Good Morning and Happy Weekend! ~O) ~O) Yesterday was a long day and mucho coffee is in order...

Well, yesterday was a disaster for poor Little Leo! We drove to the kid's house for a day party and he didn't throw up! The Cerenia must have worked. But he pooed (solid and liquid) and peed all in the carrier, and got it all over himself and the inside of the carrier. I cleaned him off as best I could when we got there, but he stayed curled in the bathroom behind the toilet on his blanket the whole time Poor Boy!

We left shortly after his PM shot and small meal and we got back to my place uneventfully...except for the bath. Luckily I got most all the poo off him with pet wipes, but he still got a waist-down scrub including his poor tail. He ate his second dinner (FortaFlora definitely helped!) He sure lived up to his name, the Little Stinker!!!

He's calmer back in familiar territory and wandering around this morning. Not sure how the 5P's will play out, but I'm sure he'll be back to some semblance of order today.

PLEASE (fingers and paws crossed) hope that he can get beyond the tummy issues and stress issues and become a Commuting Kitty. nailbite_smile

Re: 9/23 Leo AMPS 381

I think he will. This was just his first time, and he had that extra traveling to the party to go to this time.
He might not like the car trips much, but he'll get more used to them, and just coming back to your apartment after the party, I think helps to feel that your apartment is a good place to be.

Come on down, nice and easy, Leo.

When is his next car trip back to NJ?

Re: 9/23 Leo AMPS 381

I'm not sure when we're coming back. It was supposed to be on Thursday, but it may be delayed because my DIL is going to have a baby in the next week and I am supposed to be the one to take daughter #1 when the drama is in progress. But I can't take Leo home because DH will be out of town, so poor Leo will have to take an emergency run back down to VA for a couple days next weekend before returning back here....and then back to NJ. Sigh. POOR GUY!!!!!

Can you say New Dose Wonkiness?!? :?

Or is this vial of Lantus dead? It's 7 weeks old.

Re: 9/23 Leo AMPS 381 +2 448 +6 436

I'd lean toward the Lantus being toasty or just stress. Given that you've been traveling, it's possible the vial may have gotten shaken up. You may want to think about the pens.

I was just reading an article about travel with cat. I wish I could find it. Basically, they suggested desensitizing. Start by having Leo in a carrier at home and bring him from room to room. Gradually, have him spend more time in the carrier. Take him for a short ride and then extend the time. I think you may have done trial by fire. It may not hurt to do some shorter trips so he doesn't always assume that a trip is going to be of a long duration.

Hi Sienne - you're right - I can try shorter trips. We've only done the vet (5 miles). We didn't have a thought that this situation would arise, so there wasn't much time to do any training. If you find the article, send it along please. Seems like I'm always learning new things with Leo lately!

Hopefully it's just stress. I tried to be careful about the bottle - I keep it in the box, and put that in a narrow glass coffee mug. I put it way back on a shelf in the fridge, not on the door. I always keep it in the mug, and on the trip, I took an insulated soft-sided lunch box and put in a small bag of frozen peas. I put in some plastic grocery bags as a buffer and put the coffee mug in one corner. It wasn't touching the bag of peas, so it didn't freeze. The lunch box did roll onto the floor of my car - about a foot or so. But it was more a roll than a drop and everything was pretty padded. Would that damage it? I was hoping it would last a while before I had to get more - I got the vial because that's what the vet prescribed. I didn't know any better. I asked the pharmacist about using the pens and she said it couldn't be done with a syringe. :? Well, I guess everyone here at FDMB is clueless, right? :-|
