After a run in the greens last night :mrgreen: :mrgreen: , Mannie starts today with a blue amps of 180. YAY! :-D :-D , and no bounce... I love blue amps - such a great way to start a cycle. It was suggested to be last night that instead of upping Mannie's dose, which I was thinking about (really would like to get him to consistently start with a blue ps, and have more greens mid-cycle), that in situations where I am feeding HC, that I try to get him to surf a green number with LC. We will give it a shot, see how it goes. I think that last night we could have maintained a lower green surf, if I had fed LC. Either way I am normally home, and can monitor what is evolving.

Mannie, Stu, Tess and Moonie, aka the Kittenhood of Traveling Soup, made an emergency run of chicken soup to Muffin who was feeling poorly yesterday. It is all that this kitty can talk about this morning. He thinks they may have a thing going here - new business venture!

Mannie is in good spirits this morning: purrs, rubs, chin scritches. Interior has been secured, though rather hastily. Raining here again so the exterior was surveyed from his window perch - tons of good sniffs coming in through the window opening. Breffis #1, and #2 eaten. Napping is now in progress, on top of all his catnip stuff. I did get one pitiful look from that stash - with that "where is my nanner" look. geez - guess I had better get some nanners. :roll: :roll:

I heard so much about the nanners recently that I just ordered some yesterday from Amazon.

:lol: :lol: at least Curry has a sense of humor.... :-D i guess I had better get some nanners. he just loves catnip, and it sounds like these are filled with good stuff. there is a mail order outfit: vermont country store, that sells catnip bags - they're small canvas bags filled with what must be primo stuff. I've been buying them for years. The cats attack the box when it comes before i can even get them out of the packaging. :lol: I hope nanners are as good! looks like they also sell cigars.. omg. too fun on that too.

Hi Sienne - that was in essence, Jill's comment last night. Perhaps not. I think that I could have successfully controlled last nights drop with a lower carb. And in doing so I should end up with lower ps and mid cycle numbers. I think going forward we will try a LC/MC approach on drops, unless he is really low at ps. There are times when I get hung up on the drops, the rate of the drop, and instinctively reach for the HC, when a lower carb might have been better. What do you think?

and in relation to all that HC: all this HC supplements presents a weight issue. I'd love to have him drop 3-4 pounds... not easy when all these drops are fed the way they are. It just isn't easy to adjust quantities fed - they are already small. a catch 22.

If Mannie and the gang want to start that business venture, Muffin is volunteering to be the spokesmodel, or the poster child, or a really great reference! She can't stop talking about that chicken soup and the visit. It's apparently much better than her regular food - she didn't want much of that this morning. Maybe she's hoping for another visit today and is saving room! :lol: Binks is meeting her in vetty parking lot to take her to the Lizard Luau later - she's searching for her lei right now.

On the weight thing, yeah, I'm finding it a lot more difficult that I thought it would be to get poundage off a feline :lol: I've been thinking I've had my Shnookie on a diet for the last 2 months only to find he's lost at most 6 oz. Back to the drawing board on that one! :lol:

Oh I know of the weight thing. I have been fighting that one for a few years on two of my civvies. What was interesting was that I had all this MD left over from when Mannie was first diagnosed, at the time I was told by my vet it was "the food" for diabetics. anyways - got him off that and thought well, lets use it up with the other two, and my goodness - off the pounds came. They are now both slim and trim and fit once again. At least the MD was good for something. :-D :-D

hey, mannie...i'm picking up muffin and shnookie in the bean's two-seater zoom zoom...can you give me some driving lessons when we all get together?

we got bumper stickers, chicken soup, recipes galore, and no shortage of enthusiasm here...business venture sure to succeed!

celi will volunteer to be the work force...she's got all the mental manual labor people you need in one head! tell her what to do, and after some internal debate...she's off!! (in more ways than one)

Hey, that's interesting about the MD, Michelle. I, too, have a bag of it sitting here, because of course Muffin won't touch it. I feed it to Kibby from time to time (he loves it, but doesn't need to lose weight) Shnookie's not normally a dry food kinda guy, but I'll try it and see if he'll eat it. Thanks for the tip!

Hey you guys!! Happy Caturday!! I think I was trying to say last week, what Sienne & Jill were saying about using LC with/or w/o MC food--I (unless she is in the 30's or 40's) usually use the MC & LC as I find she doesnt bounce quite so much later or the next day--Look you have been doing a SPECTACULAR JOB, so you know what you are doing!!!

