Hhhhmmm I guess I had my first fur shot, darn it. Saw some liquid on the surface. Bummed. He's starting to get a little fidgety so I was trying to be quick. :-Q

numbers?

Hi there

here is yesterday's link so that others (like me) can get caught up.
http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/view ... 86#p251786

Fur shots happen, just don't ever re-shoot.

Can you add your kitty's name, the date, AMPS and PMPS to your subject line? Just hit edit in your first post in this thread, and update your subject line.
Any other numbers today?
Since you don't have a spreadsheet yet, you will have to post your numbers everytime you post.
Hopefully you can get a spreadsheet going soon ok?

EDIT TO ADD: I got a little caught up and realize you are not home testing yet.
When will you be able to pick up a meter?
You received awesome advice yesterday, please consider picking up a meter sooner rather than later.

Re: fur shot

Hi Kim! Here is the link to your condo from yesterday: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=25046
We link the previous day's condo to the first post of the day so it's easy to click and see what happened the day before.

So, I am sorry about the fur shot. It happens every once in awhile...even to people who have been doing it for a long time. NEVER SHOOT ANOTHER SHOT if you THINK you had a fur shot. We never know if any insulin went in..or how much might have gone into the skin. So you did right by just doing nothing.

How is Mr Bibbles doing today? Any thoughts as to when you might give home testing a try?
Maybe you can refer to yesterday's condo to the link on how to set up your Spreadsheet...see how you do...

Hello Mr. Bibbles

He sure is a cutie pie.

Kimber, has anyone mentioned that 2 units does seem like a rather high starting dose? 1 unit twice a day is more typical.

Very glad you're going to be home testing.

Re: fur shot

Here's what I posted yesterday ...instructions for the SS:

Here is a link to a post in the Tech Support Forum to help you get your SS (spreadsheet) up and running.
We attach it to our signature here and then everyone can click and see the numbers we have gotten. The data is super important. I do hope you will be testing soon and have your SS up and running too!

Walmart has some good meters if you have a store near you....

It woulod be so much better for Mr. Bibbles if you tried the home testing. We recommend starting low and going slow with increases. There is a lot to learn in the beginning Kim...do you have any questions? Have you gotten to read the starred stickies at the top or this page?

Re: fur shot

Thank you everyone. I still have to figure out what AMPS and the other things are for the subject. I do have the wonderful kit from Lori, just working up the nerve to do it. He can be quite a handful, so far I'm very happy that I can even give him the shots. He's getting fidgety now that he's feeling better which is why I think we had the fur shot. Right now he's staring at me because I'm eating some corn and bacon chowder, I let him lick the bowl last night. I plan to read the spreadsheet link tonight, was too crazy at work to read it today. There's so much to read, I've been through most of the starred stickies. I have read that 2 units might be high, he's doing great though. We go in Monday for blood work. I think I have questions that I don't even know that I have at this point:)

Re: fur shot

That is great that you have that kit already! :thumbup
There are videos showing how to test...have you seen any of them
?
Do you have any low carb treats that he likes? boiled chicken maybe?
Treats are a good motivating tool. (chocolate for you too if that is your treatfor YOU of course!)

Getting the BGs (blood glucose numbers) is the next best thing you can do after changing to a low carb diet, and shooting insulin. I think that IF you are shooting insulin, getting those numbers is so important for safety's sake. It is not something that is exactly easy. There are ways to go about it....but once you get things organized, you will both adjust fine. What can I do to help??

Hi again!

I'm back with another link

if you haven't had a chance to see these, please take some time to look them over:
Home Testing Links

It's going to take some time to get the handle of it, but it does get easier.

You may want to invest in some low card kitty treats. Low Carb Kitty Treats Many of us use these yummy treats as a reward after testing.
You'll be surprised at how fast kitties learn to associtae ear pokes with kitty treats cat_pet_icon They really do help.

I will take a look at everything. I can't believe we're on day 3 of insulin, I never thought I'd be able to do it. Since I am a little concerned that he may be getting too much to start at 2 units I'm not too worried about missing one. He asked for water once tonight (which means I want to drink out of the faucet) and he used to run around me frantically whenever I got up to be put up by the water fountain (it's on a counter and he can't jump really high). He has a bowl of fresh water on the floor but of course he prefers the running water, especially the cold tap water from the sink.
