9-22 TYLER AMBG-63 UPDATE ON TYLER'S BLOODWORK I ENTERED IT

Diane,

I'm just seeing this report. I'm really praying that Tyler doesn't have kidney disease and that there is a more treatable and short term solution to whatever is causing his weight loss. I know how much you care and worry. Keep us posted on the results of the tests. Big big hugs to you, Auntie Diane. Ruby, Olive and I will be thinking of you. ❤️
Aww thanks Katherine, I just hope it's nothing serious too.
I will definitely keep everyone posted. :bighug::bighug::cat:

Awww... glad you had a nice visit with your dad and that he asked about Ashley. Keep those sweets coming. It makes dad happy!

Hope the weight loss is not an issue. More good thoughts on blood work results.

Hi Lori, Tyler used to weigh 23 lbs, then weighed 16 lbs when he was diagnosed.
I just looked at my notes when I weigh him 1-7-22 thru 8-28-22 his weight would be 14.8, then 15.6, then 14.4
I weighed him on 9-12 it was 14.2. Then at the vets on 9-22 he weighed 13.8

That's why I'm worried, he's never weighed that low.
I'll just have to wait for his labs on Tues.
Thank you Lori :bighug:

Oh visited with my dad today, it was a good day . He knew who I was ,asked about Ashley my daughter. I stayed about 2 hours got there for his lunch, then of course he loves his sweets, I brought him some blueberry pie and cool whip.
You should see all the sweets he has in his room.
Between me, my sister and brother bringing him up stuff it's like a bakery up there :p
Talk to you soon :bighug:
That would scar em e too. I know what u mean by the back end being sunk in, thatis exactly what ares looked like b4 his diagnosis.

But I really hope that he is ok. Im holding out hope for Tyler that it is just something small and NOT something too serious!
Im so glad that your dad recognizes you still and Ashley!!! I pray that her pain will subside altogether!
Hope you have a good night.

Hi everyone My vet just called me and all his blood work came back fine .
No kidney problems , Thyroid is perfect ,everything else is good.
So he told me to keep track of his weight and if he continues to lose the next thing he would suggest is an abdominal Ultra Sound.
So I guess for now that's what I'll do and when I save up enough money I'll get the dental done. I'm going to pick up a copy of the blood work today and I'll add it to his labs. I'll weigh him once a week
Thank you everyone :bighug::bighug::bighug:

And all of you that replied back to me ♥

I'll be entering his labs soon

Thank you for the update @Diane Tyler's Mom! So glad to hear Tyler’s labs are good :bighug:

One thing you might consider in the future - if Tyler is still losing weight - would be a GI panel. This tests for things like vitamin B deficiency. It is very easy to treat and can really help with weight loss. Wishing you and Tyler the best :bighug:

Labs enteted for 9-22-22
One thing I'm worried about is where it says plate count 38 LOW. It was 217 last year, 123 in 2019 and 471 in 2018. The new blood work 9-22-22 was dine at ANTECH
The blood work from 2-11-21 was done at ZOETIS but I didn't change the reference range when I entered them. Probably doesn't make that much of a difference
Then it says Few small platelet clumps observed. This may falsely lower the platelet count and estimate. If you look at his labs the other 3 years of blood work they were in range . I called my vet to question him about but he was gone. He'll be there tomorrow after 6 PM. How could it have dropped that low since last year
Also if you look at his labs under urinalysis complete for Protein it says Trace ( High) I'll talk with him tomorrow , I didn't see this until I picked up his blood work.

Oh good bloodwork is good!
Hoping and praying that his weight evens out!

A low platelet count can be a sign of anemia- but if Tyler’s HCT was okay it could be related to clumping - which can lower platelet values.

Sometimes trace amounts of protein in a urinalysis can be related to blood from cystocentitis (or was this sample from a free catch?) This can sometimes be related to a UTI- was there any sign of bacteria?

Hi Kyle no bacteria at all I entered the labs , HCT was fine. Yes it did mention a few small platelet clumps observed ,said this mayy cause falsely lower the platelet count and estimate. I noted it in his labs. The sample of urine says collection method Cystocentesis .

