9/17 Owen AMPS 209, +4 219, +8 337, PMPS 375, +2 199

Hello! Owen went up to 337 at +8. I think tomorrow we should test closer to +6? Should we be worried?
Is this just what happens at times? Thank you!

This is the link to your intro post that is on the Health board. It will help the Lantus folks to have context.

And so sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, many of us understand only all too well.

What you're seeing is a "bounce." When Owen dropped into green numbers yesterday, his liver and pancreas "panicked." He's likely not used to being in those numbers and it was a significant drop from his AMPS. When there is a big drop in numbers, a fast drop, or simply a drop into a number range a cat is no longer accustomed to, there is a compensatory response. The liver and pancreas release a stored form of glucose along with counterregulatory hormones that cause the blood glucose (BG) numbers to spike upward. It's a normal response that drives caregivers crazy but is not harmful. It can take up to roughly 3 days/6 cycles for the bounce to clear. As Owen gets more comfortable with being back in normal numbers, the bouncing should occur with less frequency.

Thank you @Sienne and Gabby (GA) . You are kind. I am still crying over the loss of my baby boy and feeling like I should have done more for him at the end. It is so hard!

Okay a bounce makes sense. I guess we will just be patient over the next 6 cycles and hold the line at 0.25 units.

Thank you again :bighug:

Question: do we need to worry about low numbers coming off of this bounce?
It looks like Owen could be coming off the bounce with that +2 of 199. So I would just get a + 4 or if it’s a bit later than +4, get a test at whatever time it is now. You can always give food to stop the BGs dropping too low. Post and ask for help if you are unsure what to do

Thank you for your response! Both Kris and I were asleep by this time. Im hoping his amps will be good and he didn’t go too low last night. I will update you in a new thread. The FDMB seems so busy compared with two years ago. Thank you so much for getting back to me- there are an overwhelming number of threads now!
