Re: 9/18 Ozy AMPS-142,+2-124,+4-70

I saw the chiropractor today (for me) and he said he adjusts cats and dogs. So, I made an appointment to take him in on Saturday. Has anyone done that with their cat? Did it help?

Another great day for Ozy. Looks like he really knows how to work the juice!

I've taken a shelter cat to see a vet chiropractor a few times. This was a cat who came in as a kitten, tail crushed, and probably hit by car. His back and back end were a mess. The chiro had never seen a cat that bad, but his mood improved greatly after treatment. The shelter manager also took her dog there. There are only a couple of chiropractic vets around here and they are both popular and hard to get into. I take that as meaning they have success with their patients.

Vet chiropractors are either vets or chiropractors who have take a one year specialized course in treating animals.

Thanks Wendy. We have an appointment on Saturday. We will see how it goes.

Ozy is moving around more this afternoon. He used the scratching post. Came to me when I called from across the room. Still walking hunchbacked (raccoon like) and stiff but WALKING!!!! We need more of that.

Not wanting to walk came on rather suddenly. In late June he could still jump up on the counter. And he was meeting us at the door when we came home. And walking around. Sometime in July he became REALLY inactive. He clearly had neuropathy but it has gotten better; he is no longer so wobbly. Maybe this is still neuropathy.

Ozy's numbers are looking good today. Good luck with the chiropractor vetty visit. I hope it helps Ozy.

Thanks for stopping by, Carla. Yes, Ozy's numbers have been very very nice. And I am especially thrilled that he is a little more active. I sat on the front porch with him for a bit and he was so excited he was quivering/purring.

Hi Donaleen! People I know take their dog to a chiropractor because it had some kind of back issue. It seems to be slowly helping and they think it's worthwhile. (They may be the only people I know outside of the FDMB that think it's quite sane to treat a diabetic cat!) Let us know how it goes.

It's nice Ozy was feeling good enough to take an interest in what was going on when he was sitting on the step. Here's to more good days for our kitties!

are you treating him for arthritis, donaleen? i looked at his ss (great info in your "under the rock" tab) but didn't see anything regarding arthritis treatments. my understanding is that most cats over 7 have some. we gave punkin adequan and took him in for laser treatments. i tried accupuncture but he was so afraid of it we stopped. all of those helped him some, however.

Re: 9/18 Ozy AMPS-142,+2-124,+4-70,PMPS-103

Hi Julie,

He avoids moving much. That can't be good. I am not sure what is wrong. The vet said arthritis/joint problems and recommended fish oil. Marje recommended a specific one that I ordered but it isn't here yet.

I was at the chiropractor and asked if he worked on animals and he said yes so I made an appointment to take Ozy in.

I am a little afraid because this not wanting to move thing seems like it happened pretty fast (in the past few months). I know he has neuropathy and he is taking Zobaline for that. It had gotten so bad that he couldn't walk more than a few steps without resting and his back legs were quite shaky. That has improved. But he still doesn't want to move much so something must hurt.

I will have to look up adequan.

I guess you could say I am looking for what is wrong. My experience with my own body and my husband's body says you have to try things to figure out what is wrong and what will help it. And the help can come from surprising places.

Thanks! My "under my rock" tab is great information I find here, with the author. Since I am quoting word for word, I can always do a site search and find it again. Or ask the person for more detail if I need it. There was a Kurt Vonnegut book where this guy couldn't remember much so he kept it under a rock so he could find it again, hence under my rock.

it's a good idea - especially that you've got it right here as part of Ozy's ss. then you can always remember where you put it! ;-)

punkin had the best response from the adequan (injectible) and the laser therapy. it made a huge difference - he went back to jumping up on tables, running up our stairs instead of walking one step at a time and then pausing, etc. i would say the laser made the biggest difference, but it was expensive. the vet gave us a discount on our account eventually - i think she felt sorry for how expensive punkin was. worth every penny to us, of course.

adequan is a good treatment too.

Re: 9/18 Ozy AMPS-142,+4-70,PMPS-103

That's very interesting. Our chiropractor uses lasers for healing. He used it a lot on my wrist when I broke it. I bet he will use it on Ozy as well. He is a big believer in laser treatment. I will be sure to ask him to try it. Thanks for the tip.

I suppose you know what I am afraid of....

Hi Donaleen,
Ozy's numbers are looking great again.
I'm glad he's moving around more today.
Good luck with the chiro appointment.
I hope it will help him.

Re: 9/18 Ozy AMPS-142,+4-70,PMPS-103

Thanks, Mariko. Ozy has had great numbers. I am enjoying them and telling myself not to get attached to them but I'd like to get attached to them.....

Re: 9/18 Ozy AMPS-142,+4-70,PMPS-103

ugh, well no wonder you're worried. i hadn't thought of that at all. i do think arthritis can be very crippling, and it is very common. so maybe send your mind there first! :-D how's that for a cheery thought?!? compared to the idea of cancer, arthritis is nothing. but seriously, see about the adequan. i know there was some issue about it not being produced a few months ago and i'm not sure how that has been resolved. i saw in someone's ss tonight that they used equine adequan. you might be surprised at how much it *might* help.

Re: 9/18 Ozy AMPS-142,+4-70,PMPS-103

...I'm taking notes from Ozy's condo today, as Ripley has arthritis in her spine... can't wait to hear how the chiro. visit goes.
I love that Pancreas is wearing glasses. (I assume that's his/her name?)
Hilarious.

I hope you guys have a good night :-D

Re: 9/18 Ozy AMPS-142,+4-70,PMPS-103

Wow Ozy's SS is looking so great!! A very lovely cycle!!!

Hope you have a great night Donaleen

Re: 9/18 Ozy AMPS-142,+4-70,PMPS-103

Thanks Josie. I loved that joke and I wanted someone else to like it, too.

And thanks, Jamie. Ozy is doing very well with his glucose. I am so very happy about that.

Re: 9/18 Ozy AMPS-142,+4-70,PMPS-103

The adequan is released again or soon will be.

My vet called yesterday and they aren't worried anymore.... they said I could have a vial now. They had many but weren't letting patients
take vials, just handing out syringes because priority went to the patients who needed it the most. ( apparently my town has many crippled dogs who can't walk without it)
So it must be forthcoming for them to sell me a vial today.

I think it's made a big difference for Shadow. And even dropped her numbers possibly. She has bouts where she doesn't want me touching
her back. ( bit me on the nose this morning.... a warning to stop ) She got her shot tonight.
She had xrays to confirm the arthritis in her shoulders and elbows. ( we just assume the back end too )

Re: 9/18 Ozy AMPS-142,+4-70,PMPS-103

The syringes my vet gave were like dull harpoons.

Dyana told me she uses the insulin syringes instead.... and I have started doing that too. It's working great. I just push the plunger slower since it's a lot more fluid than the insulin amount we dealt with before.
