Jupiter did eat a little bit of LC fancy feast this morning. Really hoping he will continue to eat today.

He went pee this morning and also had his first bowel movement since his surgery!

He tried to wipe his behind across the floor... and him dragging his behind means him dragging that incision so I had to run back the hallway and stop him right away. He will not use the LB with me in the room so I had to stand at the end of the hallway and keep peeking back there to check on him. The staples look fine but I am sure he will be really sore later.

In the crate he kept trying to take his cone off... when I put him in bed he kept trying to get up and go under the couch. Finally got him to rest in the crate.

I am feeling beyond overwhelmed. :YMSIGH:

Re: 9/18 Jupiter

I'm glad he finally had a poo!! You're doing great, Jamie. Just keep offering him food evey hour or two.

I'm sorry you've been in so much pain. Sending prayers and healing vines for you both.

Re: 9/18 Jupiter

Oh Jamie...you're doing so great and so is Jupe!! I know you have to be wiped out but it's going to get better with time. It's wonderful that he's peeing and pooping though! That's progress!

Try to get some rest in while Jupe is resting in his crate. You must take care of yourself so you can be there for him when he needs you.

All of Lantus Land is praying for you, Dane and especially Jupiter.

Re: 9/18 Jupiter

I know you're feeling tired and overwhelmed but remember, every day he is getting stronger and stronger .. soon he'll be playing like he was before and you won't remember these hard times .. you'll just be living with a happy healthy kitty cat ..

Re: 9/18 Jupiter

Jamie, just take it one day at a time and keep reminding yourself he is getting better. The fact that he's trying to take the cone off shows he's feeling better. You're doing a great job. Try to get some rest for yourself too.

Sending prayers and hugs to you. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 9/18 Jupiter

Jamie, that is great that he had his first poo. And that is funny that he won't go while you're looking
Keep your cone on Jupiter, if you want to heal from this.

Re: 9/18 Jupiter

Hi Jamie. Good to read that Jupiter is using the LB. Don't let this process get you down. Stay focused on the light at the end of the tunnel....it's Jupiter playing with the light from a lazer pen. You're doing a great job.

Have a great day Jamie.

Re: 9/18 Jupiter

Jamie, that is super pooper news, your doing so good it seems that this is easier for you then it was before. know he will be up to his old self in no time, my heart is with you hun, speedy healing vines.

Re: 9/18 Jupiter

Yea for poo!! I don't know if anyone else has suggested this, but have you tried to get him to eat baby food? (all meat ones with no onions or garlic).

You're doing such a good job with him but sorry you're so wiped. He has made such good progress so far!!

Re: 9/18 Jupiter

I can't even begin to imagine what you are going through and how you are handling it.

I am glad that he is eating a bit more and using the LB. At least everything is functioning and that's great. Now if only we could speed up the healing process.....

Re: 9/18 Jupiter

He sounds to me like he is making good progress every day.. Trying to take his cone off and being more active sounds feisty and so perhaps he is in less pain too!

Have you tried these enticing tips to get him to eat :

Enticing your cat to eat
Here are some things you can do do entice your cat to eat:
sometimes in order to get a cat to eat you even have to resort to dry it is more important that they eat. there are a couple low carb / grain free dry foods.
making a buffet to give him choices
heating food

Sprinkle food with :
FortiFlora -- a probiotic you can get at vets or online. is very smelly and cats love the taste of it.
parmesan cheese, other cheeses
smashed crumbles of dry food
bonito/tuna flakes (Asian markets or Asian food section in grocery stores)
Freeze dried treats (Halo, pure bites) -- crumble into dust over food. Chicken or liver flavours.
pour a little water from tuna in water over food (I use low sodium/no sodium added as other kinds in water has veg. broth in it and I assume that means onions, which are toxic to cats and it shouldn't contain soy -- check labels)
powdered oregano. yep sounds weird . but some cats like it and it will entice them to eat.
Small amounts of buttery cookies, white cake, butter, mayonnaise, cheesy poof chips (any forbidden food that they love)
Olives/olives juice

Other ideas of foods to offer your kitty to stim appy:
trader joe tuna for cats
baby food -- beechnut or Gerber Stage 2 -- you want a baby food that is only a protein + broth (although the Gerber contains cornstarch). It should have no onions or other additives. some babyfoods have onions . please read labels if you can't find beechnut.
kentucky fried chicken KFC
deli meats ie turkey /chicken
plain cooked (boiled or baked) chicken breast (or beef, ham, turkey, pork, steak, bacon)
Raw - whole meats, rinsed well or partially baked
canned chicken for people (watch the label that their are no onions)
chicken broth -- low sodium
olive oil/ warm milk (sparingly), kitty milk, cream, ice cream
Selection of canned foods (buy a can of everything!)

