Hi Everyone.

Just wanted to give an update. Onyx is doing much better--and she hasn't vomited for more than 36 hours. She did start eating a little today thank goodness. She had been drinking, but she went on strike last night and wouldn't eat...eventhough she was starved. Overall, she seems like she's starting to feel better.

The vet said ALL blood work was perfectly normal. What a relief! And no, he never mentioned his behavior from yesterday. He thinks it's most likely hairballs, just like I hoped. If she doesn't clear it on her own, he wants her back for some tests. But I think we all know THAT isn't going to happen!
I'll either see the owner, or go to someone else.

I spoke to the owner of Young Again about what's been going on with Onyx, as I was afraid it might be food related after she stopped eating it last night. He explained how cats go through MAJOR changes when they go on this food, and they go through a healing process from the inside out. One of the last phases is a new coat of hair. Apparently most of the cats completely lose all the old, straggly hair--and grow in a new, kitten-like coat. During the process, the hairballs can be quite bad, but he said it's temporary. I can certainly attest to the beautiful coat she's getting. He was so nice, he's even sending me a bag of the flavoring they use on the outside of the food, to hopefully trick Onyx into eating vaseline so the hairball blockage will slide through. He said it works great on his cats. I have to say, the people at Young Again went above and beyond the last 2 days trying to help me with Onyx, so much more than my vet EVER did. The owner even gave me his cell phone number in case I needed help getting her to eat. And that was at 11:00 last night. And as soon as they were in the office today, they were calling me to see how she was. They're a small company, but I hope they hold on to those core-values as they grow. It was so nice to see.

Anyway, thanks so much for all the support the past few days--and the vet-venting.

YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!

Sending hugs and healing vines to those kitties in need today.

Glad to hear Onyx has got a normal report so far - will keep paws crossed it's just a hairball - wouldn't that be a relief!!!! Too bad hairballs have the same symptoms as some other nasty things!

I'm sorry I missed what was going on....I wasn't on the board Tues/Wed.

I just went through this same thing with Gracie and my vet said hairballs can cause severe vomiting and diarrhea as it did in Gracie. She managed to work the hairballs out and she's doing so much better so I hope that's all it was with Onyx. It's also great to hear her bw is all normal. Shame on your vet...he should have apologized profusely. If he ever does it to you again, I would tell him it's not about his EGO...it's about your kitty!!!

I have a problem with alot of the information the folks at YA tell people. They have no scientific basis or documentation for their statements. He's helpful because he has a product to sell. I would not give my cats any kind of petroleum product (vaseline) for hairballs. That's just me personally.

I'm just really glad she's better.

Thanks, Ladies.

I actually WAS putting coconut oil on her food, but took a break for a week after she vomited a hairball the size of a hot dog. I know, gross. But as soon as she gets her appetite back, I'll start doing it again.
