This is just a quick hello Lantus Land! I haven't updated Bob's spreadsheet because life has been hell. Car was in the shop for the 3rd time in 2 months - if I haven't mentioned before, don't ever buy a Volkswagen if you want a reliable car. I've spent more in repairs in 2 1/2 years than the car is worth. And, of course, today is the corporate deadline for tax returns so it's going to be crazy. I will get caught up on my ss and condo visits this weekend!!!

Bob's numbers all of a sudden shot up into the 500's yesterday morning for no particular reason. He was over 500 at AMPS and PMPS and at 447 this morning. I could tell he didn't feel good and was swallowing hard a lot of the day. Not eating much. I thought he may be nauseated so gave him 1/4 of a Pepcid. He woke me up this morning doing the hairball thing - not hacking one up, but the other thing where they do that grunting for a few minutes, swallow hard and then go on their merry way. Then he was swallowing really hard and purring super loud and making weird noises like he was extremely distressed. Thought I was going to have to run with him to the emergency vet - scared the crap out of me. He did this a couple of months ago and it seems like he's got a hairball stuck in his throat or something. I gave him some coconut oil and that seemed to help. He did eat breakfast and seemed to feel better when I left for work. I haven't been giving him the coconut oil because it stresses him a little and I just got lazy! That won't happen again. I really hope it's as simple as a hairball and nothing else.

Other than that, he's been eating good and playful and sticking around the high 200's! Is it possible these really high numbers are from being uncomfortable?

I hope everyone has a really good day! Prayers to all sick and recovering kitties!

Are you testing for ketones? I would definately do that just in case?

I use a little vaseline on the paw (for them to lick off) for hairballs.

I ran out of the ketone strips and I have been unsuccessful at using the urine sticks. Bob usually handles the high numbers pretty well and it seems like he's getting down into the 200's at nadir. I'll keep an eye on him and get him to the vet for a test if I need to. I will be ordering those strips asap!

Hello you two

so sorry to read that BOTH of you are not doing your best......

I haven't been giving him the coconut oil because it stresses him a little

How do you give him the oil? I assume not a very fun way as he won't eat it on his own? :?:

Well, coconut oil has sure helped Tomcat out SO MUCH. rare are the hairballs...and even better yet...rare are the pukes!! poor dude was having a puke attack every 5 days or so before the oil..... when the initial appeal of the coconut oil waned for tomcat (you know he is a cat)....I started to mix it in with his 100% real meat meal once a day.****will bob eat a real 100% meat snack?

I also always keep some out on a dish for him for those times when he realizes he isn't going to get anything else....

again, super sorry you are both feeling yucky.......hope you are doing better SOON!

Hi Dara, thanks for taking the time to stop by and say hi today. Life sure does get in the way sometimes   Sorry about your car and hope Bob starts to feel better soon :YMHUG:

Hi Dara,
I'm sorry Bob wasn't feeling so well.
I hope it's just hairballs, and he'll be able to get them out with the help of coconut oil.
My cats didn't like coconut oil either. The firs time I tried, they just turned their nose away, and I haven't tried any further....
I'm glad Bob is eating and playful now.
