Good morning, good afternoon! Bella is doing well. We have an appointment next Monday (next-next, the 26th) with the vet, for check-up and vaccines and I will talk to her about Adequan. Are there any other medications for arthritis? I've seen some here with Meloxicam, is that similar? @carlascalico , I think that's what Cali takes?

Good morning, Cecile. Happy Bella is doing so well. [Mine post didn’t notify me, I just happened to look].
Yes Cali does take Meloxicam every day. She is 15 pounds and we give her 0.02mls daily. It seems to do wonders for her and she LOVES it. When I put in the syringe and ask if she is ready for “good-good” she literally sits on her fat behind and puts both front paws on my arm and stands on 2 back legs balancing for this. It has made her much more mobile and agile, although she can’t hold a light to the two younger ones who fly up and down stairs, on the counters [a no-no], and jump in the air chasing birds. At this Cali just lays on her throne and growls.

Cali sounds so regal :cat: I love her! It's weird, it's the second time I try to tag you and it does not work. I'll try again.
Thank you for your answer! Bella loves being tested now because she knows food is coming, so if she wants to eat, she comes and sits in her testimng place (the rug on the kitchen) and looks at me like "I'm ready, what are you waiting for?". She jumped on the counter 10 days ago for butter but then she's been limping again after that, I guess she is younger in her mind than in her joints! I'll mention both treatments to my vet, thank you again :bighug:
110 @+3. My daughter gave her a MC food by accident yesterday night (at +3 and +6), I wonder if her higher numbers today are because of that.

I will talk to her about Adequan. Are there any other medications for arthritis? I've seen some here with Meloxicam, is that similar?
You want to try Adequan first. My civvie Budge is on Meloxicam as well. It is commonly prescribed in the EU and ANZ but has a black box warning in the US - mainly because is it misdosed in the US. There is a cat strength of 0.5mg/ml and a dog strength of 1.5 mg/ml. Many vets have used the dog strength on cats causing fatalities.

Here's some reading on it:

Metacam ! - Is it safe?

Meloxicam really changed Budge's quality of life. She was zooming around like a young girl again. I know others have had a similar experience with it. However, I think you want to try Adequan and joint supplements (glucosamine, chondroitin etc) first before looking at Meloxicam

Thank you, Bhooma! I am always impressed by everything you know. I will note all that and talk to my vet next week. Bella does better with Gabapentin but I would like something that treats her, not just a pain killer.
Yesterday she ran 3 "laps". She's galloping now, she tries to be faster than me and waits by her feeding place, smart Bella!
Did you notice any higher bloog dsugar with the glucosamine? I guess if it's Budge, you probably don't check her BG, though, but what about you, Carla @carlascalico ? I'm testing the tag too

There is still a lot I don't know, but I do know much more than I did before Bandit's diabetes diagnosis. LOL.

The glucosamine supplements I give Budge are high carb (38%), but she isn't diabetic so it's okay. And it's once a day supplement. I still would not recommend it for a diabetic. I do check Budge's sugar once or twice a year - and I need to wear full armour when I do that. She acts like a tiny prick is an attack on her life! There might be low carb variants of the joint supplements available in the US.

I had one (Morphine) I had to wrap in a towel and hold between my legs just to give her a pill or trim her nails. It felt like a full war to put her in a carrier. Bella is so easy, it’s a dream. My cat growing up would open her mouth and swallow medications when we called her, but she thought she was a dog.

We cannot even burrito Budge. You should see the way she flails her entire body when we try to pill her or do anything she doesn't want us to do!

Is that why she's called Budge?
I am thinking of increasing Bella's dose tomorrow morning, she went down in the low 60s but not since a few days. What do you think?
