This morning we took Jupiter to the emergency oncall vet. The swelling was really really bad and it looked like dried blood was on the staples, so I thought it bled during the night. They checked him though and they did say he was very swollen but there was not blood. It was just more red and bruised so looked like blood to me.
He is still in pain but acting a little better then last night. I think the swelling is really bothering him. The on call vet does think he needs to be on some pain meds for about a week longer so we will call Jupes regular vet tomorrow morning and discuss.

This morning before I got a chance to start a new condo I posted this update in yesterdays condo:
this is update from this AM:
"We left food in the crate for him overnight and when I woke up this morning there was food EVERYWHERE! and he had spilled his water everywhere too. He was meowing... thats what woke me up... about 30 mins before I was going to wake up to give him his bupe –so took him out of the crate to see if he needed to use LB (he does have a LB in the crate with him but it only has the yesterdays news litter in it and the other LB has yesterdays news litter with his clay litter sprinkled on top so he will get the scent of his litter and know to go in that box)and he just tried to get out of the litter box. So I gave him some food and he did eat and I gave him some bupe and put him back in the crate (I had only been sleeping for about 2.5 hours) and I went back to bed. About an hour later he was meowing again and woke me up. I tried talking to him and telling him it was okay and to lay back down for some more rest but every time I closed my eyes he would meow again. So I took him out of the carrier.... and he acted hungry and ate a little more. 30 mins after that is when I called oncall vet and took him there.

He used the litter box yesterday and peed a whole whole whole bunch and hasnt used the litter box since then.

Every once in a while he will howl or yelp like hes in pain and he gets up and tries to adjust... like get in a more comfy position to lay. I think the swelling is really bothering him too.

Also wanted to say that Jupe did keep his cone on all night. He had his tuna ff appetizer all over the inside of his cone
but cone was still on and thats what counts.... so I had to get a warm washcloth and I washed him with the washcloth but not anywhere near the incision or anything. His fur all smelled like tuna this am at the oncall vet.... but now he smells okay again"

Re: 9/15 Jupiter

Hi Jamie,
I keep sending tons and tons of healing vines to Jupiter.
You are doing such a good job keeping him safe.
It's good he's eating, even if it's a small amount.
I am wondering, what did the vet say about the swelling?
Did he say it's best to leave it?
I know you were thinking about applying an ice pack yesterday.

Re: 9/15 Jupiter

Hi Jamie. You're doing a good job of nursing Jupiter. I would imagine that he'd be uncomfortable for awhile yet. It's good that he is eating and keeping his cone on. We have you and Jupe in our Prayers.

Have a great evening.

Re: 9/15 Jupiter

Hi Jaime,

Hugs to all there. I think you are doing a great job of caring for Jupiter. The first few days are always the worst, he's had major surgery, and I think it's normal for him to hurt as much as he sometimes does. One just needs to keep on top of the pain, ahead of the hurt. I think too if you are ever in doubt about what is going on with Jupiter, if things don't look right that the ER vet, or your regular vet, is the way to go, just to be sure, ease your mind. It is good that the vet there did not find a problem.

Very nice that he kept the cone on. YAY! They can be a bit messy when they eat, can't they. It's good though that he wanted to eat.

Keep on truckin' Jupiter. All of LL is routing for you!

Hugs to all there.

Re: 9/15 Jupiter

Continuing to send prayers for healing and comfort for Jupiter. Sending hugs and prayers to you Jamie. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 9/15 Jupiter

Jupiter wouldnt go to the litter box that we had out here but I thought he had to pee he was meowing and trying to walk to the back room where the litter boxes are
I tried helping him but he didnt want help and eventually he walked the whole way back there to the litter box
Dane tried to prop him up but he just yelped........he held himself up and went pee all by himself!

I didnt want him doing that much walking yet because I dont want him to hurt himself or the swelling to get worse.... but I had a feeling he had to pee and we tried everything.. we added the clay litter to his litter a whole bunch of it but he just wouldnt use it...

I am so glad he is learning though!!!!!!

