This would have been her 9th month anniversary OTJ...
I somehow missed checking her last month....but in August...a spot check 7/19 PM+4=78
so i was totally knocked over this morning when I checked her for her anniversary condo....

AMBG=274
+8=248
PMBG=254

We will be going to the vet tomorrow for blood work. Last month she had a bladder infection and was on ABs for 2 weeks. She has been acting fine and I never suspected anything. Dental was last March so I am wondering if there is something going on in her mouth. We will check it out...
Meanwhile, I am wondering about what to dose to start her on...I am guessing that she needs insulin at some point but do I wait to find out about the blood work?

She is still ready to party tonight....I am not so much....oh well..
Your thoughts are welcome as always...

Hey Raja, I see that you and me are visiting LL for a while, huh. Sounds like you are gonna get some much needed juice soon. That's ok, my frienz, da juice will make us feel bedder, you know. Mebbie you won't be on it to long. But like Kate and Dyana said, if you gotta be somewhere, you may as well be somewhere that's fun!!! I hope dat your trip to da vettiebean will help figure out what's going on with you, Raja. That will at least make your bean feel better knowing what is wrong. I hope you will feel bedder enough to go to the party tomorrow, tho! ............Spot

Ugh, is all I can say, Pat. I know all to well how you are feeling right now...but maybe it's just something little that can be taken care of in a week and Raja will be back to the falls in no time. Spot is glad to have company, if that's any help

:YMHUG: Oh, thank you my friends! A WEEK Deb? :o LOLOLOL
Miss Smarty Pants must have something going on....what am I going to do now? :YMSIGH: It's no consolation to me that I did this with both of them back from Aug~Nov. The new petsitter is coming tomorrow...I am leaving the following weekend...THIS is totally not in the plan Raja!!!
poor little baby....

OH my dear Pat!! Who could have known? Maybe this is juat a transient event & ab's or a little insulin just for a bit, will bring her back--
You know my first vet called it a honeymoon when a cat goes OTJ, some for good, some on & off at times--
Hey Dont be glum my friend, it may just be a passing thing--Vet will be able to check it out!
I know how bad you must feel, but all is not lost! Wait till all the facts are in..OK? Giant Hugs!!

You are right Roni...wait till the facts are in. But, if she needs it, she needs it....
I feel bad that I didn't test her earlier.... Stupid dumb mistake....

When people going OTJ ask how often they should test....I always say that testing is a great way to make sure nothing is going on...because infections and inflammations will raise the BGs. Here is proof that it works since I would never be thinking of taking her to the vets otherwise! Her numbers were high and that signals that something is wrong. Possibly, there is an infection. So I will rule that out first. This may have been a blessing in disguise.

An excellent reminder that we all must be vigilant...even if we are OTJ...
Wishing only good things for Raja...
Debie & Jezebel...

i know the sinking feeling... the feeling like you've been kicked in the gut. the good news is you're on this right away. yes, have blood work drawn. have her teeth checked. have them draw urine via cystocentesis for urinalysis and C&S. the two weeks on abs may have not been enough to clear the bladder infection. it's not unusual to need another round of abs. also have them run a T-4 and a free T4 (ED).

i think i'd start her at 0.25u bid since she was on such a low dose before. however, the best thing i can suggest is to be aggressive with dosing. check out alex's 2009 lev ss (the first time she went back on the juice). between treatment (dental) and aggressive dosing, i was able to pull alex's numbers down to the normal range in less than 2 weeks. this was after starting out with a dose that was too low.

click on the 2009 tab at the top of the page.

the sooner you can bring her numbers down and take care of whatever is causing the high numbers, the better chance you have of her going otj again.

i'm so sorry. this sucks.

((((((((Pat)))))))) ((((((((Raj))))))))

Just a blip in the road....we all have them. Once you get the report from the vet you'll know what you're dealing with. Of course the timing sucks.

JILL RULES!

Well, this stinks. On the other hand, the fact that you tested, got an unexpected result, and will get Raja to the vet to be checked out hopefully means you've caught a correctable problem early.

well, crappus. But you're going out of town? There's your mistake, you made plans. Silly, you should have known Raja would not approve of that.

Hopefully a vet visit and a few teeny shots will get her back to the falls quickly.

I'm sorry Pat. But, Raja is such a sweet girl that she wanted to join her brother...he thinks you might be disappointed in him and she doesn't want him to feel bad (it's okay when SHE gets mad at him, but not anybody else!).

So sorry, Pat! But everyone is right, it might just be a little blip, the infection not cleared up, another round of AB and a little juice may get her quickly back to the Falls. Good luck at the vet!

Aww, so sorry to see this, but at least we know she is in excellent hands here and you have everything you need to get her back on track again. Hope you get some answers from the blood work and she's back to the falls quickly.

Pat so sorry to hear this maybe the bloodwork will show something going on, if not then maybe it will be a brief trip away from the falls ((((HUGS))))

((Pat))
What can I say. I hope everything will turn out okay for your sweet Raja.
Don't beat yourself up for not testing her earlier.
They are sneaky and I understand how easy it is to get a little lax on the testing.
I had not tested max in a while and he made peepee on the floor the other day (yes again)
so out came the meter.
We are okay for now but I must stay vigilant too.

