It is my bean's fav! SWEET! OH! No worries, a dollop of peppermint and vanilla and chocolate and caramel swirl ice cream, on top of a dollop of fudge, sprinkled with peppermint chips and a chocolate caramel drizzle.... Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh....... mega good!
I hope everyone had a great day yesterday, and a great week. The days with the boys have been good ones! We have been very busy, that part of life has not changed. Will it ever? ;-) What a BUSY week! Truth be told, I prefer it that way.
We have been swimming, and hiking, and to beaches, and urban parks and rivers. We have had lunches on the river, car camping some too, and on grassy lawns picnic style. These days are wonderful ones. I love it when Nicholas says: I have had the best day grammie. Me too little man! Life is good!
Fall is upon the boys, with their scheduling and activities. Last week was the first full week of all the adjustments. It actually went fairly well. Swimming has moved to Mondays and Wednesdays for Nicholas. William has started on a regular schedule too. Right now he will be swimming on Mondays (this may move to Tuesdays), and Thursdays. Nicholas will be in Pre-School Tuesday and Thursdays, in the morning. When he is in school William will be at the pool. The timing of this worked out well on Thursday, my first official day of trying that out. it was great to see that Nicholas did not mind that little bro was in the pool without him. YAY! I have been showing him William's photos when I pick him up from school. His comment: " He did really good Grammie. I am so proud of him".
Mondays will be at this point a joint swim day, with Nicholas and William both there in the morning. Bob, one of the other grandparents will he there to take on William, while I have Nicholas. We will see how this arrangement goes. I have a feeling I will end up being there on my own, as Bob really isn't into swimming, and to do this jointly may cause alot of confusion for both boys, from an attitude perspective alone. Time will tell. This past monday went OK. Nicholas enjoyed having his other grandpa in teh pool. William was just glad to be there. Friday will be our new free and travel day, with no obligations for the boys, except to have fun, whether we are at a river, the aquarium, wherever. Yahoo on that! My hike day at this point moves to Tuesdays which means all my social stuff moves to Monday afternoons. shesshhh! I need a calendar!  anyways... onwards! and bring on the adjustments that Fall season always brings. Week One went very well!
Monday, ,Wednesday, Thursday and Friday Night were our swimming days this week. That's alot of pool time! William went Monday and Thursday, Nicholas Monday, Wednesday and Friday nght. Summer scheduling within the pools schedules is finally complete (!!) and we are done with fall maintenance and pool closures. Going forward this coming week, all are open and ready for swimmers! AND!!! The big pool also reopened! Nicholas was more than elated. Nicholas still loves going, and continues to do well in the pool. He's been making lots of new friends when he goes. it's fun to see him connect up with kids when he gets there. Nicholas and I will continue to swim on Friday night, as he so loves that experience, at a pool that is not his normal pool. They have been very fun times for him. We are still trying to "convince" Nicholas that swim lessons would be great, but he is adamant that he does not want to do them. silly boy! All in good time. In the meantime I teach him what I can, and marvel at how well he does on his own. Nicholas has been trying very hard to swim what one considers a normal swim: big arms, kicks. last night he made several laps in the lazy river, trying to do just that. Not too badly either! He spent what was close to 20 minutes at the Snohomish pool on Friday night jumping in, swimming out to me a, swimming back to the wall, and repeating that process over and over again. All on his own. Awesome! Pool time with William was great. He has taken to this just like his brother did. He loves all he did. We did all we could just to let him try everything. We even had a few dunks under water, those he didn't mind, no fuss, no tears, no fear. I put him trough the same "drills" I did with Nicholas, we stayed about an hour, until he was tired. We had a few tries with blowing bubbles in the water, with alot of success. It is so great to see that he doesn't mind putting his face in the water, even did a few on his own. Success I think. This should be fun. GO NICK! GO WILLIAM!
Nicholas still looks forward to our after swim Friday Night Burger Feast.
That is just so fun: burgers and fries, just him and me, with lots of fun stories. He was so happy to see that burger and fries combo show up. Somehow I think that is part of the magic of Friday night swims: that he gets burgers etc after his swim. Yesterday we again talked about our week, swimming in the rivers, at the beaches, and last weeks visit to the Skykomish River in Gold Bar. He was really into that discussion, as we had spent the day swimming in it, with a few fish. He does remember last year in October when we went to the same river, and watched the big fish do their annual run. I so hope to repeat that again this year. He also talked alot about summer swim schedules, and the changes coming this fall. He still talks about his camping trip with his family, and wants to go back.