Let me know what the vet says! Hoping this is all just normal/explainable variation in the labs. If Tyler’s kidney values are good I think that is cause to celebrate!

Hi Diane, what a relief that his labwork is okay! :bighug:

I have only one small feedback. His phophorus at 5.8 is close to the higher end of normal. Tanya's website says that phosphorus of over 6 is too high.
http://felinecrf.org/phosphorus.htm

If he isn't already on a low phos diet, you might want to think about switching him to one.
Hi Bhooma I was thinking about switching him over to weruva food
Going to start checking them out. Thanks Bhooma

Diane, you probably already know about Dr. Lisa Pierson's AWESOME interactive cat food database, but in case not:
https://catinfo.org/chart/index.php

The only hitch is they put the phosphorous in mg instead of %. Under 200 mg is supposed to be ok for CKD.

Chispa LOVES Weruva "On The Cat Wok"!! :cat:

On the Cat Wok was Tina's all time favorite!!

Diane - I hope you can find the right food, nutrition wise, that pleases Tyler. I also hope you can make some relaxing time for yourself:bighug:

Just a warning, in case you didn't know, if you do use phosphorus binders - constipation can be a side effect. Serious for some.

Hi Jan I figured since I just got his blood work back and saw his phosphorus was 5.8 I'd better look for a lower phosphorus food
I'll pick up a few and hopefully he'll like a few of them
I do know about the binder can cause constipation , it happened with Tyler's brother who had kidney disease and passed away on 10-6-21
But thanks for the reminder
That's all I need now is for Tyler to get kidney disease , I'll shoot myself :p
I'll pick up a can of the cat wok today

In that case you may want to try the Tiki After Dark Pate, Herman LOVED it and he is a Fancy Feast Fan. I can't find my notes on the After Dark Pate's (I had written the %'s on the box as it was a variety pack and I threw the box out whoops) I also wrote on the cans but I am down to the last few individual ones, I will check the %'s on those when I go back to the kitchen (in my office now), but, from what I recall there was one or two varieties in the pack at 14% the rest were 3%. I used a calculator like this: https://www.caticles.com/carb-calculator-for-cat-food/ - but someone more experienced than me should probably confirm for you that this calculator is correct - I'd hate to steer you wrong.

Tiki After Dark Pate Variety Pack (fyi they give you the most of the Venisen & Beef Liver so you are best not buying the variety pack) - again - maybe double check the math!
Duck & Chicken Liver Recipe 3.29%
Beef & Beef Liver Recipe 3.18%
Venisen & Beef Liver 12.88%

other than the EZ Complete raw, he gets Weruva BFF Steak Frites, the occasional DM Savory Selects (225 phos) and occasional FF Savory Salmon (265 phos)

they love that FF pate! What do they put in it. It is like crack

That's a very good question. I've tried to switch my boys over to weruva & once we get to full on weruva Panzer turns his nose up to it. Whatever they put in fancy feast that makes them addicted to it they need to stop:p Do you happen to know the carb content in any of the tiki cat? I also may try it but I have been unable to find the carb content in the pate's they have.

I know going to try Tiki cat after dark pates, I emailed them for the information about the carb % and phosphorus . :cat:

They sent me the dry matter basis that's what Bhooma said I need to see

Got a reply from them pates are too high in carbs and that's all Tyler will eat are pates
Don't know what I'll try now

Great that's all Panzer & Spook will eat too!

Hi Diane. I just looked at the urinalysis. A key item is missing. What is the USG? Bhooma is right that the phosphorus is too high. If feeding low phosphorus food and still high it’s time for aluminum hydroxide powder to be added to his food.

There are really good food lists in the FB group feline chronic kidney disease- including one for diabetic cats. Andrew Hall does a great job of keeping them updated. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1aqmnoTbHkDckpbds_4CSn9wi-dBAMJp-

Tyler’s labs look awesome! I don’t think it hurts to start managing phosphorus though. I couldn’t get Simon to eat any of the low phos foods so we just used a binder and it worked fine! Of course this is more important once a cat has CKD which does not describe Tyler :bighug:

I edited this to add an updated link for Andrew’s food lists. These are from 2022: https://www.bizave.com/foodlists/