Big hugs to you and Raja and Shadow.
Healing vines that this will pss quickly.

shadow...give raja some of these:

dang ... I'm sorry you are dealing with this now .. but hopefully you can get her into the vet, they can do a full check up on her and figure out what's causing these high numbers. I'm sure a few shots and she'll be OTJ again before you know it!

Oh Pat...we're so sorry that Raja's BG is up!! Thankfully you caught it!! We hope it is just a one-time thing and she gets back down really soon!! Come on Raja...think green, darling.

Ah heck. Sorry this is happening but kudos to you for picking up on it so fast. It's good that you can get Raja checked out tomorrow. Hoping for a real quick trip back to the Falls. Maybe she just wants to go to the Ball tomorrow night. Silly girl Raja I'm sure Shadow would have taken you along even if you weren't back on the juice.

Raja??? No - not Raja! Well crappus is right - but so very good that you did catch it. Kudos to you for being on top of it all. Don't beat yourself up over not testing her sooner - you did now, and that is all that matters. I hope the vet can figure out any other problem if they are there, and go forward. Hey - she could be off the juice again in no time. Hugs to you both!

Pat
I wanted to pass on lots of hugs from Ronnie.
She texted me that her computer was down and I told her about Raja.
That's why she did not visit.

((((hugs)))) from Ronnie

(((((((Pat))))))) Bummer! But you caught it in good time and I'm sure that Raja will be OTJ again very soon. It's good that she'll see the vet tomorrow and get some tests. She won't like visiting the vetty bean, but she'll be OK. Stu knows all about tests and he says: not to worry, Raja! And your girl is very spunky. So please try to get a good night's sleep. The kitties will all be quiet as they decorate. And those decorations will make Raja feel better just seeing them.

Many hugs, and please don't worry. Had you considered that the equinox and the full moon may be an influence here? Full-moon wonkiness is real, I have heard.

Ella & Stu

(((Pat))) - I'm so sorry girl. maybe this is still gonna be the UTI thing. and right here before your trip. prolly makes you just sick that you have to leave her right now. you don't think it is just the Harvest Moon Ball she's excited about? I wish that's all it was. We'll all be on pins and needles until you get back from the vet tomorrow. wonder if you're sleeping right now or if you're up fretting over our dear girl. I am holding you and sweet Raja close in my heart. I'm so sorry.

BLAGH! Here is to hoping that urinary tract infection just didn't clear up and a round of antibiotics will get Raja back down to normal.

omg Pat, I had to read the subject line several times to comprehend this. I'm so sorry to hear this, and the timing is horrible, but Muffin and I are keeping fingers and paws crossed that this is short-lived. I agree with everyone else, good job catching it early.

Bummer, but I don't think it's anything to worry about (another blip  ) I agree it's just something going on (infection etc.) treat it from both sides and you'll be good to go in no time. Raja is an easy study :-D I think this happens to most diabetics (all species) sometimes, they are never 100% cured and anything upsetting thier metabolism ( infection, injury, diet change) can cause thier faulty pancreas to strike.

Trying to catch up on condo's after my eventful evening....I was right there with Anne, had to re-read the subject and was like ??? Raja??? I'm soooooo sorry to hear this Pat!! But at least you've caught it and are taking the right steps to figure out what's going on. I wish you the best and as with everyone else will be anxious to hear what the vet says. :YMSIGH:

((((Pat))))

awwww crap crud pooh!

Alright I got it out of my system, waiting all nite to see whats happened, but puter crashed and Im back on today yai!
Thanks Randi for passing on my crash news.

Pat, you know everyone's here for you, you're a wonderful mom to your sugar kitties, and Raja is in excellent hands with you.
Me too, hoping it is just a blip and Raja will get back on that plane to the Falls where she belongs, how dare she come back now?!

((((((hugs))))

I also wanted to mention Spooky has had a blip (1 or 2 times) as well. A few months ago he was sick for about 2-3 days (? mild pancreatis attack?) he threw up everything and was lip licking and "meatloafing" alot. his BG was only checked 1 time and he was over 120 (don't remeber exactly 150-180 I think) I didn't check again until several weeks after he was back to normal and it was right back in low range.

Pat, my first thought was a sinking feeling, until I realized this could be the best thing for Raja, that you caught something early, like an infection. The uti may not have been fully cured, or maybe a little thing going on in her mouth. I know it's hard, but please try not to worry until you get her bloodwork and vet check.
Hopefully, this number(s) is just a short little stumble, and she'll be on the road back to the Falls.

Im so sorry Pat! I am hoping that this is just a fluke and Raja may just have a minor infection that can be taken care of with some antibiotics. I'll be thinking about you guys today. Come back down Raja! cat_pet_icon

I'm very sorry to hear about Raja, but I'm glad you found it quickly and that you can get to the vet so soon. I hope she just needs some abs to get back on track. I'm sending healing vines to Raja.
