could've skipped on the +9 and +10, maybe even the +7s after seeing the flatness of the am cycle between preshot and +4. Now i'm not saying those weren't good to get, because they do add information that is helpful. And if you'd gotten a lower number at +3 or +4 that showed that Lucy was dropping significantly from her preshot, then it would've been essential to get those later cycle checks. i'm just saying IF the cost of strips, which we all get can really add up, is what's preventing you from getting the evening checks, those later-cycle checks can sometimes be skipped so you can get a bedtime check.
we all get how upsetting it is to see high numbers and have no idea what's going on. it's awful - i remember feeling that way when punkin was newly diagnosed. you just don't know enough to know what to do and how to help your sweet kitter. Fortunately, seeing the numbers lets us see exactly what's going on most of the time. sometimes there's an illness or something we can't know about, but often we can decipher what is needed.
there are a set of different factors that commonly affect blood sugar, and people have mentioned a lot of them here. we can go through one by one and eliminate the ones that are unlikely and focus in on the ones that are. people here are skilled at doing that - we just need the info to be able to point you in the right direction.
trying to remember if we talked about a substitute to the Hill's M/D. a lot of people feed Young Again, which is more like 5% carbs, from what i understand. i don't have personal experience with that, but several cats seem to do well on it. is it possible to try that for the dry instead?
the three things i would think are most likely are 1) a bounce from low numbers that we haven't identified, 2) the dose not being high enough and 3) the high carbs from the dry food holding the blood sugar up (which if so, would be related to #2). the others that people have mentioned are also possibilities, but the ones above are probably (in my experience) the most common.
