Good morning,

Yesterday's condo

9/16 AMPS=131; +2=126; +10=157
9/16 PMPS=178; +2=182; +5=176

9/17 AMPS=146; +2=110; +10.5=108
9/17 PMPS=137; +2=112; +5=122

No, the dosecrease on Sunday isn't doing anything yet.
This is the 5th cycle since the dosecrease, but so far I haven't seen any improvement at all, even a little bit.

Lucy's mood isn't too bad this morning. She was happy to see me awake.
But her appetite is quite a bit off.
I know it's not her tummy today, but it's her nose.
Her what I call a sticky nose is a bit worse since last night.
It's not exactly runny or stuffy, but I think she's got some mucus build up somewhere around where the nose and throat meet, or somewhere in nasal cavity.
She can breath through her nose, but with her airway somewhere inside partially blocked, eating and licking is harder for her, and she gets irritated.
I know exactly how she's feeling because I have the same problem.

So, I'm finger-feeding her a super-tiny ball at a time, so it doesn't take much effort for her to chew and swallow, but it takes a super-long time!
I just finished feeding her 1st brekfast, and it's already time for her 2nd breakfast!!!

I kept the air purifier off during summer because I didn't think it would make much sense to be running an air purifier and a fan at the same time while the windows are open, but since it's getting cooler, I turned it on again.
I hope it improves the quality of the air in the apartment, and her nose problem improves.

Wishing everyone a nice day today!

Re: 9/17 Lucy AMPS=146

Wishing you both clearer noses and better numbers for today. Time to work that juice Lucy!

There does seem to be something in the fall air that my nose objects to as well. I hope the air purifier works.

Re: 9/17 Lucy AMPS=146

Hi Mariko! Eating is not so fun when your nose is stuffed up, I can sympathize with Lucy (and you!). I don't know if it's the same out there or if it's more a prairie thing, but I'm allergic to the pollen of grasses which is bad in summer and SAGE which is really bad in fall. The air purifier should help, though.

Papaya used to have a stuffy nose quite often, but I haven't noticed it for a long time. I think changing the litter to something that isn't dusty helped her - first I went from the usual clumping dusty stuff to a wheat-based one, which helped a bit but not entirely (plus it was too expensive). Now I use a pine pellet kind and it just turns into sawdust and isn't dusty at all. I seem to remember you mentioning hauling bags of some special litter up to your apartment but I can't remember what kind it was, anyways it's probably something you already considered but I just thought I'd mention it!

Best clear-breathing and good-appetite wishes :-D

Re: 9/17 Lucy AMPS=146;+2=110

Oh???
Today's +2 is better.
Maybe the dosecrease is finally kicking in.
She's making a liar out of me again. :-D

Thank you Wendy and Amy for your well wishes.

Yes, I did consider the connection between her nose issue and litter.
I now buy Dr. Elsey's litter, and they are much much less dusty.
Her stuffy nose improved quite a bit since this change, but it still gets bad once in a while.
Thank you, thought, for your thoughts and suggestion.
I'm always looking to improve things for Lucy, so I may look into the pine pellet kind.
What brand do you use?

Re: 9/17 Lucy AMPS=146;+2=110

Hooray, Lucy!

I too was going to ask about allergens in the air this time of year. Right now some of of my colleagues are being affected a lot by ragweed.

As far as pine litters go, I use Feline Pine. It comes in both shavings and pellets. I use a half and half mix, because the shavings are soft, and the pellets break down into shavings over time. It's clumping, too, which is pretty cool. I like it because it has a pine odour, but this can be an irritant for cats (especially during the times of year when we keep our doors and windows closed, I'm guessing), but mine is far, far away from the action, in the laundry room on another floor. However, I've found World's Best, the corn-based litter, to be non-irritating. It's pricey, for 7 cats, but since you have 2 it might not be so bad.

Wishing you a lovely evening, Lucy and Mariko and Ginger.

Re: 9/17 Lucy AMPS=146;+2=110;+10.5=108

Thank you for your visits. :-D

I tried World's Best brand litter, but I did not like it.
I find it way too dusty.
My friend used to use World's Best, and her black cat likes to dig and play a little in the LB, and she came out a grayish cat!
I'm also a bit uncomfortable about corn being a common allergen, since Lucy has allergy issue.

I have two testing methods for dustiness of litter.
1. I scoop a handful and drop from maybe 20 inchis high.
2. I wear a black cotton sock on my hand and bury and shake my socked hand a little in the letter.

As far as clumping litters I have so far tried go, Dr. Elsey's is the winner.
I now use Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Ultra, which has mixture of larger particles and smaller particles, and it's still quite good.
I used to use Dr. Elsey's Respiratory Relief clay letter, which has all larger particles and literary no dust, but it was very expensive, and also I thought all these large particles may be a little uncomfy to the indoor-cats' soft paws.
I pressed my hand firmly on it once, and it was quite painful. :-|

I think I tried pine one before, and Lucy didn't really like the scent, but there may be different brands that are better, so I may try pine again.
I just have to be careful with plant based litter due to Lucy's allergy.
I really love Dr. Elsey's but it's HEAVY!!!!

Re: 9/17 Lucy AMPS=146;+2=110;+10.5=108

I'm sorry Lucy is stuffy...poor girl! We have some litter allergies here, too...my civvie Frankie (and DH) can't tolerate any sort of clay so we do use World's Best and both Frankie and DH are much, much better. It IS dusty...there is no hiding the fact that our black kitties have been in the box  !

I hope Lucy's stuffy nose is better this evening. Have a great one, Mariko!

Re: 9/17 Lucy AMPS=146;+2=110;+10.5=108

I'm sorry Lucy is still stuffed up. The 1/4 table of Zyrtec I gave Furball seemed to help her. You may want to ask your vet if this is something that might help Lucy. My vet said it was okay to give to my cats if they have a stuffy nose. I hope Lucy feels better soon.

Re: 9/17 Lucy PMPS=137

Lucy hasn't visited green yet (unless I missed it), but she seems her AM cycle was better than any other recent cycles, so I'm quite relieved.
Also, her mood isn't too shabby this evening, not playing or anything, but a bit more twinkles in her eyes.
Her PMPS isn't too bad either, so I'm hoping she'll stay lower blue at least!

Her stuffy/sticky nose might be a bit better.
She didn't make the pug-like noise while I finger-fed her 1st breakfast.
Maybe it's the air purifier I turned on this morning.
She must be really sensitive because I'm sensitive to most allergen and dust, and I don't feel any difference.

Re: 9/17 Lucy PMPS=137

Come on down Lucy. Show us the new juice tonight.

I recently switched to the Blue Buffalo walnut litter. It's similar to the World's Best, but Neko doesn't snack on it. And I can tell when my white pawed kitties have been in there, it's a dark brown colour.

Re: 9/17 Lucy PMPS=137;+2=112

Meh....
But at least, it's down.

Lucy was scaring me by intently looking at one window, which all I can see was "dark".
And even during finger-feeding her 3rd dinner, she kept looking back at that window.
She usually doesn't pay attention to things happening outside the apartment, even if there are birds or squirrels on the tree right outside the window, so I don't know what she saw.

GHOST???