Todays progress:
Jupe walked back to litter box (it was awkard and he fell a bit but I know he will learn and keep improving!)
He went pee all by himself and held himself up in the litter box enough that no litter got on him!!!

He will probably be very sore tonight from the walking and falling so as always, your positive thoughts, vines, and prayers are so so appreciated

Jupiter is a strong little guy! He had to prove to himself that he could get to the litterbox and pee without assistance. He may be sore from his excursion, but he will be happy to have done it. Cats are amazing creatures. So strong!

Jamie, you and Dane (and Jupe, of course) are doing so well. I hope that the swelling will begin to subside (that type of bruise can take a while, I'm sure, but it will improve every day). Wishing you all a restful night.

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

Yo Jupe, keep your cone on, man! We're counting on you.

~ Rusty

Another beautiful update for sweet Jupiter  !!! What a proud kitty, getting himself to the box by himself - they really are SO amazing...and so are you, Jamie and Dane!

Our prayers continued for steady progress and recovery!!

Fantastic job Jupiter! Walking all the way to your favorite litter box to pee.

Sending continued healing vines and comfort vines and feel better vines to Jupiter and Jamie and Dane.

not to bad, Jupe, not to bad!!! He's really trying to get back to normal. Yea, sounds like he's in some pain....of course he would be...I know I would be. I think more pain meds may be in order. I hope you are putting some miralax in his food or something...pain meds cause constipation.

Prayers for continued recovery!

Woo hoo! Way to go Jupe!

Please feel better and sending you pain free thoughts, comforts and snuggles tonight.

Jamie - been thinking about you guys and a month from now, I am waiting for you to tell us how he is running through the house, jumping onto furniture, using his LB and being Jupe! I keep picturing this and am waiting for you to send the word and real photos of him doing all this....

Woo hoo, when a kitty has to pee, a kitty has to pee. That must have been such sweet relief to get on his own to his fav LB! Go Jupe Go!

Go, Jupiter!! I am so amazed - he is one determined kitty. :-D :-D You and Dane are doing such a good job! Less pain and healing vines for Jupe~

Can't wait to read tomorrows update!

Jane

Re: 9/15 Jupiter - progress update & coupons

thank you all so much!

I just spoke with Jupe's vet regarding the oncall vets recommendations about pain meds and antibiotics.

He would like to keep giving Jupiter the Bupe for 3 more days. (we are not going to pick any up since we have plenty here that Carla sent us and a little tiny bit left from what RG&Mali sent - thank you both!)

He is calling the oncall vet to get the report faxed to him to make sure they didnt see any indications of an infection. If there were any indications he will extend AB's. Otherwise he will not.

He said once Jupiter starts eating better he should have a bowel movement so dont worry about that for a few more days.

Re: 9/15 Jupiter - progress update & talked to vet re: pain

What was the outcome on icing? Are you icing?

Is his hair starting to grow out yet?

Keep those updates coming!

thanks

Re: 9/15 Jupiter - progress update & talked to vet re: pain

Hi Jamie. Hope Jupiter is eating better and beginning to get some of his balance back. Fingers crossed that there isn't any signs of an infection in the ER report. Watching for the update.

Have a great day Jamie.

Re: 9/15 Jupiter - progress update & talked to vet re: pain

Hi Jamie - I'm so glad Jupiter is making so much good progress. And you are a VERY good mom and taking great care of him. Still sending prayers your way! have a good day!

Re: 9/15 Jupiter - progress update & talked to vet re: pain

Its been more then 24 hours and Jupiter hasnt eaten anything. He ate a single treat today (its a high carb dry food temptations treat- but only thing I could get him to eat and I tried to give him another 1 and he wouldnt eat it)

Starting to worry.

Re: 9/15 Jupiter - progress update & talked to vet re: pain

C'mon Jupe! Eats some fuds so you can continue to be strong and your mamabean doesn't have to worry. Just a lil, please?

Re: 9/15 Jupiter - progress update & talked to vet re: pain

Way to go, Jupie :!: Keep on keepin' on to the LB...when a guy's gotta whiz, he's gotta whiz... You are doing an amazing job, Jamie.
Hope all continues to go well and Jupe gets that appy back.

Robert
