Okay. I can play with SS in the meantime.
Thank you all so much. Eating crow is not so hard, when your baby is at stake. :-D

looks good, Barb, you're definitely in control and this is a great place to surf.

Am I doing wrong by giving a snack at every test? He asks/expects it. I stop at +9 or 10.

I know it's normally rediculous to panic at blue numbers, but he dropped so fast between ps and +1, that I was scared he would crash and I'd be alone with my mistake.

it's reasonable to be worried at a steep drop, Barb. He did drop sharply and early. Looks like maybe he's going for a surf now, which would be great! Unfortunately he'll probably bounce, but if he can hold this surf for a little while before bouncing that will be perfect.

It's ok to feed a bit at each test. It's best to consider that in his daily calories. For example, instead of feeding 3 oz. at meal time, maybe feed 2 oz. at meal time and save the other ounce for testing treats. Trust me on that one, I didn't do that and Lucy got way too fat because when she surfed low, she basically got an extra can or two of food each day.

The only time you're possibly alone around here is at 2 AM!!

It's OK to be scared and cautious. It's better to try to put the brakes on early than be struggling to get your cat out of the basement.

You don't want to over feed. When numbers are low and you're testing as a means of monitoring/steering the numbers, if you feed too much early on, your cat won't be hungry or will refuse food. That's the last thing you want when you're trying to bring numbers up.

If your talking more in general, you need to look at how sensitive your cat is too food. It may not be wise to feed if numbers are rising since the additional food may cause a bit of a food spike. Since Checkers tends to bounce after an early drop, I'd probably not want to be giving more food in the latter part of the cycle. Give a treat with a test vs. a snack. Or, like Libby suggested, take the food into account as part of his daily allotment.

197...well that surf didn't last long.
I will check again in an hour, and then I will know he isn't going back down.
Can I assume he should have 2.75 tomorrow? Or stick with 3?

Hey Barb, You are doing fine! I'm just getting to your condo this evening and just read all the excitement. We all question our vets' decisions and you shouldn't worry about being conflicted in that department! But as WCF remarked in Stu's condo the other day: we are the advocates for our kitties and it is up to us to keep questioning and making sure we are doing the right thing for them. No one knows them as well as we do. You, with the help of these wonderful and knowledgeable people here, will get Checkers's insulin dose straightened out, and if it turns out that he has an infection, then the vet will do something about that. So brew yourself some more coffee and watch Checkers have his blue surf. Tomorrow Libby, Jill, and Sienne will put their heads together and help you decide what your new dose should be. And we all are always here to give you support.
Hang in there!

Hugs,
Ella & Stu

I would go to 2.75 also. That doesn't mean that he won't need an increase to 3 units next, but maybe we can ease into it a little bit so he won't feel a need to go skydiving...

I'll plan to give 2.75 in the morning. I realize this blue was nice, but it happened too fast.
Thank you Sienne, and Libby, and Jill, and everyone for helping, and holding my hand.
