Good Morning LL! HAPPY FRIDAY!!!

I'm so excited about Bob's numbers - I saw the BLUE!!! Probably shouldn't be because who knows what will happen tomorrow, but I reduced the dry food and increased his insulin and he did pretty well. I wasn't ever getting good numbers on him because he was taking his time eating the dry so I never knew what numbers were affected by the food. Now each kitty gets 1/8 cup and they are so hungry they eat it all right away and then graze on the wet the rest of the day. I really expected a bounce this am, so very excited not to see one.

I just want to make sure they are getting enough calories. I'm putting out 1/8 cup of Orijen dry so that would be 60 calories x 3 cats x twice a day = 360 calories. then I put out two full cans of Wellness Turkey which is 218 x 2 = 436. So, total of 796 calories divided by 3 kitties equals approximately 265 calories each. And they are beyond lazy so it sounds like they are getting enough calories. Anyone disagree with that? They could all stand to lose a little weight, especially Penelope and Hector.

Bob was in a great mood this morning. I think he had just finished off the wet food from the night before so he didn't want to eat at first. I played with him and his string for about 5 minutes and then he went to eat. Seems to be doing better - didn't hear any hairball noises last night so that's good. Maybe the coconut oil kicked in.

I hope everyone has a great Friday! I am ready to be done with work and start my weekend!!! Thoughts and prayers to all kitties and beans in need.

What a nice, sunny start for Bob this morning. I hope the new feeding schedule works out for all of your kitties.

"beyond lazy"
Do you have a baby scale? The calorie count will get you in the ballpark of the right amount of food but weighing each week will let you know if you need to adjust the food. You don't want them to lose too fast, that's bad for the liver. And I LOOOOOOVE the better numbers!!! :-D :-D

I don't but I think I'll order one right now so I have it. I keep meaning to get one and the thought just flies out of my head, never to return....

:-D :-D :-D :-D on seeing BLUE! We got excited about seeing it again yesterday too.

Cats need 20 to 30 calories per pound of ideal weight per day, depending on their activity level. So, 265 calories would be good for a 13.25 lb inactive cat for maintenance. If you want them to lose weight it needs to be done slowly as Liz said, no more than 1% to 2% per week. Dr Lisa's weight loss calorie formula is "13.6 X optimal lean body weight in pounds] + 70". This is a starting point, you may need to reduce the calories a little if they aren't losing weight. I'd ask you vet what he thinks they should weigh.

YIIIPPPPEEEEEE

way to go bob!!! I love to see bob feeling good .....no more hot dry nose Bob.

I never ever paid any attention to Tom's nose before...and now ever since you give us Bob nose updates....I am constantly feeling Tom's nose....

I hope the coconut oil did the trick. Have you tried just adding it to his food....oh wait....never mind....you don't want to mess with a good thing at the moment!! yikes