What fun time, talking through mouthfuls full of burgers and fries.
Nick's Pics continue!. He still loves the camera, takes them from time to time. this week he wanted to take a few of the the Scriber Lake trail, during our lake visit yesterday. Not too bad! I love his perspective on things, how he changes angles to get a different picture. creative! ;-) He also asked one morning to take some while he was en-route to my house. Love those: interesting what he chooses to take pics of.
Monday morning, after the boys swim time, I spent a little time on the local trail there by the pool: the Mesika trail. It was sunny, I had an hour or so, so went for a nice woods walk. It was a great way for me to unwind from a morning of teaching the other grandparents how to work with very young children in the pool. The boys are also very fond of this trail too. There still are lots of blackberries for the picking.
Tuesday was a hiking day for me.
I was out early at 5AM, and not back til late at 7PM.... I-) @-)
and that left no time for the Board and condos. I missed you guys! I hiked the Chain Lakes Hike. The hike itself was great. wow, to die for scenery topside. This trail is part of the Mt Baker area, and has some excellent hiking trails, excellent views. Another hike where I was out early at 5AM, and not back til late at 7PM....
I elected to complete the loop hike this trip there,a nd completed it as planned. YaHOO! I do enjoy that hike, the views are great, the lakes are rally nice, so... a good decision. I tried a new route out. usually I hike up to the saddle, and then hike out the way I came. Today I went over the saddle, down to another set of lakes, and then back up to my starting point. OMG... That last leg out, maybe .7 of a mile (?), Called Wild Goose, is nothing but UP UP UP UP UP and then some more UP. and steep. One of those where every inch of my person was dripping sweat, the kind that stings the eyes. sheshhhh. That was crazy, but I did make it and am no worse for wear when I got home. Hike was about 8 miles, climbed maybe 1700 total. I sweat a 1000 of that had to be that last leg out. anyways - a really great time on Baker, I feel great, the drive was awesome. Road trips alone, do such wonders for my well being. There is freedom there somehow. The drive along SR 542 is very very pretty.
Wednesday afternoon, after swimming, was spent at a local park we have found. Meadowdale Park continues to be a favorite of Nicholas's. The playground equipment is really nice, with good challenges for him, and well there is that zip line.    That thing is so fun. Nicholas just loves it. He has been trying to master for some time now an item called the corkscrew. It rises about 15 feet up, one can climb it, and then slide down following the curved tube that makes the corkscrew. Now that he finally has this one down pat, he spent alot of time on it. Next he says he will b a pro at the monkey bars. COOL! He is so thrilled that he can do three of the bars now. GO NICK! He continues to make new friends during our visits there, it is nice that he is willing to play with whomever he meets there. It is so great to be able to watch him play with boys his own age. or even older for that matter. They run and climb on everything. The laughs for them are endless. William watches it all, trying so much to be part of the group. He has discovered that slides are really fun, so I spent some time with him letting, with help, him slide on down. ;-) It is so wonderful that we can find such great places to visit so close to home. Great times for the boys!
Thursday Afternoon, after William's swim, and Nicholas's school we were off to a river park in Bothell. it has been some time since we have been at this park, we all have missed it. They too have a nice playground area , and well as a good river trail walk, with a few access points where the boys can get down to waters edge. it is always fun to be able to do that there, as the ducks come and visit every time. we got lucky with the weather that day too, as it had rained all morning By tithe time we made the park, the sun was beginning to show, lasted for a few hours, and disappeared as we were leaving. Nicholas wanted to walk some of the trail too. The fall colors there are starting to show. Really nice! We found a wetlands area, there there were a few heron. that was fun, and a new first for Nicholas. William was content with all the sticks and rocks and fallen leaves he found. Way too funny, but cool too.
