Phew...after two horrible mornings with the gelcap in a row over the weekend, much, much, much better pilling both last night and this morning. Last night, the pill went down on the second try, and this morning it went down on the third...both times very smoothly with no hisses, growling, cat fight noises, etc, etc, etc. I have no idea why Saturday and Sunday morning were both so rough, but hopefully we both have our confidence restored now!

My Dad went a full day without dairy, and also went a full day without a stomach ache, so it is looking like he has developed chemo-induced lactose intolerance. They were both very excited that I was able to figure this out for them, and frustrated that the medical staff didn't forewarn them of this possibility. Remember when Nurse Ratchet told my Mom to just use her common sense when it came to nutrition    ??? Needless to say, after being able to eat dairy for 82 years, they never expected my Dad to so suddenly develop an issue. Chemo is a brand new world to them - a little nutritional guidance from the professional staff would be lovely, but obviously we are going to be more on our own with this sort of thing.

Anyway, they are lucky that I have been vegan for so long...I can steer them away from funky non-dairy items and towards the yummy ones, like So Delicious Purely Decadent "ice cream"....this stuff is very Ben and Jerry-ish in quality, without the dairy. Good stuff. I also picked up one of the probiotics that Julie mentioned yesterday. It's a shame patients have to work so hard on their own over this sort of thing when they've already got the cancer battle to deal with! Now that we have that figured out, Round 3 is tomorrow. Hopefully the crash won't be so rough now that we know dairy doesn't work for him right now.

Time to get ready for work...Have a great day, LL!

Re: 9/22 Trixie AMBG 139 "+3" 91 - Good pilling morning

Morning Amy ~O) ~O) ~O)

WOOT! look at Mr P at work. Love that +3 Trixie.

Hooray on the successful gelcap this morning! YaHOO!!! :-D

I am so glad that you have been able to help your dad out with the dietary changes that he needs while undergoing chemo. it is really a shame in some ways that the patient has to be their own advocate, do their own research etc. It would be so nice if the nurses and doctors and nutritionists could have told them. I can see their frustrations. I wish your dad much luck with round 3. Hope it goes well.

Have a great day today. I hope all goes well at TBP.

Re: 9/22 Trixie AMBG 139 "+3" 91 - Good pilling morning

Yay for a good pilling day!!!! I totally understand what a relief that is! :-D :-D :-D I see Ms. P showed up on time this morning. Is your workout schedule theory still holding true?

Did you ask your DF's doctor if you could talk to a nutritionist (instead of Nurse Ratchett)? Might still be a good idea. Of course, you seem to be on top of these things, so maybe he doesn't need anything but a smart, savvy daughter! ;-)

Sending good vines for tomorrow's chemo session. Prayers, too.

Re: 9/22 Trixie AMBG 139 "+3" 91 - Good pilling morning

My workout schedule theory seems to basically be holding true, although today I did put in an "extra early workout"...however, I also tested Trix a little later than I usually do on my extra early workout days - more time for Ms P to get her act together!

Yeah, at this point I actually feel more comfortable figuring out what my Dad needs than trying to find a nutritionist - so far it's pretty straightforward. That's really what my Mom was asking Nurse Ratchett, and Ratchett's answer implied they don't have one on staff. And, on top of that, I think my Dad is having more confidence in me than the staff, plus I don't want to subject him to any more appointments than necessary. He's definitely tired of all the doctor's visits as it is. And, I think I can more easily tailor to his needs than a nutrtionist, since I talk to him just about every day. It seems the human vetty's are no better at nutrition then our feline vetty's are!

I'm glad the pilling went better this morning.

I'm glad you were able to figure out the dairy thing for your dad. It's sad the doctor's staff isn't any more help. They're lucky to have you to help them. I hope Round 3 goes better. Sending more prayers.

Someone was waiting by the back door and hungry when I got home from work today :-D ! She was prepped for a gelcap battle tonight...paws set to bat my hand away, not too thrilled about tilting her head back...but luckily the pill went down on the third try, before any hissing (or worse) commenced. Phew.

good luck on the pilling. they do "eventually" get used to it. but... it takes "cat time" for that to happen but it does happen :-D :-D

Hi Amy!
Yay for the better pilling!
Good girl, Trixie! cat_pet_icon

Amy, you posted about a pill popper yesterday, and I'm not sure if you are still thinking about getting one, but the below is the link to your previous condo where Libby recommended one particular pill popper.

The one I have is the other kind which other people suggested in your yesterday's condo, and for Lucy it didn't work so well.
The pill didn't really "pop", but it sort of "fell".

Sending many vines for your DD.
