Yesterday at Tricia's House of Chaos

Hauled my sleepy butt out of bed at 0-dark-thirty this morning and dragged Cinco to UCD. Came home and went btb.

Thirty minutes later, the student on Cinco's case called me

. He said Cinco's heart murmur was louder than they'd heard it before and they had consulted a cardiologist because they did not want to repeatedly anesthetize him for his radiation without checking it out. He recommended an echocardiogram. I approved it and managed to get back to sleep. When I finally got up, I faced three indignant, hungry cats. Well, Minka was acting hungry, although she only ate a bite or two. Sasha was slightly better, and Harvey threw up a little bit as I was preparing breakfast. I guess he felt better, though, because he had no trouble affirming his membership in CPC. Sasha was coaxed into eating about 90% of her food, but I couldn't even get Minka to eat baby food, so I gave her some more Ondansetron, some Cerenia and some Cypro. After a while she started nibbling and nibbled her way through the day, thus heading off the syringe.

They called and asked me to come in at three, and traffic was horrendous, so I was 20 minute late, but fortunately, they never mind that. The oncologist said the Cinco did really well with his anesthesia (he was still a little groggy when they brought him in). She said the echo showed some thickening of the walls of the heart, consistent with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. This is apparently common in cats with Hyper T. The Cardiologist said that Cinco's heart was compensating well, the chamber sizes were normal, and he was an acceptable candidate for anesthesia. He recommends an echo once a year to monitor for changes, and wants his blood pressure checked every six months. Apparently it was slightly elevated, but not enough to treat when you take white coat hypertension into account.

The CT scan was mainly for mapping out where to target the radiation. They did find that there were some abnormalities in his nose. The oncologist said they had noticed them the last time, and they did not appear to have changed. She asked if he sneezes a lot or has nasal discharge. He sneezes sometime, but not a lot, and no nasal discharge. She said to keep track of that and let her know if it changes, as they will want to get a sample of the tissue to check for more cancer.

They monitored his BG and it was consistently around 260, so they did not give any insulin. I didn't have time to check it before we left this morning.

SO, He starts radiation therapy on Wednesday. I'm to give him his normal insulin dose and a good sized meal at 6 am, and then no food after that. I need to get him to UCD between 11 & 12 each day, they'll do the treatment at 2 and he should be home for PMPS at 6 pm. Lather, rinse, repeat, for the next 16 weekdays. Dr. C said that if I have trouble keeping him from dropping too low, we'll consider doing a half dose in the mornings. I can always rub karo on his gums if I need to. So we'll see how it goes.

I thought he would scarf his dinner down, since he hadn't eaten since midnight, but he ate it slowly, leaving about 1/4 of it for me to garnish with Forti Flora. Then he polished that off. Just as well. Didn't need a scarf and barf.

Minka ate about half her dinner right away, and after an hour I added some more food to freshen it. I just noticed that she is lying next to her empty plate. :) I need to go check on Sasha and see if she's finished hers.

So that's the wrap up from THoC today. I hope everyone has had a good Friday.

Sending healing vines to all in need and hugs to all their beans, especially Marilyn & Polly, Deborah & Shasta, Carla & her civvie Baby, Wendy & civvie Theo, and Marje & Gracie. :bighug: Prayers continue for Amy's DF, Lyresa's DF and DH, Marje's DM, Chris' DM, Molly's DM, and Elise's DM.

another breathe holding day ....
sounds like forward motion , nothing too scary,
so continued prayers, vines, and hugs.......sounds like a good night for an adult beverage and chocolate.

I'm glad he's gotten all the approvals to begin radiation. Prayers for the whole crew continue from us...you also need to put your feet up and enjoy an adult beverage!!

Wow, what an adventure today! Sending hugs and vines to you and the crew. I hope you are able to get a good night's rest tonight -- it is well earned. :bighug:

Well it looks like you have a game plan now! At least you don't have to get up at zero dark'thirty for those 16 days! (trying to find something good about radiation therapy....best I could do other than saying "We all know it's going to work!!")