If enticements don't work, you should consider:
assist feeding ( syringe or make little meatballs and place in mouth)
and/or talking to your vet about appetite stimulants ( mirtazapine or cyproheptidine)

Re: 9/18 Jupiter

Speedy healing Jupe! Hang in there Jamie and Dane! You're on the right path and there's a lot of road behind you. One day at a time...

Re: 9/18 Jupiter

Jamie,
You need REST....you're worrying so much about Jupe that you're letting yourself get too tired. I know this is wearing on you physically and emotionally. I wish I was closer, I'd come over and sit with Jupe for a while so you could sleep a LOOOONG sleep.

BIG HUGE HUGS, you REALLY REALLY are doing wonderfully, you're just too close to the forest right now - you're hitting your head on the trees.... <3

Re: 9/18 Jupiter

Yay for pee and poo! I can only imagine how overwhelming things are right now...you are doing a truly amazing and inspirational job with Jupiter!

Re: 9/18 Jupiter

Jamie, I'm sorry you're hurting so badly. I'm glad that Jupiter is getting a little stronger every day.
Peeing and pooping is wonderful news.
I hope he starts eating better, but maybe when the pain subsides more, his appy will return.

I hope you get some better sleep tonight.

Re: 9/18 Jupiter

oh what a relief it is!!!

amazing that Jupiter is going to bathroom by himself! really...I am amazed by this.......animals are so incredible.....and Jupiter is so awesome!

Jamie....you are so strong....this has to be beyond stressful for you...and we are all so sorry.....

you and Jupiter make a perfect pair: super strong!!

update us when you have time.....I look for them every day!

Thank you all for the visits today. I appreciate them so much. Jupiter did eat small amounts of FF during the day today.... but still not enough... he normally would eat the majority of his food at night so will keep offering him food every 1-2 hrs. Hoping he will eat some more.

So sorry I havent visited condos lately. I will try to stop by all of your condos soon.

((Jamie)), the other day I mentioned that Jupe is my hero ~ that's still true, but I have another hero: You.
Your care and attention and love for Jupe shows ~ no, it Radiates.
You have been through so much, and there's still a little way to go during this journey while Jupiter heals, a few more ups and downs.
I wish you and Jupe more ups than downs ~ he is doing so great considering what he's been through.
Give him a gentle scritch for me, and give yourself a big hug from me.
I hope you're able to get plenty of rest ~ take care! :YMHUG:

Wow...what a great pair you two are!! If I ever need someone on my side, I'm picking you Jamie! You don't know the meaning of the word "surrender"...and neither does Jupe!!

Hope you both have a quiet and restful night.

Hi Jamie,
I am glad Jupiter had a poo.
That is great.
And I'm also glad that he's eating, even a little bit.
I hope his appy will pick up soon.

Don't you EVER worry about not visiting our condo!
(At least, until Jupiter fully recovers... and then we want your visit. :-D )
Use that time to have some rest for you, Jamie. :YMHUG:

you're doing great - this is a hard time, and all you can do is keep putting one foot in front of the other.

i started to reply to your last post about syringe feeding, then realized there was a second page and you had quite a few responses. not sure if any of this is new, but thought i'd post it here rather than bumping up the older condo. hang in there! every day will get a little easier as he gets better.

this is the video i used when i assist-fed punkin and a friend's cat. the thing that helped the most was having a big enough syringe. i have a friend who works at a people pharmacy and she got a giant syringe, probably 10" long with a bigger opening so it didn't clog. it was a little bit harder to manage one-handed, but i got the hang of it after a bit and that larger opening really prevented the clogs.

i just used cat food and water. after you've blended the cat food and water, it's worth the time to push it through a sieve so you don't have lumps that will clog the syringe. i did about a can at a time and kept the excess in the fridge til i needed it. it's a very messy process (at least for me) so i wore an old baggy work shirt over my clothes, a towel around kitty, and a wet washcloth for helping with flying food.

sometimes just getting them started eating will get them interested.

keep track of how much you're getting down jupiter so you know if there's enough calories going in. it can take a long time to get a can's worth through the syringe.

Hang in there, Jamie, Jupe's making incredible progress, & your Hurculean efforts are coming to fruition - but it's only natural that you'd be exhausted. I hope you can get some well-earned rest! Keeping prayers for Jupe!
