Not long after my post yesterday Bailey went into the meatloaf position in the house. Looked miserable. Didnt want any treats. Not a good sign so I gave him a pepcid and he perked right up about 30 minutes later. I guess he needs them. How long can I give him pepcid a/c for?

I dont like him being on anything like that long term but he is miserable without it and its not like I can stop the enzymes as he will literally starve to death. And I cant reduce the enzymes either - he already is getting 1/2 what is needed and is barely tolerating that.

Today he is back to normal. Havent given him the pepcid yet - maybe I will dose as and when required - hopefully not daily. Still would like to know about long term use of pepcid a/c though.

I don't know on the long term Pepcid AC use, so I'm bumping you up Bailey.

Hope the Pepcid helps with his meatloafing. Sounds like he is feeling miserable. Poor baby.

Wendy --

The enzymes can be given in a gel capsule form. They don't need to be mixed into food, if that will help with Bailey tolerating them better. This page from a vet clinic gives good information on treating EPI. From what they've written, it sounds like giving Pepsid regularly may help Bailey to feel better.
Mar Vista Vet said:
In the past, it was suggested that incubating the enzymes in the patient’s food would help initiate the digestion process in the food bowl but this has not been found to be true; the enzymes can be fed immediately mixed with the patient’s regular pet food. Some patients respond best when an H2 blocker-type antacid (such as famotidine) is given concurrently with the enzymes.
(The bold is mine.)

So I am guessing that means yes? I guess I have no option. Called the vet anyway but he isn't experinced with this condition.. Keeps calling it "rare"
