wheezer
been sick with an URI. treating with AB and lysine. numbers all over the place. dosing averaging from .1-.4u. numbers from 50-high 300's. after better, may try the experiment michelle and doodle was to try.
Beasley
as purry and lovable as always. follows you around like a puppy dog and really meows and runs when time to eat. so funny to watch.
weight down to almost and even 13#. we seem to be at a bit of a stand still with loosing and ounce and then gaining it back. should break soon. this is down from 18#12.4 oz if I remember correctly. numbers 60-mid 100's and staying at .5u for awhile now
twinkie
ahhh Twinkie
seems as though (AC reading) twinkie is a mess physically and emotionally. says nothing I have done has helped in any way. not my fault. seems to have a lot of stress ect. soooo. as of the 1st, started him on some prozac. initially 1/4 tab QD. no results in 3 or 4 days so I increased to 1/2 tab QD. wait for it.........................
his licking has decreased remarkably. he will give an occasional lick but not to where it is causing open wounds. I can now pet him with only a little back rippling whereas before, I could not even tent his skin without throwing him into fits of rippling and licking. if collar on, would lick collar or air. also putting on herbal lavender anti itch soap on areas. hopefully the lavender will help with calming effects too. I hope telling this has not jinxed us.
his numbers are 70's to mid 100 and he is and has been on .75u. had him down to .1u but a few doses of steroids and seems as though it is now taking longer to dosecrease.
anyone know anything about prozac dosage and if it can be given BID?? my thoughts is ... if insulin has to be given BID due to faster metabolism, then why not same for prozac. I started today at 1/4 BID thinking it would be more consistent in body.

so knock on wood, all continues going on the up and up

I just knocked on wood for ya, and the gang.
It's so nice to see you post a Caturday report :-D

Good luck with all the kitties. It's not fun when they don't feel well - even worse when it's more than one... Hope Wheezer and Twinkie are feeling better soon. And hope Beasley breaks out of that weight loss plateau!

I hope Wheezer feels better soon. It sounds like the others are making great progress and are ready to go home, yes?

Dian:

I'm more familiar with the use of Prozac in humans. It has a VERY long half life. It takes at least 8 weeks for it to reach an effective blood level so don't expect a miracle over night. If you've not seen this article on OCD in cats/feline hyperesthesia, it sounds like it describes what has been going on with Twinkie. The couple of articles I've looked at recommend up to 5mg once per day. I honestly don't think BID dosing will do much -- it doesn't in humans. You have to get a blood level and once the drug is at a steady state, you'll get the maximum response.

Ahhhh, nice to see you guys have a condo today and catching up on what is going on in your household!
Sorry to hear that the Wheez isn't feeling well and hope that he starts to kick that URI in the butt soon.
Beasley is doing well, even if he is losing then gaining. Look how far he has come in almost a year. I am so proud of him!!!
And Twinkie....well, hopefully that prozac will help him. I know that Sienna is right in as far as the prozac taking time to get into the system, at least in humans, so try to be patient!

I will now go and knock on wood!!!

thanks all.
sienne, thanks for that article. will read it when I am awake. this is my sleep test and shoot time right now. will go back to QD. he is getting 5mg now and although not totally better, I have seen results in 2 weeks. I kind of assumed a theraputic level needed to be reached but did not know how long that would take. thanks for the info. at least (knock wood) as of right now, there appears to be some improvement.
A YEAR Deb!!! good gosh. you are right. near thanksgiving will be a year. OMG. to be honest, it does not seem that long.

very interesting sienne. other than the rippling and licking, he has no other symptoms and when he starts doing it, you cannot break his attention from doing it unless you go up and touch him. sadly, he is not a player. I have tried and he looks at me like I am nuts.
never read of skin problems from past HX where he came from so assuming it is stress related due to leaving his environment. I did notice rippling when I was petting him on arrival initially and within a few weeks he started with the licking. it is just both back legs from haunches down. he does lick other spots but not compulsively. now he has taken to scratching his neck so I have been washing with the anti itch shampoo. the only other thing that works is steroid shots but I cannot do that forever and it only solves the problem ti steroid wears off.
thanks for your thoughts
