Another decent night. Harley has begun sleeping with me after his +7.5 snack which I love. Pharmacy did not have new bottle ready yesterday, but I can pick it up today. Last two nights Harley has had blues at 7.5 and (knock on wood) no huge numbers after that.

great report! I love it when kitties are willing to sleep with us ... and this low yellow is a great way to start the day!

hi pattie. happy to hear you've initiated discussion with your vet about having the acro test done. be sure to have him test for IAA, too. it's only another $15. may as well do it all at once. there's no sense in having to go back for another blood draw for the IAA test.

it doesn't surprise me your vet is reluctant to test. most vets think high dose conditions are extremely rare.
is he aware of the high dose (6-8-12 units) harley was on a year ago... and how you were shooting R three times a night to pull harley's numbers down?

A pretty good day for Harley. Not too many treats. I did give 1/2 container of FF appetizer and bg shot up tonight. I wonder if there is some carb lurking there. He is acting better. One strange thing - he is beginning to squeak when he sees me with food. It is not a meow - it is a squeak, like a mouse...kinda cute. He ended up in the pink tonight.

awww, the squeak is just too cute.

You asked yesterday if the GH test at U of Minn would diagnose acromegaly. I think the GH test and the IGF-1 test are related, they both measure growth hormones but they but measure different hormones. From a little bit of quick reading on human medical websites, it looks like the IGF-1 stays constant throughout the day, while the GH level can vary. Here is one link: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/acrome ... -diagnosis

I think it is very possible that Harley does not have acromegaly, but I would still want to get it checked out. I do think he should have the IAA test, and if you're paying shipping for that then it makes sense to go ahead and do both.

I did email Harley's vet at the U to ask for both tests to be done. I have not heard back yet, but she may be on a long weekend like his primary vet is. I will keep you updated on the answer.
