9/20 China...back from the vet (PMBG 142)

Well, the vet agrees with me that China looks miserable (DUHHH)

She says the inside of her mouth looks good....no sign of infection or anything. She has lost over a pound (she needs to lose it, but this isn't the way to do it!!)

She thinks that she's having a hard time processing the anesthesia drugs even though they used drugs that are supposed to clear quickly. She was dehydrated so got 150mls of fluid and a shot of Cerenia just in case she's nauseous.

She also said "Let's not give her any more of the Simbadol since this is the second time she's reacted badly to it" (Another DUHHHHH) …..but she DID note it on her record.

She doesn't want me to give her any bupe (although she's never had any trouble from the oral stuff in the past)…….Not sure what I think of this since she's obviously still in pain (in my opinion) ….when I can get her to take a tiny lick of something, she still acts like her mouth doesn't work right.

Just tried a little food again and got about 2 licks of chicken baby food before she made it very obvious she was done. She didn't go for it like she wanted it as much as I put a little on her "lips" and when she licked it off, she took another couple of small licks.

She has finally gone to the litter box to pee...she hadn't peed since she'd been home from the dental....she's also still "leaking" a little of the fluids.

She looks awful....her shiny white coat is dull and dirty from all the drool. At some point, I think she's going to have to have a bath to get her cleaned up, but I'm sure not going to do it while she feels this bad!!

If she still hasn't eaten by tomorrow morning, she'll have to go back and get some IV fluids. I don't know how I'm going to be able to pay for something like that but I guess I'll find a way.

I did lock the cabinet doors so she can't get back under the sink. Easier for me to keep my eyes on her that way.

Appreciate all the prayers, vines and good wishes you send our way!!!

Hugs, good thoughts, prayers and vines to you both :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

I hope she will surprise you very soon by suddenly being - and eating - like her usual self. Please keep us posted.

Tons of prayers from us. I know older kitties can have a hard time with anesthesia...nausea and weird reactions. My civvie Frankie had a dental in May and she didn't sleep for over 28 straight hours after the procedure...pacing, couldn't stop moving, and just wired and weird.

The drool does make me think China is nauseated, so hopefully the cerenia will help. Would she be receptive to syringe feeding? Vines and prayers and hugs continue....

Time to rally, China! The lagoon needs its Meisterin!!

Chris, I hope that by tomorrow your girl will be feeling much better. Sending a beautiful bouquet of healing vines for China and lots of :bighug::bighug::bighug:s for you.

I hope she turns the corner soon and starts to eat for you. Have you tried Florti Flora sprinkled on top. I can usually get Bubba to eat with that and /or baby food.

More vines and prayers. It did take Max a few days to bounce back after his last dental but this is different. Did you get a copy of the labs by any chance? Does your receipt show what was used for induction?

Chris, you might have to syringe a little food if she’s not eating by tomorrow.

If you need to clean her a bit (gently), I find these unscented cat wipes at PetCo work well for my kitties, although I typically use two at a time. My kitties don't appreciate the scented ones. I hope China feels better soon! :bighug:

Still not eating anything.....won't even lick at her favorite lickable treat :(:(:(

Guess I'd better plan on driving back to Jefferson City in the morning:arghh:

Latest labs are on the spreadsheet

They used Propofol this time instead of Ketamine and Isoflurane gas

Not sure about propofol but the gas they wake up from real fast. I doubt the anesthesia would still be in her. Get some feeding syringes from your vet just in case. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Looks to me like stage 2 CKD and it should not be causing nausea. It has to be the dental and likely the injection. Hopefully it will be worn off in the morning.

I am so hoping it's the drugs and that they'll wear off by morning so sweet China will get back to eating and feeling better.
Sending more vines and hugs :bighug:

They look good (imo). The phosphorus is high but you knew that. Higher phos can make thrm feel icky. The SDMA is elevated too, I wonder if the stress of the dental has flared her pancreas.

I truly hope the report this morning is she is esting and feeling much better :bighug:

@LizzieInTexas - SDMA is a test for kidney disease, not pancreatitis. (You're thinking of fPL)

Did the vet say anything about the post-procedure X-rays? Things might "look" fine but clearly something is off.

It is pretty easy to give fluids at home. A bag of fluids is pretty inexpensive. You just need the lines and harpoon (needle).

I think Sienne is right. Either teeth or pancreatitis very likely. I’m thinking teeth though as cerenia should help with nausea from pancreatitis. It could be a combo of both. Have vet do SNAP test in house if he/she thinks possible.

So sorry to hear China is still not feeling well. Have you ever used CBD oil? When Ravan stopped eating I put 4-5 drops in baby food & gave it to him in a feeding syringe (only about a teaspoon with water added)

Within a few hrs he was eating. It's supposed to help with pain & nausea also. I now give all three of my cats a few drops a day. It really works good (for my Kitties) to increase their appetite .

You can save a lot of money giving sub Q yourself. THe videos show you how & it gets easier each time you do it.

Healing thoughts & energy to you & China! :) :bighug:

No recommendations of some mirtazipine to increase her appetite? I have never heard of a poor reaction to Buprenorphine like you described, that stinks! Usually it's the ketamine that can cause lasting effects. (I read they used propofol for induction and iso though)
And I agree, you can save a lot of money doing the fluids SQ at home, and you can save her some stress!

Best of luck to you both!