AS far today's Merriment!!, Moonie is surfing in blue right now, we will be going out for the holiday soon & DPS is coming to care for them!! Poor cats-unsuspecting :shock: :shock: --
Moonie has been working on a Lizard Stew, since everyone seems to loove it!--We dont get any lizards here, but Moonie has become quite a cook--Have a great day--

Hi Roni - agreed on the food thing. For the most part Mannie is LC fed. It's the drops where I think I could do better. He :lol: :lol: wasn't known as the fdmb olympic diving champion who owned stock in the bungee and trampoline companies for nothing. :lol: :lol: To counter attack these significant drops I had to use HC - nothing else would slow the drops. Since that usually is not the case anymore ( ie high pinks to greens) i think I can get by, like last night, with an LC/MC combo. Anyways - I'm sorry If I was dense last week and didn't pink up on what you were telling me. :-D anyways - you guys are right - if I change that one little thing I think I will get what we are after - the blue ps with greens mid cycle... well most of the time I hope. Thanks for finally getting through to me. YAY!

Anne - on the MD - most of what I have left was canned - not the dry. may make a difference? But it did take off the pounds... like 6 on one cat (yes - she was FAT), and 3 on another. It would be interesting to know if the dry would be the same. ??

PAW UPDATE: Mannie's paw is healing well - as far as I can tell - he's never been too crazy about anyone messing with his feet. No bleeding or swelling or oozing or any of that yucky stuff. :-D He is back to normal though for play and work and running and jumping. So - good to go. And on day 6 with the convenia issue, and no side effects. GOOD on that!

Michelle - just curious, was the cat already eating canned food and the MD took off pounds? Or was it dry food pounds? My vet was astounded when she found out Shnookie only eats canned food and is this ..."large" :lol:

Hi Anne - Initially they were a combo of dry and canned. I believe friskies canned - just their everyday friskies stuff, and purina dry. They were blimps. We then went to a combo of friskies canned, and MD dry, lost some but not much. It was about this time that I joined the board, learned that MD wasn't doing Mannie any good and switched to wellness. I had a ton of canned MD, which is what I fed the girls, completely eliminating the dry. make sense? or did i muddle it all up? they lost the weight on the canned MD. I also started to control portions - no free feeding... as I couldn't with Mannie - he'd be the hoover and clean everyone's plate.

I think Mannie is trying match Tess again right now, might not be the best idea. I'm convincing myself she ate, just in time for it to hit the bloodstream right when we did the in the door test. :roll: Unh Huh! Yeah Right!

Hi Ann! Mannie did that to me last week - I thought he'd eaten his snack - wrong.... I caught him wolfing that down 30 minutes before ps time. ohmygod_smile Not too sure why he bounced up like that today at +10, just cuz I guess. oh well... It is funny how some days they are neck and neck...

Shadow was 211 at +8 time....these boys....I fed LC last night with some higher greens and still got yellow today. (on the other hand Michelle...if the yellow is the bounce, then color ME happy!!)

Yup, they like to eat those snacks right before PMPS. In Stu's case, he "saves" his food if we are out and then runs to his dish to eat it the minute we get home. The gang sure enjoyed surfing, grillin' lizards for the stew, and making chicken soup today. Stu loved it all. Nice blue surf for Mannie today. He must have enjoyed not getting his ears poked all the time!! Hope you had a nice day, too, Michelle.

Hi barb - that it was, and all on food :-D There is always so much to learn. It is nice too, for me, when others question what I do - it makes me rethink things, and make some changes that I hope will help Mannie.

Hi Ella - those boys! I hope you had a good outing today. we eventually got some sun - so i went to the shore here, and walked the local trails. it was a nice time.

Hi Pat - i know... yellow can be ok for a bounce, for Mannie too. I am so glad that Mannie does always come up pink anymore. He dropped at +2 tonight, but I was good, held back, and gave him LC, as his numbers were not that low.

Looking good, Mannie. It will be interesting to see how the lower carb holds him. It was wild the other night when Mannie and tess were matching each other number for number and you were giving Mannie 18% while I was feeding Tess 4% to 6%. I hope he'll hold the surf a little longer this way.

Tess is cooperating tonight and I get to go to bed. See you tomorrow.

Hi Ann! yes it was - too unreal with the numbers matches. and yes on the 18%. I thought he needed it that night the drops were so fast, and large - now I wonder, perhaps I should have ended with some lower carb stuff, he may have surfed longer. He is holding this tonight on LC for the past two tests - It will be interesting to see if he can surf longer with a lower carb food. I will be anxious to see the amps that he has.

79 @ +5, fed LC, will check in 30 minutes
