We upped Moonie‘s dose this morning. I’d been waiting for her bounce break but this morning was the 7th straight flat yellow cycle in a row - so I’m starting to think that this dose has gone stale.

It’s weird how the same dose produces such different BGs over time. Naughty Moon Moon! 🌙

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how we met Moonie. At the time I thought it was so funny that Moonie’s shelter asked me if I wanted to pick her up the next morning, after an email or two (no application). Now I’m realizing that maybe Moonie’s time with the foster family was running out and her shelter was desperate not to introduce any friction into the process for a potentially serious adopter.

But when I asked Parker yesterday if we could try being an emergency foster for diabetic cats next year, he looked like I asked him if we could go live in outer space. So we’ll see 🤣.

Here’s silly little Moon Moon. She loves lying down with her belly up in the air. I think she knows it’s extra cute 🥰

Safe travels back to earth with the dose increase! Tell Moon Moon that I think her belly is cute too 🥰

It’s crazy you were talking to Parker about fostering diabetics kitties at some point, because I literally said the same thing to Austin 2 days ago 😂 funny enough, Austin agreed! But only after the girls’ time has come so we are a long time away from that. Were you looking at DCIN too?

Yes! And one of our pet sitters fosters diabetic and other medically complicated cats. She said no one here will foster or take a diabetic cat, and with her last diabetic, no one was interested for 2 years. Though it's a happy story as he apparently found an amazing home and is still healthy and happy at age 21 :)

I told Parker that if we're up at 6am for shots, we might as well do two insulin shots. Not sure if that argument will work but we'll see 🤣

I used to volunteer with a cat rescue group and fostered many cats for adoption. I also talked to potential adopters, did home visits and ran the email and website. It was a lot. When I left they got 3 people to do my (unpaid) job, lol. Anyway, black cats are incredibly hard to find homes for. They are personally my favorite, but most people dont want a black cat. Mooney is so lucky you came along.

Wow I can’t even imagine the amount of work you were doing if they needed three people to do something you were presumably doing part time to volunteer (!)

I’ve always wanted to get more involved in cat rescue, so maybe that can be my goal for 2027.

I love black kitties too, but I think they don’t photograph as well. I’m so so happy we found Moonie. Parker’s favorite coloring is actually Karamelle’s - he loves seeing the photos you post sometimes :)

I never understood the black cat hate! They're so elegant and regal!!

Does Moonie let you rub her belly or is it a TRAP?
She does! It’s very soft and fluffy. We’re very lucky that all five of our kitties love belly rubs 😻

I know and I love how well black kitties can camouflage themselves. I love that I can only see her big green eyes sometimes :)