Girls...you need to stop this fooling around with your appy's....mama's got enough to do without having to chase you around the house with a spoon in one hand and a variety of cat food cans and baby food jars in the other!!

Harvey...you just keep being Harvey!!

What an amazing momma bean you are...you truly inspire me...I wish I was half the cat mom you are....I am not sure I could handle all of that....

Sending happy appy vines to one and all and chemo killing bad cells vines for Mr. Cinco and I am also throwing in a few don't let Cinco have many side effects from the chemo vines and a few calming vines for the bean and mucho lots of hugs....

Oh my gosh. What a day. But all in all, the plan's in place, Cinco's a proven survivor, and sixteen days. Well, sixteen days from Wednesday, it'll be over.

Vines for succesful treatment...vines for endurance for the bean. We'll keep the light beams on high and all the purrayer motors here revved and roaring.

I don't know how you do it, Tricia, but your kits are darned lucky...girls, show some appreciation by eating.

Marilyn and Polly

As usual Marilyn put our thoughts so eloquently, just wanted to reinforce them and add some more vines for Cinco's recovery and strength for the upcoming marathon for you Tricia, you constantly amaze us all :bighug:

Wow - what a day. Glad to hear that Cinco has a plan for treatment. You know we will all be pulling for you in the next few weeks.

sending lots of vines for all the family - and extra appy vines for the girls.

Thanks for popping in, Rhiannon, Amy, Josie, Ella, Elise, Chris, Molly, Marilyn, Suki and Anne. I am constantly humbled by the response I get to my condos. You are all very kind, generous, caring people that make this insane merry-go-round I'm on slow down a little. Thank you for being there.

Cinco came down a whopping 96 points in 3 hours.

Minka's on her second refill. She's currently cuddling with her daddybean on the sofa.

Sasha ate most of her dinner. She's more interested in attention than food. I wish she was comfortable downstairs.

Harvey is eating anything I put in his dish. I'm tempted to try some prescription food, but I think the party would end there.

@Ann & Tess and @Chris & China, you are so right. I don't do mornings at all well. Never have. Don't think I ever will. I'm so grateful that I don't have to get Cinco there earlier. Sasha's radiation treatment is kind of a blur, but I seem to recall I was supposed to have her there around 9 am. I'm quite sure I was never on time.

I totally relate Tricia...I've never been a morning person either...I remember being in elementary school and just starting to drift off to sleep about 5am and then having to be up at 7 to catch the bus. I'm so lucky that when I was in school, we didn't HAVE to go a "mandatory" number of days to graduate or I'd still be in 3rd grade!

When I was old enough to get a job, my first job was working at Jack In the Box from 10pm to 8am in the morning (or whenever the drunk owner of the place staggered in) then I had several other 3rd shift jobs before landing at the IRS working from 9:30pm to 6am....my biological clock has been backwards for as long as I can remember!

If it weren't for having to be out earlier in the day to deal with stuff concerning DM, like doctor appointments, PT appointments, etc, I'd still be very much a night person

Speaking of DM....got a hair appointment in the morning, so guess I'd better try to get some sleep so I can get up and get her there!!

Sure don't have to worry about China tonight :(

Hoping for a better tomorrow and I've about convinced myself to go ahead and try another new pen even though this one has only been in use since 8/31

Kitty's.....its a darn good thing we love them like we do

Thanks, Chris. Looks like Cinco volunteered to take over the night shift. Can't believe he's back in the lagoon after missing a shot this morning and all the trauma of the day.

Cinco you rock little buddy :D

So cool how they've managed to schedule it to be as least disruptive to his FD treatment as possible and yay for no early mornings for you.

Hey Cinco I tink we should start planning da big party to celebrate for da end of dis radio stuff dat you be havin. You gonna stink like vet so bad we might need to make it a pool party wat you tink?
