9/24 Minnie - switch from Lev to ?

As of end of August, Mark's no longer has Levemir in stock. I haven't been active here in a longgggg time. What have others switched to from Levemir? We started on Lantus at Dx and switched to Levemir after about 6 months and 3 DKAs. Thanks!

Hi Liz! Not a lot of examples, but your options are Lantus or Tresiba (degludec). We have a forum for the latter, but it's pretty quiet. You'd have to look at some of the spreadsheets to see what you might expect from it. Tresiba is not something I'd suggest for someone new, cause we don't have much experience, but for old hands it might work. Luci (Sue and Luci) tried Tresiba for a while after Levemir a few years ago, but she went back to Lev after a couple months. I just checked out her 2026 spreadsheet, and she went back to Lantus this year. Looks pretty flat now. Luci was diagnosed in 2017 and must be about 20 now.

I moved the topic to a new thread Liz, cause I thought it might be helpful for others too. When you do switch, keep in mind that any switch might confuse the antibodies at first. We do recommend that when you switch from one long lasting insulin to another, you go at about 70% of the previous insulin dose. Just in case.
