Gizmo, Beenie says "hi"

Low 100's on AT is a nice nadir. Come on back down nice and easy Gizmo. Did you ever get the IAA results? I likely missed it.

No IAA results yet. Just talked to the vet. The techs called to check and msu sent the same results again. He said they obviously didn't understand what the problem was. So they are trying again today.

He also told me that the cabergoline is proving to be very expensive. A 10ml vial is $200 and that would only last Gizmo 15 days. So we are looking at $400 a month plus the cost of the IGF-1 tests. I am going to try contacting the online place that was mentioned to see if cheaper. I think it was diamondback? I believe he told me Gizmo would need 70 micrograms based on his weight (and that's just the starting dose of 10 micrograms per kilogram - that could increase to 15 micrograms per kilogram). This is all a bit overwhelming right now. Does this sound right to those who are using it? Any suggestions?

Sounds way too high. Beenie was just at 10lbs. I called the compounding pharmacy that I use today for someone else and they do ship all over. http://www.crossriverpharmacy.com/. A lot on FDMB use Diamback in Arizona. http://www.diamondbackdrugs.com/

I pay $69 for a 30 day supply. @Jadi & Tiffany got is for less at Diamnondback so there are less expensive options than $200.

Do you have pet insurance? My insurance actually picked it up so we're fortunate (80%). I do pay a hefty premium for three cats but that's what insurance is for after all, the unexpected.

NEVER get meds from a vet if you can avoid it. Their markup is over 100%. You should google "compound pharmacy" plus your town name or closest city. Call them and ask for a quote. The cost should be around 100US or less, give or take. All the compound pharmacy will need is a script from your vet. If your vet won't give you one, then find a vet that will.

Thanks for the info. I contacted diamondbackdrugs and requested a quote. I will contact crossriveroharmacy also. My husband is going to call around to local compounding pharmacies tomorrow. Although ... it really sounded as if the vet already did that, but it is possible the price was then marked up. Gizmo is 14 lbs. I do not have pet insurance...although this has been an eye opener.:woot:

Did you check out the cabergoline discussion on the high dose forum? Prices and doses listed there.
I am watching that thread, but for some reason my alerts aren't always working anymore. So I missed a lot of the recent discussion, but my husband looked at the thread tonight and told me there was a lot of info posted. So I glanced at it, but going back to read more carefully now that the kids are in bed.

I already asked the vet if I could get the prescription filled anywhere and he said absolutely if you can find it cheaper. After everything I've been through with vets this summer, this one is a keeper. Gizmo's only been there once (almost a month ago), but the vet probably has called us once a week since then.

And now we bounce ... :(

I had all intentions of increasing some tonight (just wasn't sure about 6.75 units or 7 units) and then he threw me a blue preshot (and a 106 nadir) and I thought well this is exciting. :cat:

Nope ... wrong ... just boring, overrated sleep tonight - lol:p
