Since he didn't have a shot last night due to low numbers and not eating, so this morning is high. He is eating so I gave him three units. I stalled briefly for advice but with the time different no answer so I just went ahead. That being said if I need to change and start a different 6 cycle dose please let me know, I will start with this evenings shot. He started out slow with eating but now seems to be picking up.

Someone said I should mention that after the +4 52, I was uncertain if that was right so maybe 2 minutes I retested and it was 31. I just thought that in 2 minutes it wouldn't drop that much so just stayed with saying 52, then even lower. Maybe that will help in deciding next dose.

Hi Marlene, so glad to see Shanti's appy is better today. I hope his appy will continue to improve.

Ok, Shanti now let's move on down to a nicer floor. Red is so not your color.

Hi Marlene,

Did I miss a post? I didn't see one where you were stalling. (I tend to overlook things a lot, though.) It's great that Shanti's appy is picking up. I know that's been a struggle for you.

Here's the link to yesterday's condo: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=125500

I know Shanti has gotten into some good numbers on this dose. The other day, you mentioned that you retested after you got the 52 and it was lower. Do you remember what the second number you got was? If so, you might want to put it on your spreadsheet, too. It might be important since we typically recommend reducing a dose if numbers fall below 50. But I'm sure some of the more experienced users will be along later to help answer your dosing questions.

I hope Shanti's appy continues to improve!

Yesterday after I got the 52 I waited a few minutes and decided to test again just in case, that time it come up 31 but they were so close I didn't think it would drop 20 points in just a few minutes so I didn't post that.

Re: 9/18 Shanti AMP 431

I believe most people when the retest right away do an average of the 2 numbers which would give you a 41.5 which earns shanti a .25 reduction.

Re: 9/18 Shanti AMP 431

So this evening I will give 2.75 units. Shanti still a little off but much better than the mess yesterday in the morning. I am trying not to go crazy.

Re: 9/18 Shanti AMP 431

Vet called with results, Shantis white count quite high and liver values are high. I will be getting an ultrasound as soon as we can get an appointment. She is putting him on Denamarin for liver and Veraflox for infection. He is till not eating normally , got his appetite stimulant again today. Tought I'd keep you all informed.

Shabti had first dose Veraflox, liquid and didn't like it. I have so much more experience with pills but this one doesn't come in pill form. Had such a hectic time that I just got around to testing, 227 doesn't sound too bad all things considered.

Veraflox is primarily given for skin infections but also respiratory infections. Typically elevated liver enzymes would warrant treatment with a broad spectrum or GI specific a/b such as clavamox or metronidazole, respectively.

I've been dealing with recurring cholangitis in Gracie for two years. We caught it during normal bloodwork which showed her liver values were elevated. An u/s would be very revealing in what is actually going on. The liver, intestines, gall bladder, and pancreas are sll sitting right there together and if one get infected or inflamed, sometimes the others do as well. Cholangitis is very common in cats.

if you get an u/s, some things you want to ask are:
How does the gall bladder look? is the bile duct dilated and, if so, could be from a physical or functional obstruction? Usually with a physical obstruction, you would see very elevated liver values and a large gall bladder but if the dilation is caused by infection, the gall bladder should appear normal or even small after a meal. cholangitis can be caused by ascending bacterial infection from the intestines...but not always.

Typically the antibiotic of choice for treating cholangitis is metronidazole but Gracie is allergic to it and so we've had great luck with clavamox.

The other things that really help in treating cholangitis are ursodiol, denamarin, and water soluble liquid vitamin E like AquaE.
