Well the birding spot was a bust. A long path (because we missed the short one lol) saw a blue heron and that's about it. Totally disappointing.

I hesitated to increase Boomer today. On Sunday I have a photo session out of town and will be gone from about +5 to about + 9. DH wants to come with me, there is a golf course nearby which he wants to go to. So he and I discussed the increase this morning as I don't want him to start working it on Sunday. But if Boomer does decide to work it on Sunday then DH will stay home.

Allen's blood work (except for the ionized calcium) results are in. Kidney values are about the same; Dr Larry indicates that Allen is in stage 2 CKD. Regular calcium is good. But his BG.....well a few months ago it was 62 (we tested at home as well). On Wednesday it was 51 and just for the heck of it I tested last night and it was 29. I almost had a heart attack. Gave him some syrup. It was just before t/f/s so gave him 10% ff. And sent Dr Larry a message. He answered quite a bit later which I got this morning and said that we don't need to "manage" his low BG, that his body is used to it but that we need to find the cause.

So....firstly I'm strongly suspecting a pancreatic tumour because that would account for the low BG and the hypercalcemia. But the ultrasound he had several months ago showed nothing. Secondly.....is he correct that I don't have to try to raise Allen's BG? This doesn't sound right to me; I know hypoglycaemia can occur that is not related to diabetes/insulin. Back several months ago right before we initially took Allen in to see Dr Larry I had noticed him head-shaking. Now I suspect that it was because of low BG.

Does anyone have any experience with non diabetes related low BG?

My civies run from 40-70ish - I agree with the vet, no you don't need to manage it but finding the cause would be good. HUGS and hugs - may you find the perfect picture waiting just outside your door!

Did you retest the 29 on Allen? Just wondering if it was a wonky test. FWIW, my civie Theo went from perfect pancreas on U/S to a mass on it twice the size of the pancreas in a little over three months. :( But his b/w was also not pretty. You might want a redo on the ultrasound. I hope it's just a wonky test or something else.:bighug:

Boomer does seem to like to work the fifth cycle after an increase. Interesting to see if the pattern holds.

No I didn't retest; it seemed to fall in line with what the b/w at Dr Larry's showed.