Friday, after Nicholas's DR appt (another problem with one of those warts he has), and a morning walk at Scribers Lake to see the ducks, afterwards we went to Juanita Beach. The weather was great by then, the afternoon was turning into a warm afternoon, like 80 (!!), so off we went! We did all of what he goes there for. Lots of play, and it was warm enough that both boys could swim and/or play in the water. Both had such fun with that. William continues to love the very small waves, and had a blast. They both built beach lakes and rivers. Nicholas would start one, William would come in and mess it all up. SPLASH SPLASH SPLASH!   WHAT FUN! WHAT A MESS he was after that.   They both were! William has really developed a fondness for it all, he just gets so excited when he sees the parks, the beaches, the rivers, He is so very much like his brother when he was that age. He just loved it. Nicholas did a very good job too making sure little bro was doing OK. We also had a small picnic after our beach and park time. All around - really a terrific day. I bet both those boys slept well that night. AWESOME time at the beach. OH! LOTS of ducks too. Another family had brought food for the ducks, and were kind enough to share with nicholas. he had them eating out of his hand.

I am sitting here this morning, just like last week, trying to think what to write about the kitties.... and just like last week, thinking alot too about Mannie, and all the adventures he planned to for all the LL kitties. I so miss those days, and the fun, and relief from all the FD and the stress that comes with it. AT the risk of being repetitive, this is what I wrote last week - and will repost, as it really was much the same this week, even the part about Nicholas and Mannie. Yesterday was an interesting day in that Nicholas wanted to talk about Mannie. He has another infection in a wart on his arm, so we were en-route to meet his mom,a d take him tot he DR, for what turns out to be another round of anti-biotics. He was talking about the DR, and then asked me: "Grammie, what happened to Mannie?" oh boy.... what a loaded question that was. It told him it was time, a year and a half ago, for Mannie to leave, and go live in his Special Garden. To which he said: "He had bad bugs? In his blood and stuff? " so started a discussion on sickness, and bad bugs, and being gone. He talked about his kitty Serval who crossed to the Bridge a few months ago, and how she had bad bugs, and was gone. He then said "I think she has found Mannie, and his Special Garden. Somehow I bet she has. It was incredible to me how logical he was on it all, how understanding he was on illnesses that take kitties from us, and how relieved he was that they have this special place that they go to. He talked alot abut Mannie after that, and how much he misses him. Hard to believe that he is only 3.5 years old. so.... Nicholas, this is for you, one of my favorite Mannie and Nicholas videos. You guys were the bestest of buddies, and I know you will alwyas remember your first and best buddy.
BEST BUDDIES! Nicholas and Mannie....

The kitties are all doing well. Fall is coming, and I swear they know it. Hibernation mode has begun, at least for Elsa and Bug. I don't think that Lola knows what they means. She still is wild crazy Lola, into anything and everything. William is fascinated with her, follows her all over the house. He tries to pet, she is gentle when the paw is raised, never any claws, just a gentle "uh no" ;-) Nicholas still plays with her: she is a cat dancer fan for sure. Bug continues to watch over Nicholas when he sleeps here, not so much William. What a gentle soul he is. Elsa is ding well. I can remember writing last week how I never worry when she goes out, as she always stays in her yard. Famous last words as they say.... She went exploring the other night, did not come home until well after dark. sheshhhh.... she has been grounded, and least for any time after noon. It is getting to be that time of year when outside will be a distant memory. I can remember when Mannie was still with us, and I'd go hiking and how stressful it could be at times to be sure I was home in time for test-feed-shoot. Some of these distance hikes were a challenge and I'd always be rushing to make it home in time. Inevitably came those times when i was late. I'd walk into the door and Mannie, BJ and Elsa (this was before Lola and Bug), would all be waiting at the top of the stairs, right by the door entrance to the house. All there would be pacing. Mannie had this "YOU'RE LATE" dance he'd do. Bj would be hollering "WHERE"'S MY DINNER!!" and Elsa would be sitting there with "that look"   All three of them would produce this blood oath that I had signed way back on the occasion on my first home late, where I swore I'd never ever be late again, or pay the consequences. sheshhhh, they were tough! Tuesday night was just like that, what with me being 2 hours late for dinner! DH had fed them, but they still knew I was late. There they sat, blood oath in their paws.....    Sorry kitties. somehow it all fits with Normalcy in MusketeerVille! Kitties are good, and All are sound asleep as I write this.... Stay good kitties!" Normalcy in MusketeerVille!

Have a great caturday everyone. Sorry this post it late today. I have spent the morning at an open water mile race for my sons DGF. She won her division! Kudos to Sydney who swam that mile in open water, with cold temps, and a strong current, in 24 minutes. WOW, impressive! I am off in a few for an afternoon walk in the woods. The day has turned sunny, and warm. WOOT!
