Hi LL!

I have been lurking almost every day, reading as many condos as I can. Cheering, praying, laughing and feeling heart broken over happenings in my LL family.

My good news is that Cleo is acting like she feels great! Good appy, good poo/pee. She can now jump to any counter with no assistance from her "stairs." She has gotten into a little kibble 2 times. Last time on 9/02. Since then kibble is only put out for Simon, when someone is sitting right near him, and it is put away as soon as Simon leaves. Cleo truly prefers wet food, just not most of the LC/LP that is best for her.

Another good thing: Before her DX, at her worse, Cleo always peed IN the LB. Giant, football pees!! Once she was DX'd, and I had to catch her for vet visit, testing, etc, she began letting her stream loose as soon as she knew she was cornered. That stopped as we progressed in our journey, thank goodness. But, Cleo then started peeing next to, or in the invisible LB about 50% of the time. Just in the laundry room boxes. I noticed that when we had to put the LB outside of the laundry room, for whatever reason, she always went IN the box. So, I moved both LB into the hallway outside of the laundry room about one month ago, shut the gate I have up for DGS, and she has not missed once!! It seems like she felt the whole laundry room floor was her LB. I will try putting one box back in this weekend, and leave the gate open to see how it goes.

Now my worry: Her BG has been running high for about the past week. I know her teeth are yucky looking, and I have put off a dental. I have been afraid due to her age (almost 16), and her heart murmur. Vet has graded it from a 1 to a 3/4, when stressed. I made an appt. for dental next Wed, 10/2. My questions are about the AB, if she needs one. I remember to say no Cerunia (sp), but what is a good replacement, hopefully liquid as she is hard to pill, and her mouth will be sore (I think). Also, is Bupe a good pain med, if needed? Any other special instructions I should give them since she is a diabetic kitty? I am a bundle of nerves, worrying about her high numbers, and then about her being knocked out. They will run a full blood panel the morning of her dental. This saves an extra, stressful visit to draw blood before dental.

Could her teeth be causing her higher numbers? Should I start giving her a little bit of insulin to bring her numbers down a little? I have not changed any food, we have not had any visitors to cause stress, and as I said she is acting likes she feels good. Sleeps a lot, but that is normal for her. She has actually been playing with some Mannie Nanners that I had ordered. She stretches and rolls from one to the other, giving them a hug/kick!! :-D :-D

Any thoughts appreciated! Sorry so long~

Thanks,

Jane

Hi Jane,
Sorry to hear Cleo's BG is up a bit. I don't have any advice, but just want to wish you luck with her dental. Hopefully it will help her numbers.
Sending you calming vines and Cleo great dental and vetty vines :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

You want to tell the vet no Convenia (not Cerenia -- this is for nausea/vomiting) because it's a shot that lasts 2 weeks. Once it's in, if your cat has an allergic reaction, it's a problem. Also, no Metacam (meloxicam) for pain if there are extractions. Metacam has an FDA black box warning due to it's causing renal failure in cats. Most of us ask for buperenorphine for pain management. My vet has prescribed clindamycin as an antibiotic when Gabby has needed one after a dental. I would also suggest that given the yuckiness of Cleo's teeth and her cardiac issues, you might ask about getting her on an AB several days prior to the dental.

There's a ton of information on dental procedures in this link.

I'm glad Cleo is feeling well and using the lb now.

When Furball had her dental, they gave her Antirobe Aquadrops (AB) before and after the dental. She got Bupe for the pain. The Antirobe is a liquid and it didn't raise her BG. Sending prayers for a good dental next week.

Hi Jane! It's good to get an update on Cleo - happy to hear she's feeling great! HOpe she stops using the laundry room as her LB! Cats - they think they own everything, don't they? Good luck on the dental next week - please keep us updated.

Have a great day!

Thank you Pam, Carla, Sienne, & Dara for the replies.

I spoke with the vet's office and will be starting Cleo on an AB two days before the dental. I think it was Clavamox. They said it will be the same AB I can give her after the dental also.

Her BG is still high. I hope the dental helps bring it down.

Have a good night LL! :-D

Jane

You may want to remove the candle. When you have the candle icon, it means that a kitty has crossed the Bridge.

Paws crossed for the dental! It's great to see that Cleo is feeling good. Hopefully the dental will bring the BGs back to the lagoon.

I just had a small heart attack when I saw the candle on this post. Happy to hear that Cleo is alive! Sending feel-better vines for an even better feeling Cleo.

Whew! You had me scared too! Clavamox is a good AB, but it can upset some cats digestion. Tess would stop eating and it caused her to vomit. Our vet switched her to Orbax and she did very well on it.

Looks like Cleo's Mr. P is not a happy camper  Wonder how much a dental can help.....
