Gave 3.5 u's

Hope everyone had a great day. Mine started with an awful smell coming from the basement...our freezer died, who knows when, but everything in it was RIPE. Ewww.

Ewwww, hope your day has improved!!!! Nice improvement on the PMPS at least. I'm glad it looks like you are getting lots of input lately, hoping things get under control for Klinger soon!

3;37am- just arrived home from the game and checked on your ss.
I would have loved a +2 tonight to see how high he went up from the 306

I hope he doesn't drop 270 pts tonight!

Please get a few mid cycle readings tomorrow- +2, +6 or 7, +11

good chance tomorrow may see a bounce into red/black because he probably dropped to blue (green?) tonight. Don't worry about it if it happens- it will pass.

Either he bounced or his over night eating is happening close to when I test him in the morning.
AMPS 582. I'll get a few spot checks in today.

this was definitely a bounce-see how it's way higher than any other preshot or +2 food spike.

just wish we had a +7 yesterday to see how low he went to cause it. It will take a few days to settle down but hopefully next bounce will be less dramatic. It's really good he had food out last night- he could have gotten into trouble without it. (BTW unless you shot 2 hours late there is no "+14", I think you meant pm+2. Remember every shot, the clock starts over)

You may need a sliding scale - preshots near 300 get a bit less insulin. maybe 3.3u.

Can hubby ever get a +7 during the week?

on the 19th when we tried 3.6u, it looks like he had a slight bounce in the AM and a very late low number at PMPS. This may be a similar thing today so you might want to try to get some later readings to see. Try to get a +11, at minimum. He may drop later today.

Klinger is definitely responding to micro changes. To try to keep him from bouncing so much, which can't feel great, how do you feel about a sliding scale trial this week? Give him 3.5u when he starts out high, and a tiny bit less when he has a lower ps. For example you could try something like:
over 500 3.6u
400-500 3.5u
350-400 3.4u
300-350 3.2u
250-300 2.6u

Obviously these are suggestions only, and the details of the moment will influence it (like how's he acting, eating, is anybody going to be home to test/watch, overnight vs daytime, vomiting etc) Many cats seem to drop lower at night. I don't know why.

I think shooting 3.5u on the 306 was a little risky especially overnight, when we saw that 3.5u dropped him 270 pts on a recent cycle. See what I mean? I know this is confusing, and you should be proud of yourself for trying sooo hard- :-D keep it up - he's not one of the "easy ones" but you are really helping soo much by gathering the data- without it we really would have nooo clue what was going on. ohmygod_smile GOOD JOB!

Nancy, you are doing a great job.

I'm sure you have heard my mantra about small doing changes and ProZinc. So, I totally support that. And your sliding scale there is pretty slick too.

Hi, sorry I've been gone all day and DH has been testing...
+7 393
+11 533
AMPS 495

Hubby unfortunately is on job sites and isn't allowed to leave for lunch, so he won't be able to test +7.
Fixed ss to pm+2 (thanks)
I like the sliding scale, at least it gives me something to go on when I'm not sure if I should be pushing through the bounce or adjusting for it. It was risky shooting the 3.5 last night! I'm glad I left the food out too! holy moly!
Thank you for all of your instructions, Nancy. This kitty is pretty darn resiliant to tollerate all of my errors. I don't know how he ever survived being on 7.5 u's. Seriously.
So, he's 495 and I'll give him 3.5 based on the scale and that he ate about 1/5 of his dinner, he's acting normal.

crappy day, but looks like he is settling down- hopefully tomorrow he'll be back to where we were last week, which was probably cruising a lot of (hidden) yellows, which is OK!

I hope the sliding scale is helpful and works ohmygod_smile , but please remember- you have over ride power which you MUST use. Only you know at 5:30 AM if you think something isn't right. LIke if he vomited (for real)= you take away insulin, if he wont eat, you reduce, if he is near the border of one of those levels, YOU decide which way you go- higher or lower based on what you are seeing - the WCR.

and we are still, and always will be collecting info to use going forward- so study his ss and try to remember what he does when you give xyz. The sliding scale is created individually and is frequently in flux so it may be obsolete next week. Feel completely free to change or adjust it.

and any info you can squeeze in during the week AM or PM is useful ;-)

And you are doing great - as for when to push through and when to back off- second guessing yourself is part of this disease LOL
but it does get easier. whenever in doubt, err on the the side of being safe, but just a little ;-)

The low end of that sliding scale was the hardest to create, because we don't have much data to tell us what to do, so I really had to guess.

So especially when you see a low preshot, really try to get something, anything mid cycle, so we can tweek it to actually work. Frequently, I actually set my alarm, and test him in my sleep, (but then I'm crazy :o . )

( At least I'm not shooting in my sleep- I tried to shoot PZI 3x/day at one point and THAT was really tough for me  )
