I wish the vets office would have gave me a heads up on how tommy was going to react to me giving him the liquid bupe. His dose is .45 every 12hrs.
Was only able to give him .15. His reaction sent me into panic mode, I thought I did something wrong.
Can I get it in pill form, or would it be better to go back and have them give the shot form that lasts 3 days.

How big is Tommy? What is the concentration of bupe on the prescription? .45 is a large dose if you've got the most common concentration used. Neko is 15lbs (almost) and gets .22 BID of bupe. Many cats do fine on less. Bupe is either given orally (in the cheek pocket) or injected - no pills.

His weight Is just under 15. Where it says strength it is blank, but right above that it says bupe oral suspension .3mg then says something after that I can make out.

Darin, when you first mentioned Tommy's dental, I meant to ask how much Bupe the vet was prescribing, sorry I missed the follow up posts. My Tiger is a small girl, barely 11 pounds, when she needed Bupe, the vet gave her 0.3ml every 12 hours orally. Her first dose was at the office, so we could all see that it literally knocked her on her butt immediately, it was scary! Tiger's came in a Monoject syringe prefilled, so after that first dose, I only gave half doses and it also seemed to constipate her so I had to add organic baby food squash to her diet. Hope Tommy feels better soon, good for you for getting the dental out of the way!

Sorry Tommy had such a reaction. I would call. Maybe they can give a low dose injection. They should have given you a heads up. I assume we are still going to the same vet.

That's probably .3 mg/ml - same dilution as Neko's bupe. They are about the same weight. There is a wide range for the amount of bupe that can be given a cat, and the formula is based on weight. I'd say the amount prescribed was on the high side for Tommy. Did he still act stoned and out of it on a .15 dose? If so, maybe try .1. You have to play with what works for your cat. The other thing to keep in mind is that a larger dose lasts longer, so maybe give less but three times a day.

Did not notice much of a stoned/out of it effect.
The stuff just must taste horrible seeing how he reacted.
I will split it into 3 times a day.
