Ebby's favorite color today is yellow. Better than pink I guess.

?? Does anyone know why a small, hard bump forms near the insulin injection sight? I noticed this after last night's shot. Doesn't always happen, but I've noticed it a handful of times before. I thought I remember reading somewhere the insulin wasn't absorbed properly if this happens. If so, what can I do to avoid this?

I've never had that happen (yet). Are you rubbing the area good after shooting to help dissipate the insulin? Might help.

Come on Ebby..You can do better than yellows!! Blues and greens are pretty colors too!!

Nope. Do NOT do that. it actually can have a negative impact on insulin absorption. Lantus forms microcrystals that are deposited in the fat tissue. You do not want to rub/massage the injection site.

The term for these bumps is lipohypertrophy. It's basically an accumulation of fat tissue. You should try to rotate the injection site. These bumps should go away if you don't keep injecting in the same area. It is possible that it's scar tissue but it's less likely. If you're concerned, have your vet take a look.

I haven't been rubbing the area, just gently touching the fur to make sure it wasn't a fur shot. I also try to rotate between three spots, but last week I think I used one spot a few times in a row. Maybe that's what did it.

They are very small (like the tip of a ballpoint pen) and do go away, I just wanted to make sure I was injecting properly. My imagination had me thinking maybe there was a bunch of unused insulin sitting in the bump. :roll: Glad to know that's not the case.

Our imaginations sure can screw with us can't they? Every time China does something "out of the ordinary", I start analyzing it...maybe she's going hypo? Maybe she's limping? Maybe she's "fill in the blank___"....we can really drive ourselves crazy!

Good to know about the insulin Sienne. I'm used to other shots from vaccines.
