9-22 TYLER AMBG-63 UPDATE ON TYLER'S BLOODWORK I ENTERED IT

Hi Diane. I just looked at the urinalysis. A key item is missing. What is the USG? Bhooma is right that the phosphorus is too high. If feeding low phosphorus food and still high it’s time for aluminum hydroxide powder to be added to his food.
If you look further down on the results it reports specific gravity as 1.028.

Thanks Kyle. I missed that. So Tyler does have CKD. His BUN and creatinine are good though. I would not rush to add the add on test for proteinuria with trace protein. Max used to go up and down. If when you do the next urinalysis and it’s up that would be the time to add the protein creatinine ratio.

There are really good food lists in the FB group feline chronic kidney disease- including one for diabetic cats. Andrew Hall does a great job of keeping them updated. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1aqmnoTbHkDckpbds_4CSn9wi-dBAMJp-

Tyler’s labs look awesome! I don’t think it hurts to start managing phosphorus though. I couldn’t get Simon to eat any of the low phos foods so we just used a binder and it worked fine! Of course this is more important once a cat has CKD which does not describe Tyler :bighug:
Thanks Kyle I'll check the link you gave me, yes I saw the list you are talking about, Tyler is in remission since 1-24-21 I onky feed him 2 or 3% carbs , most of the ones I see on the list are 5 or higher I would be afraid to feed him higher carbs
Tried weruva, wellness, and soulistic pates and he wouldn't touch them. I don't even know if he would like any that are not pates but I guess I'll have to try them

@tiffmaxee
Now I'm really freaking out , first of all wait until I get a hold of the vet!
He didn't even mention anything about the phosphorus number!
Are you saying you think Tyler has CKD
Just wait until I get a hold of the vet!
When Dr Sass was with the practice I go to she took care of Perry Tyler's brother who had CKD and told me everything, but she left, so I saw the owner who I have seen a long time ago with other cats I had , Now I'm pissed off
@tiffmaxee

What time of day was the urine taken? It's best if done first thing in the morning, as it'll be more concentrated then. If you can catch a morning pee, you can run it to the vet and ask them to check it and measure USG in house. Afternoon pees can be more dilute.

Hi Wendy I'm a nervous wreck now. They did the urine at noon. I'm also worried about his phosphorus number, after what I went through with Perry ,Tyler's brother having kidney disease and died, why the heck didn't the vet mention this to me
The vet I used to see was Dr Sass who left their practice ,she took care of Perry and ran every test on him and always told me everything.
So I saw the owner who I have seen so many times in the past with other cats I had.
The reason I took Tyler was because he was loosing weight.
Vet told me to keep an eye on his weight and if he's still losing he would suggest an abdominal US. Why are his platelets so low?
He didn't mention anything to me and then I pucked up the blood work and saw it, by the time I called back to talk to him he already left
I'm going to call this Monday to talk to him
Can you look at his blood work for me please
I tried weruva, wellness, soulistic wet foods with lower phosphorus than FF pate but he wouldn't touch it .
I'm so nervous now
All of you know so much more than I do when it comes to labs
@Wendy&Neko

Urine taken at noon is not "first thing in the morning", and could be more dilute because he's been drinking and eating recently. Try to get a sample when you first get up, if you can. Depending on a cat's diet, their phosphorus may be higher. FF is not very low P. Try to see if he can eat some lower P foods. Don't switch him cold turkey. Try mixing one spoon into the mix and first, then gradually increase the amounts. Kyle's post in #103 contained a link to a document listing CKD food for diabetics. There are more options than what you have tried. And that same list has the answers for a couple of the Tiki Cat After Dark.
Why are his platelets so low?
Clumped platelets happen all the time, not something to worry about. I swear clumped platelets, causing lower platelet numbers, happen almost 50% of the blood work results I get. This is a quote from what you entered on the Labs tab:
few small plate clumps observed .This may falsely lower the platlet count and estimate

As for other blood work, it's really helpful if you can either bold or change the text red for values that are out of range. I am used to "world" lab values, so something isn't going to jump out at me unless you highlight it.

I agree with the vet to just keep an eye on his weight and maybe an abdominal ultrasound if he keeps losing. Perhaps there is an absorption issue causing him to lose weight that a U/S might detect. A blood test of his B12 might also help - generally the Texas AMU GI panel is a good one.

Thanks so much Wendy I'll try to definitely catch a morning pee, never tried it before
He eats 2 or 3% carbs and I'm afraid if I go higher it will knock him out of remission
Can you see the info Tiki Cat sent me above
No one could see it I forwarded it to Cecile's e mail and then she was able to see it, please can I e mail it to you, they gave me as fed and dry matter . I don't even know which one I should go by. You can pm me your e mail and I can forward it to you, if you rather not that's OK

Edit @Kyle & Simon (GA)
Kyle can you see the info about Tiki Cat in my post #115
If not can I e mail it to you , you can pm me your e mail address and I can forward it to you to look at
Cecile couldn't see it either but when I e mailed her it she could see it

I just can't lose another one to CKD

How can I make the list bigger so you all can see it
I'm sick to my stomach at his phosphorus number

Hey Diane,

I am very glad to hear that Tyler's labs are mostly ok. Cats are so finicky when it comes to food. Whenever I change the recipe of Olive and Ruby's raw food to add a different kind of meat, Olive basically avoids her food for a week in protest. I would try to add some of the lower phos foods in small amounts to Tyler's FF--a small teaspoon food the first time, leaving it on the side of the bowl with the FF so he has the option of either eating it or not. Eventually he'll come to accept it as food and then you add a little more everyday until he is willing to eat a whole bowl of the new food. This is food training for transitioning cats to raw feeding, but it's good advice for whenever you are trying to get him to eat something new.

Hang in there sister. He's gonna be all right. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I shouldn't need to close the thread. Given how active you are and how long you've been here, you are aware of the conventions for posting and can simply redirect people to a new thread. With threads that are this long, very few people are willing to wade through to figure out what's going on.
