Yesterday

I really appreciate all the support yesterday when Bell had her anal gland rupture. I am in a better place than I was yesterday.

I can hardly see the wound unless I point a flashlight at her butt, and it is already scabbing up. Looks great. I woke up at 4 am to her having not eaten anything all night (unusual for her). Tried to get her to eat anything and she refused. I tried ondansetron for the first time, and 45 min later she was eating without any prompting from me. So thank you all for the tip on that. I "borrowed" some from my sister who uses it for their migraines, so I will ask for a prescription from the vet.

Bell's numbers are fantastic today. Just hanging out in the low greens. Hoping that she doesn't dip low enough to trigger a bounce and can just keep coasting on green waves.

How much ondansetron did you give? Dose is 0.5-1.0 mg/kg of cat, every 6-8 hours, for the pill version. I find it's an important part of the kitty med cupboard.

I hope the fact that she ate will help her get over any nausea. Poor kitty had a rough day yesterday.

I gave her 1 mg (she’s 10 lb now). I actually referred to a post of yours many years ago to determine dosing :).

I think the not eating part was she needed to poop. Shortly after she ate, she went the bathroom and has been eating great since. I’m sure it is painful with the rupture.

Oh really? At one time? I will keep that in mind for next time. What is the risk of dosing too much?
